Not the biggest fan honestly but i'm confident that Serkis will inject it with a certain menacing quality that will contrast quite nicely with the frail look of him.

Honestly kind of feels like a retread of palps though... old, tired looking, white guy. Was honestly kind of hyped for something a little more alien.

Glad that people like it and it's not heavy handed "look how eeeeevil he is!" there is definitely a sadness to the character. And that description underneath it is on point in that - if you cut the left side of his face away and just look at the right it looks like he would have been a handsome sombitch before he got all jacked up.

Anyone wanna photoshop a lil bit and duplicate his right side to make a before and after?

Wait, so has Collider actually responded yet, or are they just gonna wait it out?

It's likely in about a week or so people won't even remember they biffed it that hard.
 
Also interesting that Manabyte mined the thread earlier for a description of Snoke and used it to swat at Collider's kneecaps, but now the actual picture is out and there's not a word about it.
 
To be fair to collider, I can see how Campea's wife's description (since she works with Hasbro or whatever) could be interpreted as being Plagueis if you were fanboying as hard for him as these guys.

But to assume that description meant it was definitely him is silly.
 
I like Snoke's design, but if we're going to have to endure a thousand comparisons to the Engineers from Prometheus, then I don't know if I'm down with it.
 
So, might as well put all the info we know about the First Order into one.

The seeds of the First Order start at the Imperial Academy on Arkanis around 4 years before ANH, when Commandant Brendol Hux begins selecting top cadets to create a secret society that will raise soldiers from birth, so that they have the biological diversity of Stormtroopers but the fighting prowess of Clonetroopers. The Empire tries to investigate this but their agent, Lt. Chiron, is killed, and whether it ever becomes official policy or not is unknown. Clearly, however, it ends up becoming or influencing First Order policy, since General Hux is rather obviously the ancestor of Commandant Hux, and Finn and the other First Order Stormtroopers don't have individual names, just numbers, and have likely been raised since their childhood for their mission. The First Order at the very least is an Outer Rim Imperial Remnant that is growing enough as a threat for Leia to organize the Resistance to oppose it, and they teach a propagandized version of history in which the Empire were the good guys, Luke Skywalker is public enemy number 1, and the New Republic is evil. The First Order constructs the Starkiller Base, possibly on Ilum, based on the same sort of idea as the Death Star, but with the idea of blowing up suns instead of just planets.

The Knights of Ren are some sort of dark side cult that are not the Sith, which massacred Luke's Jedi Academy. Kylo Ren is one of them, the son of Han and Leia, who fell under the sway of Supreme Leader Snoke and betrayed the Jedi, joining the Knights. The Knights and the First Order are intertwined, both serving under Snoke. Whether the Knights are related to the Acolytes of the Beyond, a Darth Vader cult on Taris who are around at least three months after the Battle of Endor, is unknown.

Snoke himself has been around since the OT days at least and is aware of the events of the GCW, but perhaps not directly involved. He is both powerful and vulnerable in some sense, and has a "true agenda" that his vulnerability belies. Palpatine's advisor Yupe Tashu said that Palpatine believed his power came from "beyond" the galaxy and he sent out scientists to colonize worlds in the Unknown Regions, and proposed following Endor that the remnant forces retreat outside the known galaxy to find the "wellspring" of the Dark Side. Whether any of this is related to Snoke is unknown but it's interesting to speculate, since Snoke is "aware" of the events of the war but possibly outside of them.

Yeah, that "joke" is old already. And that leak is just over 2 hours old.

Hopefully the movie will end the comparisons when we see a 7 foot tall Snoke and his damaged face.

I'm not as up on this as I should be. Are the Resistance and the New Republic separate political bodies? If the New Republic exists and is still Canon, why do they need to have a name like The Resistance? Is it because Leia and her forces went rogue in some way to oppose the New Order?

Here's hoping that at whatever point in this trilogy that he has to start busting skulls and taking names he comes across as IMPOSING and powerful as hell without having to resort to old man lightning every single time.

Same thing for Luke. He had better be a fucking force magician of the highest order by this time. Pushing AT-ATs over with his mind and shit.

This isn't 100% confirmed, but it sounds like the New Republic demilitarizes itself after the Empire is defeated on Jakku. When the First Order start looking like a threat to the galaxy, Leia forms the Resistance because the New Republic isn't going to be able (or isn't willing) to fight back.

Nobody knows yet. All we know is that the NR is definitely around at least very shortly before TFA because it is referenced as a current political body multiple times in the novella The Perfect Weapon, which is about Bazine Netal, one of the background characters at Maz's castle. But that's what we all kind of assume - the NR doesn't want to get dragged into war but Leia and a bunch of other old revolutionaries (Ackbar, Nien Nunb, Ematt, etc.) step up to the plate and form the Resistance within FO territory.

EDIT: Forgot what was mentioned above. Mon Mothma announces as her first act as Chancellor of the NR when the Senate convokes on Chandrila that she is doing away with the emergency powers that Palpatine was granted during the Clone Wars, and that after victory is secured she intends on demilitarizing something like 80 or 90% of the NR's forces, instead preferring to arm local systems so that they can defend themselves. She wants to push for a decentralized galaxy to prevent bureaucratization and power consolidation that led to the Empire, but some of her advisors think she's out of her mind for doing it. After Jakku, which is a year after Endor, she does not yet immediately disband the military but instead lets it continue to stay on war footing, but the assumption is that she eventually goes through with her plan.

Totally unrelated but this NR talk reminds me that I desperately want Lando to show up as the Chancellor in Episode VIII.

I don't think that's going to happen.

At least not in Ep. VII.

I expect his story line will be similar to Palpatine's in the OT. You won't get a sense of his power, motivations, or history until further on into the trilogy. Kylo Ren will be the main baddie of Ep. VII and he'll get the screen time and most of the focus.

Thats pretty weak on JJ part, I mean ive kind of been waiting 30 plus years to see what became of Luke, and I get 2 min. Awesome.

Kylo is just one of the Knights of Ren, but whether or not he's the top knight or Snoke's personal apprentice or something isn't really known. Snoke does sort of speak to Kylo rather...fondly I guess? in that one trailer, when he tells him "Even you have never faced such a test."

I would imagine that he's Snoke's apprentice due to his bloodline since he's the grandson of Darth Vader, which would probably catapult him right to the top of the other Knights. I also hope that they remember that he's the prince of Alderaan, just for the propaganda purposes (yes, I know Leia abdicated the throne in the Leia comic, but that could just be more reason for Kylo to feel angry since his rightful path to kingship of New Alderaan or whatever they decide to do having been thwarted could be an interesting story path to follow).

I hope the character has a backstory and is explained in this movie a little . Not just a shows up without any explanation kind of thing. I'm getting that feeling about 3POs red arm too, it's bugging me, why make that change? I hope that's explained too.

Well, the FO has red accents on the left side of their TIEs, I presume it's related.

IE: C3P0 did some undercover work at some point :D

Naw, if he was content to rule the Empire from the shadows I doubt he'd feel the need to be the face of a relatively ragtag bunch like the First Order.

This being the spoiler thread I would think that this is actually what happens. But still I have to ask, does Han really die like that? I thought he would have a part in the whole trilogy

He's dead.

edit: And yeah, he's Han and Leia's son. The more recently leaked call sheets from millenniumlfalcon.com state that Han and Leia bring him to the Jedi Academy to be trained by "his uncle" (Luke) in a flashback scene, then later on he murders all the other Jedi with the Knights.

The call sheet and set reports seem to indicate they do. Han is the one who confronts him to let the others get away.

Most likely yes. Han may not know that he's alive (or evil) until the events of this movie though.

I actually interpreted it to be that it was the same scene. When the academy is attacked Kylo is taken as a child.

Which could mean there was a different person who wore the Ren armor/mantle.
