Xenoblade X Eurogamer Preview: Maybe 2015's Most Impressive Open World

Lol. I was so excited but my excitement will lead to my doom

I'm really worried about all this MMO talk since that's not at all what I want. I just want an engaging story, beautiful environments to explore and great charachters. I don't want to grind or do lots of filler quests

Did you not play Xenoblade for Wii? Its like that, and most of those quests you don't even have to do. I wouldn't worry about that.

6 days left until neon genesis evangelion happens and everything becomes orange juice.

I haven't even thought about what to name my character. I'm going with a girl so Malus doesn't seem quite right.

LINKLE

I'm naming mine Cross cuz I'm boring as fuck.

Guess this thread's hype got me or something, cause I just got a Wii U for some reason

Does the game have any HDD space requirements if I get the retail disc version? The console's the 8GB basic one, soo..

e: nvm, got a sata-usb thingamajig and an extra 256gb ssd, if this works I'm probably set
The only thing you'll need if you get a physical copy is that you should probably go and download the 10GB data pack off the eshop.

I can confirm this *Look at the collector edition I just bought an hour ago*

I'm stuck on a different planet now

Thanks! So a 16gb usb stick would be enough if the SSD won't work for some reason.

If it does, though, I might as well get the digital version. How's Nintendo with digital pre-order stuff, do they usually unlock around midnight or what?

FNAC (french store) is already selling it. -_- Dual cover btw.

The game is apparently Multi 5 (Europe).

Before going digital, though, it looks like I gotta go check out the shops early next week to see if someone's already selling it

Strange that amazon.fr is all sold out on the special and regular edition, are the French that hyped about the game?

They should be!

France has quite an affinity for Japanese culture in general. They are very big into JRPGs and anime (well at least Dragon Ball from what I know).

Wait, I just realized there is still no data packs for EU.

What are they doing at NOE, did they forget to push the button to make them available ?

Customer services have been saying they'll be up on Monday. Of course no word about preload (which NOE have not bothered with since SSB, when games like Mario Maker are pretty tiny I can see why it might not be worth it but it is dumb thinking as preloading it worth it for them as much it is for us moreso when you're looking 20GB).

Personally the reason the US datapacks were so early is their review copies are discs while NOE sent downloads.

That clearly isn't their main complaint. And poor pacing is a legitimate thing to criticize a game for.

I'd not call "poor pacing" that the first 5 hours of a +100 hours game are a bit slow (because they need to explain to yo the setting and some of the systems in the game).

From what I saw yes.

Hmm? Even generic quests? In the original you had to return to the quest giver if there was some kind of dialogue or story. Otherwise it'd autocomplete.

The gather X number of random collectibles one I think you gotta go to where you pick up these quests to turn them in.

Oh I think you're talking about the quest board thing. Also, basic and "story" quests can both involve collecting x number of things.

In the giantbomb quicklook I think Austin said some of his quests autocompleted when he already had the items required and that he loved that. I could be wrong, I may have to watch it again.

I did but I never finished it as the story just didn't hold me and I got burned out on all the quests

You could've just not do all of them ;) But yeah if the story didn't grab you (depending how far you went) then you gave it a fair shot. Personally I think it's my favorite jRPG.

That's not too bad then. Can you abandon a Skell if you're flying or do have you to be at ground level?

Also, does anyone know what happens when you're in a 32 player squad mission and you go into a story chapter where you might be locked into a certain area?
Pressing the dis/embark button does nothing unless you're on the ground, so you can't be flying around.

Once you open up the squads functionality you're always in one, unless your connection drops. Nothing in particular happens if you start a story/affinity quest while connected, aside from people being able to see your progress as the achievement things pop up. I'm not sure if you can join any online quests while in them though, since the game gets pretty weird about letting you change your party. And the one or two story quests that actually do lock you into an area most likely wouldn't let you access the barracks or anything to even try to join online quests, but you should still be able to participate in the missions that need you to kill certain things(the icons that show up on the bottom right, that unlock the online quests).

Outside of one or two special cases(or ones that specifically want you to talk to someone), simple quests(from the board) will finish as soon as the number of things are killed/collected/whatever'd, so if you have enough of an item already it'll finish as soon as you leave the board once it's accepted. Most of the other quests that need you to kill/collect/whatever things will still need you to go back and talk to at least one person.

I was trying not to get too much hype for this game (even if I watched every survival videos lol) but the Mining your own business video just raised my hype trough the roof ....

Damn it, it's gonna be a long week -_-

I'm such a completionist that side quests can be a curse for me. It's my own fault. I'll really need to figure that out before this game, I'm a bit scared that main plot points are tied up to the side quests though
