The only thing I don't like about this being a nostalgia bait is that with the most formulaic director coming for ep viii this trilogy will approach cheap remake levels very quick.

Also BB-8 is totally adorable. But that's not really much of a spoiler now, is it? That's just how BB-8 rolls.

Is The Old Republic canon to the Star Wars storyline?

I tried installing it on my PC but it won't let me sadly.

No, sadly not.

But that said, it's got a lot of great stories, including as mentioned before the Imperial agent storyline.

I wish I could finish my Sith Warrior, but Alderaan is buggy for 30% of the people who play it apparently and of them 10% can't get the world to load with more than 5 fps.

The moment Han dies pretty much saw me at the verge of crying. The moment Han steps out and calls out to Ben on the walkway (which by the way I found to be a pretty touching moment in and of itself, realizing who they named Kylo after)... that's the moment you realize what's going to happen, especially if you've already seen the trailers that have you realize Kylo is going to be facing off against Finn later on regardless.

And the movie holds on for just long enough... just a few seconds when you're starting to think that the movie doesn't do what you fully expect is going to happen.

And just then it happens at your most vulnerable.

I couldn't take it. I had to let it out.

Just saw the movie and to be honest I have really mixed enotions. Finn was a pleasant suprise. Judging by the trailers and his facial expressions, I was afraid he was not going to be much more than a comic relief character, thankfully that wasn't the case. I also liked most of the action although some of it felt stupid like when Finn and Grey tried to escape the planet with the better ship before it got destroyed by the force only a few meters infront of them. Then they tried the "garbage" Millenium Falcon and they were inside of it in open daylight for many minutes trying to get it to work. Why wasn't it destroyed by the force aswell before they made it function again? Also when Grey and the team were reunited she was at first in shock because she thought it was stormtroopers, why didn't she shoot immidietly at that point? If it was STs and she didn't shoot at once she would have been caught again.

But the biggest disappointment would have to be Han Solo's death. Episode VI was planned to be the last one. Retconning that can be okay, but not if you're gonna kill of one of the main characters (unless it's only by old age) who had originally planned to live happily ever after. Really made me mad. And I did have a problem with Luke only being in at the very end. But that's only because he and Han Solo won't get reunited and have some dialogue together in the upcoming sequels. Unbelievable just...why?

Just saw this.

Really liked it. New cast was a treat and has totally set the franchise up with a strong new foundation. Felt like I was watching a Star Wars with human characters again.

Han's death was gut wrenching but I felt pretty well telegraphed by the film, and the cinematography was great.

Probably need to sleep on it now.

Rian Johnson is not formulaic. Perhaps you're referring to Trevorrow and episode IX?

Finally listening to the Soundtrack.

The "Ways of the force" track is so good, the back half gives me chills.

Rey's theme is surprisingly playful. It's actually pretty good I like it.

Snoke's theme, is very dark

well Finn is a trained stormtrooper, we have known for 30 years those guys suck at anything. if Finn was capable of anything, that would be nothing short of a retcon.

In episode 9 when he's a badass, we're gonna look back on these days and laugh

I hope so. cause this is ridiculous.

quits his job because he can't hack it.
no force powers.
losing to a storm trooper.
getting knocked out, and saved by rey.

taking all kinds of Ls.

do we even know what kind of clothes the guy wears? all we have seen is stormtrooper gear or poe's jacket.

Cause sometimes life isn't always "happily ever after" buddy. Some of the best drama involes heartbreak and loss. Would be too hokey if everything turns out happy with a big bow at the end.

LOL soooo many leaks. I can't help myself either, that Han audio :(

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole movie leaks before tomorrow at this point.

Wasn't Han meant to be killed off in TESB and then ROTJ but Lucas decided not to and that was part of Ford getting some resentment to the franchise? It's also the way he said he would come back, if he could give him a fitting death. Also VI...wasn't planned to the last one, depending on which of Lucas' bajillion contradictory statements you choose to believe :P

Guys, if you want to know the plot, just read the spoiler board PDF. Should be pretty accurate. http://spoilerboard.blogspot.com/

For anyone who wants the most basic rundown possible without bothering to invest their time in that:

-15-20 years after RotJ, Luke's new Jedi order is slaughtered by the Knights of Ren. Han and Leia's son aids the Knights in their slaughter, takes the name Kylo Ren. Luke disappears.
-30 years after RotJ. By this point an imperial remnant called the First Order has arisen and a group called the Resistance led by Leia is set up to oppose it. The New Republic probably still exists but is not involved. Leia sends X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron to Jakku to meet with Lor San Tekka, who has somehow gotten Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber which contains information pointing to Luke. Kylo finds out, attacks the village. Finn is a Stormtrooper and he refuses to kill the villagers. Poe is captured but puts the lightsaber in BB8, who flees. Lor is killed. Poe is brought back to the Star Destroyer Finalizer and interrogated; Finn decides to abandon the First Order, breaks Poe out, and they hijack a TIE but get shot down. Finn thinks Poe dies, takes his jacket, trudges off into the distance.
-Rey, a scavenger on Jakku, meets BB8 and tries to sell him but fails. She meets Finn in a bazaar, they get tailed by TIE Fighters and escape by hijacking the Millennium Falcon. The Falcon gets sucked up by a gigantic freighter in space, where they find Han Solo, who is in the middle of a gang war between two different groups and some monstrous cargo. They help Han and Chewie, who reunite with the Falcon, and when Han finds out about the lightsaber BB8 is carrying he decides to take them to Takodana, where they meet the pirate Maz Kanata, who apparently has a history with the OT3.
-Supreme Leader Snoke orders a demonstration of the First Order's superweapon, Starkiller Base, which is a planet retrofitted with a massive superlaser. They fire at Takodana and (possibly?) destroy a ship from an emissary from Leia. The First Order invades Takodana. Maz shows the others a vision of the history of the lightsaber, showing how it had been used during the Knights' raid on the Jedi Academy and passed through multiple hands until coming to Jakku. Rey feels an intense revulsion to the lightsaber and runs away, so Maz gives it to Finn. Finn uses it in battle against a riot trooper, but the tide of battle doesn't turn until Poe (who somehow survived) shows up leading his squadron. However, Kylo Ren captures Rey and takes her back to Starkiller Base.
-Kylo interrogates Rey and learns something about her that makes him think he no longer needs the lightsaber to find Luke. She MAY be Luke's daughter (this is still unknown since most dialogue has not leaked out) and MAY have been a young child at the Jedi Academy who was hidden away during the slaughter. In any even, Finn meets with the Resistance High Command gives them info on Starkiller Base. Leia authorizes a strike, but Han also wants to rescue Rey. He and Finn go off to Starkiller Base but she has already broken out by that point and meets with them. A battle erupts between First Order and Resistance forces, culminating in both sides' fleets being wiped when General Hux authorizes the use of an "array" superweapon. Poe's group survives however and after Finn uses the lightsaber to destroy the shield generator, they begin their attack run on the base.
-Kylo Ren confronts Han and murders him. Finn pursues Kylo into the forest and they duel but Finn gets beat. Rey accepts her destiny as a Jedi and takes up the lightsaber, duels Kylo, possibly results in a standstill, but either way the ground around them starts to collapse as Poe's group pounds the base. They escape when Chewie rescues them in the Falcon.
-3PO, R2, and BB8 solve the "puzzle" from the lightsaber that points to Luke's location. Rey says goodbye to Finn as he recuperates in the medical bay. She says goodbye to Leia and sets off with Chewie in the Falcon. They arrive at Luke's hideout and Rey presents him with the lightsaber, becoming his padawan.

Well that sounds pretty good story and very much OT style, should be a fun watch.

Hmm ok, but no reunion with Luke I still can't get over

Movie was entertaining, but I feel was way too much of a retread of the original trilogy, especially ANH.

Hoping that Rian will be a bit more daring to shake things up.

Was there a flashback to Reyn being dropped on Jakku(so) as a child with what appeared to be a Vader voice?

Am I imagining that? What do we make of that.

What is the whole deal with Snoke? Why is he the highest commander? I understand he wants to rule the galaxy, find Luke and destroy the Jedi but everybody wants that. Why are Kylo and Hux even obeying to Snoke?

Vader jobbed to that "Whats his name"- Admiral. Noone knows why. Its tradition
