Oh my god weight limits are like the worst thing in gaming. At least where they usually seem to tune the weight limits are. It's the worst thing when you find some cool stuff and have to frantically sit there throwing shit out of your inventory to barely scrape by the limit.

Really wish I was on the PC and could just fucking up the limit.

yellow = low charisma
orange = medium charisma
red = high charisma

It's not in relation to your current stats, no. If your charisma stat gets high enough that you clear a red option you'll clear every red option ever presented to you with said stat level should you choose it.

that's god damn right.

goddamn, a bunch of raiders tricked me into following them into a house thinking there was a dying person I needed to help inside.

They then proceeded to destroy me

LMAO. I saw that same thing. Once I saw the way that person looked and saw the person leading me there. I knew exactly what was going on. I was like yup, this is a fucking trap. Soons I got in there, my Gatling gun make them fools into ash. In the basement you see a whole bunch of naked bodies, meaning that trick worked on many people and they all died.

What's interesting is if that you sneak in, you can hear the raiders whispering about how they're wondering about where you are, and getting more and more frustrated, until they come out looking for you.

Haha, just found a terminal in a police station or something that held a prisoner called Opie Hurst. He had 1 leather vest, 1 wool knit cap and motorcycle keys.

Omg. I found an explosive combat shotgun. Suddenly Le Fusil seems like a piece of junk.

I'm tearing apart power armor wearing knights with one shot. It must add the bonus damage to each pellet.

It was one of my first legendaries drop.
Makes the game a bit easy, even though I have to hoard shotgun shells like crazy. Also, beware not to blow yourself up in close combat ;-)

My Dumb Luck melee build is doing ridiculous amounts of damage right now with Better Criticals, Big Leagues, and Lone Wanderer still needing to be maxed out. Kinda wish I hadn't wasted a couple of points on Riflemen, though, since non heavy guns have pretty much been made obsolete by Blitz.

On a related note some of these sword finishers are absolutely brutal. Christ.

end game quest and companion spoilers!

question about the
Battle of Bunker hill quest. I warned the Railroad about it, and Dez says ill have to kill the Coarser with me along with everyone else. But isnt the coarser that goes with you on Father missions the one you can recruit as a companion. I take it if I warn Railroad about it I cant recruit him?

but if I dont warn them, wont they be pissed? argh

It's percentage based or something like that you have a chance for any but they require greater CH to increase likelihood of success. Yellow is likely with low CH, Orange is less likely or middle CH and Red is unlikely or high CH. So you can reload and keep trying and might luck out, but not likely. I personally have a set of CH boosting cloths. Glasses, Hat and dress that give me +4 CH to bring me to 10 and I generally pass every one first try.

Same here. I have Char 10 with clothing and I have something like a 90% success rate. It works out because I just stay in the clothing and run around in power armor otherwise. Only get in trouble when a conversation turns violent.

I did run into a random encounter though and even with my 10 CHA I had a red speech option. Not even sure how to clear that, must have to wear clothes AND max out CHA.

I've seen and passed red speech options. I'm not sure that the color they're displayed actually has anything to do with your stats, it might just be like "this is a hard charisma check"

Colors don't change based on your CH. So they'll always be Yellow, Orange or Red. They're an indication of where your CH should be, not where it is.

Personally I'm going with gunslinger and commando, so I get to use Pistols and Automatic weapons. I'm really liking it so far.

Ammo for auto isn't really an issue seeing as I can buy 300+ ammo for my SMG (with exploding bullets) from vendors whenever I see it. Caps aren't exactly scarce once you build a couple industrial strength water purifiers....

Rifleman is cool and works very well with sniping. 3 points in Rifleman, ninja, couple stealth points and .50 cal legendary sniper rifle (suppressed is great with it) that does double damage to enemies with full health bars means that I can one shot guys in power armor. Same with turrets or most robots. Decent stealth with right armor means that they won't even be able to track you with suppressed shots. Also if you go down Agi line and you bank crits then you can't miss even with VATS at 0 (great against targets behind cover).

Laser rifles are better at medium distances I find and you get a really good one if you help BoS before chapter 2. Upgrade it and with the right perks it's pretty awesome.

Pistol vs Commando just depends on your preferences. A lot of times pistols are better for outside VATS firing before you get higher order gun/science perks. Then again a .45 machine gun with a 100 bullet drum mag and 25 aoe damage on every bullet does wonders as well.

In short, I love rifleman and the rest on preference. That said, more important perks are gun nut, science and scrapper. You get higher damage return due to mods as they work on all guns (well science has to be high for laser/plasma). IMO, gun nut to at least 3, scrapper at 2 are a must.

So, I just played around with an easy to reload red speech check. It worked after about 15 attempts. It's 100% luck, the color coding seemingly just shows how likely you are the pass the check. It's seemingly possible to pass any check without any charisma if you just brute force it. What an awkward change...

It's a random dice roll like mechanic like most RPGs, you just aren't given a target number for success.

In the past recent fallouts, you had a target number you had to have met or passed to succeed, simple as that. If you were one number away in the skill check, you auto failed without chance. New system puts back random element like pen and paper RPG's.

in my continued struggled to juggle every faction before the inevitable final choice, I just realised that after you have been to
The Institute and done your little covert stuff there by joining them
, you can go back to the Prydwin and get 2 new quests from the BoS boss guy. these are not the repeatable ones, its 2 proper quests. for those that like me are trying to do as much as possible

also amazing little detail. When you have him with you, verytime you fast travel, Deacon will be wearing a different outfit.

Running the game in borderless windowed mode and I can't access the Steam overlay or take screenshots via my controller. Weird.

For any others who are playing wacky luck builds or just otherwise want to become rich through legit means in-game, I suggest prioritizing the ranks of Scounger over Fortune Finder. As nice as it is to find a cache of caps, the ammo situation means you really have to manage rounds/shells/cells for your preferred weapon types so getting those will benefit you directly, while the ammo you don't need is as good as caps the next time you swing by Diamond City. No type of ammo sells for less than one bullet = one cap and fusion cells are 2 for 1.

Having several points in Mr. Sandman and Ninja has provided some crazy bonuses to my sneak attacks. Getting like 4.1x on silenced guns and 3.6 or so on energy weapons. I wish that Mr. Sandman applied to Energy weapons as they are technically silent, but alas they do not.

But I can complain too much as I just found a Legendary Plasma rifle that does an addition 50 Radiation damage. So maxed out it does like almost 200 dmg. Then I go into VATs, in sneak mode, with Gun-fu and it's just one crazy shooting gallery of exploding people.

Is anyone else collecting unique clothes and guns even if you don't plan on using them just so you can have a collection of all of the unique stuff?
I play this game weird.

Nah, I do the same thing. It makes sense that the clothes have stats and whatnot, I don't think it's a bad system, but at the same time I wish you had more freedom to look the way you want without totally tanking your stats.

Yeah, but in a game with frequent quicksave scumming, you can (and should) just brute force everything. They're hiding too many of the systems that were previously shown, and I'm not a fan. The systems are still there, you just have to do trial and error to actually figure out how they work. It's a braindead way of "simplifying" the mechanics.

I'm assuming this game doesn't do the low INT thing where you talk like a caveman if you have 1 INT?

Also, do companions ever leave you if they hate you enough? Codsworth is a god damned boyscout.

Does the Minute men missions ever end? I'm guessing they are repeatable quests. I got a warning that one of them was gonna expire soon. Expiring repeatable quests that you get on the regular is kind of annoying. It's not like this is an MMO.

they repeat forever. I spent several hours doing them till they started repeating. Really annoying that they stay on your quest list forever

The way speech checks are handled in FO4 is just about the worst. I quick save before every one as it's so easy to cheese. It's pretty bad.

I'm of the opinion that in perfect world there would be hard checks, pass/fail, and all knowledge of unique dialogue would be kept hidden from the player. Every option would look the same. Chance based is horrible in every way as you never have any incentive or reason to accept failure. And just having special dialogue spoils the experience as it is almost always the better option making the others pointless. Not explicitely knowing that it's a special option would great.

I really liked that Pillars of Eternity allowed you to hide dialogue options you didn't pass and hide the requirement info as well so you couldn't tell which were normal responses and which were skill based. I wish it was on by default because the can miss anything need in me made it hard to turn that info off. Also I loved that those special dialogue options weren't often the best choice, so even if you kept the notifiers on just picking the skill check dialogue option could often backfire on you.

I guess unless it's one of those unlock new settlement missions, I won't turn them in.

I'm annoyed how they keep getting kidnapped. There's like 5 machine gun turrets. How do people keep getting in.

The Bloody Mess perk has been a huge disappointment. I barely ever get any dismemberment with it. It was hilarious in Fallout 3 and New Vegas watching bodies explode,

Btw, is there any basic upgradeable armor better than metal and/or combat. So far all I have come across is leather, raider, metal and combat and I was just curious if there was a set that was better than this and where a vendor might be that sells it. I've been dying to get out of this ugly ass armor.

Thanks.

At some point you stop receiving Radient Quests to unlock new Settlements and just get random go help X Settlement with X Issue Radient Quests.

The Radient Quests you received in person can be ignore BUT the Radient Quests that randomly pops up in your Miscellaneous Quests Tab that says to go help of a Settlement under a Raid Attack are set on a timer and they can fail which leads to damage property (Food/Water/Gear),less happiness and it it repeats too much Settlements that are owned by NPC who joined the Minuteman may actually leave your control (I can't confirm this thou since I haven't allowed that to happen to me).

I've found one piece of
Synth
armor. Though the stats/upgrades seemed about even or worse than combat armor. Only seen one leg though

I don't mind defending against raider attacks but constantly having to clear out areas of ghouls, raiders or super mutants is getting boring.

I also like how they always go "THERE'S A GANG OF RAIDERS GIVING US TROUBLE AROUND THE CORNER." And they're always like on the other side of the map.

thats it, im calling it on companions. I got my Nick, Cait and Curie quests, I cba walking around with Danse (and I assume ill lose him soon anyway whe I dont go BoS in the final choice) or Deacon, Hancock didnt have a quest (he idolizes me, only got the perk), aparently Piper is the same, so yeah, fuck it.

Back to trusted Dogmeat, and lIll start putting points in lone wanderer. if they fix it (assuming its a bug), I guess ill either have those points wasted, or Ill console command those points out and put them somewhere else I guess

Deathclaw Gauntlet plus Ninja plus Blitz is so incredibly satisfying...no words. I'm zipping around like a stealth version of a Diablo III monk. Teleporting to Super Mutant, to Super Mutant one shotting the bunch save for a Legendary...and I still cut his health bar in half with two consecutive stealth strikes.

Damn.

The hardest part of this game is getting companions to idolize you. I spent 30 min straight crafting last night and it kept popping up that Codsworth loved it. .....but nope nothing.

After turning them in you can actually run away from Preston so he stops giving you any more because your not within the ear shot of him to finish hearing the dialogue to give you more Radiant Quests but if you ever want to talk to him again for any reason he will give you the Radient Quests before you move on to your business and if he passes by you he will give you more of them so move him out of your home base Settlement.

I just did the "
Dig quests. Did you guys betray Bobbi or not? I'm undecided on it. I sided with her and Hancock sent me to kill her afterward. So i reloaded back to the store room.

Piper idolized me after like 3 hours of travelling together, just doing my normal thing.
then I jacked my charisma up to 10 before the romance option came up to avoid getting friendzoned
