The only time Krillin could compete with Goku was when Goku needed a new pair of shoes and beat him in a race.
This prompted me to rewatch the episodes where Goku and Krillin first meet, and I noticed a funny thing re: all the "keep your guard up or some chump with a laser will shoot you" from RoF. When Goku first shows up to receive training from Roshi, he gets sent out to find the old perv a date. He has no idea what's going on but eventually brings back a mermaid, who smacks Roshi and runs off when he busts out his lines. Then Goku says "I get it! The lesson is to keep your guard up!" This is in the English dub, but I'm really hoping the original line is the same and that we've come full circle.

Why does everyone believe Buu will be inn? No way he passes a written test.

Huh? I wonder why I keep seeing this
Buu isn't stupid. He never was. Fat Buu wasn't. Super Buu wasn't, etc

That was the entire point of fat buus character. That he wasn't dumb.
Remember how Babidi died?

Then how Super Buu tricked gotenks, gohan, etc?

Then Gotenks Buu tricked to absorb Gohan?

...Now that I think about it, The only dumb buu was Gohan Buu. Go figure... >_>

edit:
I took the "written test" thing to mean no monsters who can't speak or think...or read. But who knows

Wouldn't a time traveler count as a being from another universe? I'm wondering about that.

Future Trunks's universe being universe 6 would be awesome, but I have no idea where any other saiyans would come from. Probably some floating around space somewhere ala Tarble or a dude who similarly just didn't follow his "kill all life" directive like goku did.

lol, what's with the future Tunks love in the past few pages?

He had the best introduction of all time, and then proceeded to:

- whine
- be scared of everything
- get beat up by everyone
- daddy issues
- whine
- really lame time chamber issues. While 10 year old gohan was completely fine in there. Like...really?
- think he was clever when he fought cell, while vegeta and goku instantly figured out it was dumb to be that big. Trunks v Cell was a horrible fight too...
- then ask Cell to kill him. Huh? Don't you have to save your mom in the future, dumbo?

- whine some more
- die
- get worked by Cell Jrs while piccolo did work. (though the manga didn't have anyone fighting well against them...)
- whine.

Shooting vegeta that once was the only other cool thing he did.
Beating Cell and the adroids in the future was meh. At that level, it's like celebrating goku beating yakkon...

Damn right. After his introduction he ceases to be interesting.

At the very least Future Trunks doesn't play around with his enemies if they're a threat, he just kills them whether they can get stronger or not.

Which is more than you can say for Goku and Vegeta.....

Because the Trunks we have now is worse.
No arguments there. lol

And the fact that gotenks is a joke character, (especially since they made him really "strong" at the time) makes me almost skip his newer scenes.

Wow, he's hercule. But hercule has an excuse.

But I think I was referring more to the "who's your favorite character" dicussion some pages back.

Damn right. After his introduction he ceases to be interesting.

yup. I was blinded too when I was young. He was probably my favorite character by far when I was around 10-12 I think. Then you see the episodes again and remember just how much he complains, gets scared, and does...nothing.

I'll give him that. He would've killed Semi-Perfect Cell if he fought. And would've killed the androids if he wasn't so weak.
oh well, woulda coulda. Tien and a couple others probably wouldn't screw around too. So rule #1, don't be weak.

You can't blame him though he is Vegeta's son.

Yet he still has a better track record of killing main villains and he doesn't even appear anymore.

It's better than young trunks, who

-is vegeta levels of cocky but more annoying and not as strong
-thinks every fight is a game and thus gets shut down/beat up bad when things get serious
-doesn't have any value/compassion of people dying or getting injured and just says 'this sucks'
-lacks techniques except for about 2 skills
-goes super saiyan at the slightest hint of a struggle instead of testing his opponent and using it as a trump card
-plays around with his opponent while in super saiyan form instead of trying to quickly finish them off like future trunks
-grows up to be the shorts/neckerchief wearing scholar in GT(It's like a worse version of Gohan from Super)

I don't blame Future Trunks for having a worse time/PTSD from that time chamber considering his father didn't give a damn about him and was going crazy in it trying hard to catch up to Goku. I also don't blame him for not being the best fighter considering he had to come up with a lot of techniques and skills on his own after Gohan was killed. If anything, Future Trunks was better off not being raised by a man who covers his weakness up with cockiness while living in another man's shadow all the time.

trunks did plenty of showing off and teasing his opponents when he fought freeza and cold

In the manga it's a lot quicker he basically sneaks attacks Freeza and kills him before he even powers up.

The anime added filler with the Death Ball and made it look like Freeza tried multiple times to kill him when he really only tried once in the manga.

Who likes kid trunks?
He's just..."there".

It was funny when he killed piccolo though.

Yeah, there was a lot of that.
Some good, like SSJ2 Goku vs Kid Buu imo.
Some bad, some of the stuff early in Cell v Goku dragged.

That's exactly why people show love for future trunks. He had character, an intriguing past, and a good arc. His story went out on a good note and he didn't disappoint his fans like Gohan is disappointing his constantly, in Super. Kid trunks will most likely never have that, and if you are the type to count GT then it makes Kid trunks look even worse. Goten is even more irrelevant than that.

He was interesting to me because he gave the big story explanation when he first came. Him as a character is like whatever. Then again everyone sucked during the Android/Cell stuff.

By the way...what the fuck is Mr Popo?! An alien?

He is darkness itself. He'd be God if he wanted to but can't be bothered.

Krillin's plenty relevant. He's just not good at fighting.

Krillin aught to be the Bilbo of the group.

Future Trunks is okay in Another Road...

Yeah, he had a good ending.
I don't even care enough about the kids to speak about them. Which is sad considering I thought gotenks was cool when it first happens. And GT? oh boy...

I mean, I don't like future trunks....
but with all the randomness of Toriyama, I'd be all for bringing him back now. Can't be worse than Gohan, weak piccolo, strong-but-not-strong-for-some-reason Gotenks (who won't go ssj3), Buu who is suddenly krillin level, etc.

Trunks coming back could be cool if they made it compelling.

Future Trunks is okay in Another Road...

The second PSP game?
It has my favorite dbz fighting of every game...but man that story mode is garbage. I stopped reading all the text at a point.

Yeah I made a whole thread about this

Me said:
We all have the experience of thinking a certain character is great when they're introduced. Maybe they have one episode where they're the highlight, but then they stick around for the rest of the show without ever doing anything important again. Maybe they're falsely hyped up to be integral to the plot of the show and then subsequently drop off the face of the earth, or end up never doing anything substantial. Maybe they do participate in the plot, but not in the way that you thought or wanted them to.

My choice is Future Trunks from Dragon Ball Z.

His arrival on the scene is one of the most captivating moments in the entire series. He comes out of nowhere and decides to face down Frieza, the most powerful enemy we've seen up until that point, and not only wins, but takes him - and his father, for that matter - down effortlessly, and with style. Not only that, but this purple haired badass can go Super Saiyan, something that very recently we've only seen Goku, the hero, able to accomplish, and only through immense turmoil. Also, he has a sword. Nobody else has used a sword in the Z portion of the series up until this point. (Gohan had one as a kid but come on)

His intrigue doesn't end with his stylish appearance. He's introduced as Vegeta's son (!) from the future (!!) and his mother is Bulma (!!!) His future is a post apocalyptic wasteland, and he and Gohan were the only survivors, fighting against not one, but two threats far greater than Frieza ever was. He's come back in time to set things right, and he's going to fight alongside the heroes we know to help fix the future that went wrong.

Except he doesn't ever really do anything again, really. From the moment he comes back in the Android arc to the moment the Cell arc is over, the only thing of note he does is A) Allow Cell to enter their timeline inadvertently and B) Fight Cell and lose, making a fool of himself in the process. He gets a cool design overhaul with Saiyan armor like his father and a ponytail, but it doesn't do him any good and makes his hair look ridiculous when he goes Super Saiyan.

This mysterious warrior from the future that was able to kill Frieza so easily is shoved to the side for the rest of the series. He does get one more moment of glory in his own timeline when he kills the Androids, but for all intents and purposes he did almost nothing to help the Z Fighters actually fight the Androids beyond giving them the heads up that they exist. Dragon Ball is notorious for sidelining its characters, but you'd think someone like Trunks would fare better than he did. His present timeline counterpart - the much less appealing Kid Trunks - does far more than he ever did.

Because the Trunks we have now is worse.
He can become better.

Trunks is the greeniest Super Saiyan. He's a complete amateur. Even Vegeta noticed the benefits of making SSJ a natural state right off the bat, but Trunks didn't.

He does have a right mindset in comparison to everybody else in terms of morality and sense of justice.

I really hope
the fifth warrior is a dead person from Universe 7 heaven. It would bring something new to the table if he's from years or centuries ago. And there would be higher stakes because if he dies, he disappears forever.

This is what makes him compelling. He's a true hero in a cast of battle maniacs. Gohan is the only other one like him, but Trunks is a little more gung ho than Gohan.

Being the son of Vegeta and Bulma of all people is still shocking. His contrast to both of his parents in terms of politeness and values is also a huge part of his character's appeal. On that same note, the inverse personality of Present Trunks could be made interesting purely as a point of contrast to Future Trunks.

I hate future trunks because his arrival was the point where db's story became completely unsalvageable with the time travel garbage. And he has a stupid haircut.

5th guy is gonna be Freeza.

Beers just resurrects him again. Turns out that they fought back when Beers was not that powerful.

Would explain Beers' strange obsession with an overly aggressive space realtor.
