I thought the sanitation thing would be a throwaway line but it ends up actually playing into a moment later on, which was kinda clever.

Ren's going to be training under the tutelage of Luke to become a legendary jedi master, and Finns going to be scrubbing x-wings and droids making minimum wage on top of his disability check smh

This is a trilogy. Why are so many people expecting answers and major bears in film one?

Look at the OT.

We didn't learn of Lukes relationship till the second film. We didn't see Luke have a saber fight till film 2. We didn't know who the Emperor was outside of a random cameo till film 3. We didn't learn who the other Hope was till film 3z

Look at the PT.

We didn't learn of the true depths of Lucas' incompetence till the second film. We didn't see a ridiculous full CG greenscreened arena battle which would quickly be dated till film 2. We didn't know ... I can't continue. Hurts too much. :(

So....Does Finn really reference working "in sanitation" for the FO or is that pure troll?

Bobby how was the action and did you feel there was a good division between the balance of CG and practical effects in the production? How much of it is noitcable?

Started at the bottom, now we comatose (BTW, if anyone wants to comment on that, I'd like to hear it. Is he legit vegetable mode, or is it more like a breathing apparatus and medical shit keeping him alive?)

Edit :

I heard he threatens to throw Phasma down a garbage chute.

Still, was it cringey at all?

That particular line, no.

Some of his other lines, yes.

I was much more impressed with Rey's character arc than Finn.

Put simply, if the next film focuses on Rey and Poe and sidelines Finn, I don't think it would be a bad thing.

Think of how much you know about Palpatine after you saw Empire Strikes Back. How much of the Empires origins you knew when you saw A New Hope.

How much did it bother you? There you go.

One thing I liked about both Episode 4 and Episode 4 was that they were pretty much self-contained episodes, with a real ending. Looks like we're not getting this here.

I feel there's too much going on in that movie, and not enough at the same time :P

I would like to know this since there looks to be a ton of action, more so than most Star Wars movies before it.

No matter how well the film does it, and how much Boyega owns the role Finn being a janitor and getting his ass kicked by Kylo is going to get so many people who didn't follow spoilers so freaked out. It's going to be hilarious to watch those reactions. Oh boy.

A New Hope was a selfcontained story. Noone wondered if Vader is Lukes father or not. Empire added layers, not answered questions.

Different beasts.

Can't wait.

Finn sounds much more interesting to me as a character than Rey, though

He's just going to spend the entire movie getting shit on from a great height just so he can get the white girl, I AIN'T FOOLED

There's some really cool ideas in the action that get maximized, visually (including a tracking oner that really shows off Poe's skills) and a couple things that could have been pretty cool but juuuuust missed sticking the landing. They're still cool, but it felt like Abrams actually pulled back the reins a little bit on the action. I've seen him push the pedal down harder.

But this is probably the best looking Star Wars film, overall. It's better than Empire in that regard, at least. Which is saying something, as Suschitzky put in some WORK on that movie. But Mindel makes it look real pretty.

I feel like people are blowing the Finn stuff out of proportion by saying he's a "bait-and-switch" or "misdirection" or whatever. He may not be a Jedi in this film, and he may not even become one eventually, but that doesn't mean he's not important to the plot. Hell, the biggest fan favorite characters in the OT weren't Jedi either.

It will be interesting to see if my impressions change after seeing the film. But from the summaries I'm reading I don't get the impression that I will be disappointed by Finn's role.

I don't know. I can't find joy in that. I feel bad, knowing that some people who were just hoping for a powerful, positive representation of their race might be disappointed, even if the character is well done and interesting.

Is Finn working in sanitation our first sort of reference on screen that people in the SW universe actually use the bathroom?

Huge!

Naw bruh, Finn is going to be the Krillin of Star Wars.

How can he still not be a positive representation? Bobby said the character is competent Boyega is great in this.

Why take pleasure in this though? I feel like you've done this a lot over the past couple of months.

A lot of people saw a female lead, male minority co-star, and were hoping that both of their characters would be special representations in some way.

I'm happy for Daisy Ridley/Rey, most seem to be saying that she's great in this.

But I'm pretty disgusted to find that Finn is even *worse* then spoilers suggested. He legit sounds like a clown in this.

A step forward, as well as a step back.

Really hope this is just my own anxiety. And if it's not, then I hope that there IS a backlash that catches on...because I'd like to see something better from him in the sequels.

I think I saw Spike at the premier event last night...wonder what he was thinking lol.

But we KNOW this is a trilogy. So not everything in the movie will be answered.

Different beasts was a way of saying they could be adressed, but Empire and Jedi are bad examples to make that point, simply because it does not apply to them.

In general, I think sequels should expand a filmuniverse, not close plotholes.

Yum yum... I'm watching this on a large digital screen with Dolby Atmos, that should be fine right? The IMAX 3D screenings were all sold out lol.

Nah Finns my man. Huge huge fan of Boyega and I have no doubt he will be my favorite character from the film (next to BB8!) It's just people had very unrealistic ideas on the character he was going to be playing. The next Luke sort of character was never in the cards, regardless of the race of who the actor picked was.
