Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

NX releases next year. Stuff will hit the bins eventually.

I love this because really if anyone tried to pick Twilight Princess GC or something like Xenoblade after WiiU's release you would know that some stuffs never even try to see the bin.

The music that I've heard so far from the game sounds awesome. It really is akin to marmite, you love it or hate it however there's a lot of traditional music that you'd usually find in a game like this too, so it's not all exotic but being stuck on a whole different planet, that fits with the theme.

Sawano can be formulaic with his tracks: "song starts slowly... it's still slow...gets a little emotional NOW IT'S LOUUUD HOLY SHIIIT I'M SO EPIC! END."
Or: "song is just slow and boring but there's this strange instrument/tune and it's catchy, damn it".

Is it quick and easy to do? like the press of a button, or menu only stuff?
i'd like to flick it off for screenshots

It's in a menu, you can select which elements are shown. I don't have the game, it's all second hand info so I can't check in detail. Most of it fades out when you're not in battle anyway, just like in Xenoblade.

Sawano has been extremely lazy the past few years. He needs to take a break and mix up his output.

Hey blumenkranz is great

Oh well. High prices will only make my decision of buying it harder.

I'm kind of glad the vision system is gone. In Xenoblade, it felt like for most of the game they designed enemies around giving them these super powerful attacks that felt like they were there for the sake of the vision system to have a use. In the late game it felt like it popped up too much, often when it didn't really need to and just slowed everything down.

The scores and reviews all look great. I'll probably pick up the game next year though since I have a lot of backlog games to finish out.

Most people don't care about the actual lyrics to songs just that if it sounds good, and it sounds good to you, than you like the song, it's really as simple as that

My analysis piece is almost finished for the game! It has its fair share of compromises but, man, Monolith Soft put that Wii U hardware to work. What an amazing looking game overall.

This should be one interesting read. This game seems to be like the antithesis of modern AAA releases, it's polished, optimized for performance while still managing to look impressive and bugs-free.

Man, the wait is going to be painful! I am glad is getting review so well :) Thankfully my wife gave me some early game presents to keep me busy till then! So need to download the packages when I get home today!

Yes, thank God for Just Cause 3 which I will play for years, so it's cool.

If you can understand French, my review is up (4/5)

+ Beautifully crafted world
+ LOTS of content
+ Music (except vocalized songs)
+ Rewarding if you invest time in it
+ Combat is fun and allows for various tactics
- Bad quests for the most part (fetch quests, kill this, retrieve that)
- Not as engaging as Xenoblade on the Wii (storywise)
- No sense of danger (only consequence of dying is paying your Skell repairs)

This thread probably isn't the place to have this discussion again, but you've said this before and I vehemently disagree.

Perhaps you can argue that lyrics to popular music have just gotten increasingly shitty over the past decades, something Sawano has all too happily joined in on, but I don't think you can argue that's a reflection of general human preferences. People care about songs that have stories that speak to them.
Unicorn is Sawano at his best for me, part of me wishes he just copied that entire ost for XCX.
Ugh truth. So good.

"Ran out of time to grind for the finale" oh god please no. Throwing a late game grind as a final barrier is absolutely terrible game design.

I don't think that's just a late game thing lol.

Kinda glossed over this bit from Nintendo news: "Gone are the days of treasure chests falling down mountains; battle spoils are now presented to the player as soon as the fight ends."

Probably not news to you guys who've been watching footage, but I hadn't considered this. I gotta admit it was pretty funny watching LPers drop their chests off cliffs in Xeno Wii.

Visions were good for items and knowing if they'll be of future use. RIP

If it's anything like the original Xenoblade, grinding will be pretty unnecessary if you've been doing sidequests throughout and exploring, rather than heading straight through the story as fast as possible

I dunno, I could play some platinum games forever. The more actiony it is, the more I can get out of it. Menu based, though? Yeah, it gets old.

Arthur Gies. He's the only exception I make for "you shouldn't criticize individual reviewers for their opinions."
I mean those games they make are 'short' and the combat is built to encourage replayability to get a higher score for a stage. Their action is made to be a spectacle and over the top. Not many developers with that kind of mindset.

Like Lunar said, I don't think thats totally true. A truly great combat system (especially action-based) doesn't get old like that.
I don't know about that. Unless a game can constantly keep throwing new things for you to fight that will change the way you play, I'll get bored no matter how tight and well done the controls are for the combat. And after 70 hours, I would say you've seen most of what most games have to offer. I'll keep playing because of the story, the game world, and uncovering other secrets. Which is what happens to me with the Souls games. Unless I change my character build, the combat becomes more of a 'going through the motions' kind of thing.

You can freely move Saves or Updates between internal and External DD.
Are you sure? I have to move or copy everything to do with a game (i.e. saves AND updates) making backing up saves to the internal (if internal breaks all external is useless anyway) a tedious and slow copy and delete non save parts cycle (it takes several minutes for Splatoon so will take half an hour or so for Xenoblade). If there is some way to copy only a save I'm all ears.
