I don't think that was him at all. Where are you hearing that it was?

Also, I think the line was "Scavenger scum."

It was.

Some nobjockey is spoiling it for people on FB and actually said:

Kasper James Stewart: Discussing plot and "what happens" is still discussion. Whether you want to know or not is irrelevant.

Kasper James Stewart Basically: their right to speak trumps your desire to remain ignorant.

Imagine being this moronic?

Absolute gut feeling, but 100% certain its him. Hes got very specific intonations. Especially the way he says "dropping my weapon". If anyone is rewatching soon listen out for it.

Well the lightsaber fight was really lackluster, although it's perfectly understandable that these characters don't know how to properly fight yet, it makes sense. It's just not that satisfying to watch imo.

In my opinion it was one of the best fights yet. Raw, untrained/wounded, emotionally fueled. Only Luke/Vader tops it. The ballet style from the PT was worse every time. The ANH one was downright awful. Let's not even discuss Yoda or Grievous.

I really like how they handle it. It's just a couple of people with weapons unloading on each other, good stuff.

I didn't think it was lackluster at all. I'd rank it above allof the prequel fights bar maybe Anakin vs Obi-Wan. It's definitely in my top three.

The moment the "object" is "lost" is the from the most pivotal scene in the entire saga.

maybe the most iconic scene/line from movie history actually ?

I'm gonna shut up about the lightsaber as it's pretty clear that I simply have different priorities in storytelling than other (not that I shouldn't have already known that :P).

And now it's found.

And it isn't relevant we're told how it was found when the last time anyone saw it, it was flyng into a poo chute?

It isn't relevant that the lightsbare long thought lost of a man they're actively trying to trackdown as he's gone AWOL?

It could have been any sort of lightsabre and the story could have plodded on fine, maybe even Maz's. But when you attach significance to it, they should have at least have the goods ready to explain.

Different strokes I guess.

Edit: Lol, as above^

Going to spoiler this just in case someone actually stumbles into this thread thinking it's not the spoiler one:

Christ, the scene with Han and Kylo Ren on the bridge...I can't remember ever experiencing that much tension over the possibility of a character dying! Which is refreshing as usually it's pretty obvious one way or another, but I was genuienely doubtful they'd actually do that. Very brave stuff and a nice example of them willing to take risks.

Wonderful, wonderful film, and so far away from the prequels in tone and quality as to be comical. Massive kudos to everyone involved, somehow they pulled it off!

It was obvious.

Pretty much the same for me. One of my main worries for TFA was always the lightsaber fight as i feared it would be too choreographed and "computer like", like a TAS speedrun.

Here it felt like it had a bit of grit and personality to it. Both fumbling a bit as they're both inexperienced but full of anger and tension. It's unrefined, as it should be. And we'll probably be the following fights in the next movie getting more and more precise and assured, hopefully, to show the evolution of the characters

I kind of like the name "Snoke" actually in that it's a play on both "Snake" and "Smoke"

Smoke is symbolic of mystery
Snake is symbolic of evil

Mega post on the film, bullet-pointed since I'm tired.

First act was far stronger than the others, beautiful shots of Rey's lonely existence on Jakku, Finn and Poe busting out the base etc.
- Awesome to see places and scenarios we've never seen before in Star Wars, like the snowy Starkiller base, enriched the final duels visually
- BB-8 is adorable fucking hell, they absolutely nailed it's design and interactions
- I like how Finn is both Han and Luke from ANH, has the wit but also the courage etc.
- Ford was great, the old Han Solo thing shouldn't really have worked, but it actually did
- Carrie Fisher on the other hand was disappointing, very flat. She might as well have not been in the film as well.
- People slander Boba Fett but fuck me that Captain Phasma what a punk, she didn't do a fucking thing.
- I think the design team have done a marvelous job on the tricky task of bring Star Wars up to date, but still retaining the old elements. Only exception would be Kylo Ren's mask which sucks, should have just went straight for the Revan copy.
- I feel the pirate having Luke's lightsaber and then Rey running away was all a bit clunky
- So lightsabers give you visions now?
- I know exactly as much about Supreme Leader Snoke as I did before I saw the film, except what he looks like. That's disappointing.
- Was hoping he would look a bit more alieny, instead looks one of those Separatist leaders from Episode II. Wasn't he supposed to be a snake or something?
- Bit of a waste getting the guys from The Raid and not having them fight
- Also disappointed at how we didn't see anything (bar those couple shots) of the Knights of the Ren
- Death Star 3.0 is LAME
- X-wing dogfighting, so good

About Kylo Ren

- For me, they revealed his identity far too early, it was like mentioned casually from Snoke that he's Solo's son. Odd way to do it.
- Again, he shouldn't have revealed his face to Rey during the interrogation scene.
- After his identity is revealed, fuck me it's all anyone can talk about. Every scene with Han and Leia must have mentioned it, look I know he's your son, but stop beating my head with it.
- I would have staved off his reveal until Han exclaims "Ben!", and the audience would be like who the fuck is that? Then keep the dialogue pretty much the same, with Kylo for the first time taking his mask off.
- So how did he fall to the dark side? That wasn't properly explained I don't think, he just killed everyone in the old academy after being influenced by Snoke. But when did this start? How did it happen?
- Getting serious prequel Anakin vibes from him, but with better acting
- Hilarious how he just starting mashing the console with his lightsaber, throwing a right hissyfit.
- The guy is clearly mega powerful with the force, I mean holding blaster shots mid-flight and whatnot
- Ending duels were fantastic and really 'heavy', the blows felt like they had massive impact to them.
- Finn did way better than he had any right to do, I know Kylo was wounded and mentally drained but Finn shouldn't have been able to land a single strike on him imo.
- I can understand Rey though since she's clearly a Jedi and the force has 'awakened' in her, thought her charge-up mode when she closed her eyes was a bit silly though.

Also FUCK that helicopter shot when she meets Luke.

(This makes it sound as if I didn't like it, thought it was great 8/10)

Couldn't help but think of the early scenes in Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (a film which also draws on Star Wars: A New Hope) when Ren was scavenging through dangerous ruins in the desert for supplies (so alike to Nausicaa in the forest). They share incredible skill and resourcefulness too - Ren can fly the Millennium Falcon and duel with a lightsaber as well as Nausicaa can fly her glider and repair her village's damaged machines and buildings.

That aside, I don't have much to add that hasn't been said - it's very consciously echoing A New Hope, in everything from its characters to its structure, and even its dialogue on occasion. I'm sure a Star Wars afficiondo will be able to pick out every single reference to the original trilogy, and it'll be a long list. Rey didn't quite grab me like Luke did - perhaps because so little is known about her background - but I still found her an effective lead, and she had many of my favourite scenes (taking over from Han Solo in the Falcon with Chewie at her side was genuinely moving, the aforementioned scenes in the desert, the mind-duel with Kylo Ren where he's bested and has his secrets poured out). Oscar Isaac is excellent as Poe, getting his youthful exuberance across without bravado - hope he becomes a bigger character in the sequels. Boyega's Finn is sympathetic as the runaway discovering his bravery, even if his exchanges with Rey didn't quite click with me. I found the earlier set pieces by and large better than the later ones - the cross-cutting finale was much less gripping than say, Poe and Finn's escape, or Rey's flying the Falcon, although I enjoyed the Ren vs. Rey duel (pushed back initially, she finds her feet and turns the tables on a wounded foe).

It's safe, it's nostalgic, it's fleet while remembering to breath, it's mostly well written and most importantly, it's fun. The best compliment I can pay it is that it ran for well past two hours and I never thought about the time.

Captain Phasma was a bit of a joke. Not only did she do nothing except walk around and look shiny, she instantly flipped and deactivated the entire fucking base shield the second a gun was pointed at her. She should have called their bluff like a boss.

The clone army was mentionned, but is that specifically a prequel reference? Obi Wan or Luke mentions the clone wars in A New Hope.
Absolutely.

Originally the Clone Wars was just this battle that happened on a single planet, and Lando was supposed to be one of the clone or clone templates from this planet, as stated in some cut backstory from Empire Strikes Back.

The idea of it being a full blown Galactic War with a huge clone army didn't really come into play till Episode II.

Ok that was some good stuff!

Finn not being a force user make me happy, Captain Phasma / Nux will be his arch enemies moving forward i hope. He needs normal people to fight after all.

Rey Skywalker, well well, abandoned by her father to protect her from the force influence. He has just seen his best friends son fall to the dark side under his schooling, Luke would for sure see this as his only out. Dumped her on a planet in outer rim with and im just guessing here Wedge Antilles 'Max von Sydow' and took off. He gave Wedge the map to find him as in the end he knew the force would find a way to bring her to him. P.s her staff lightsaber will be awesome and green.

Han... cya buddy.

Poe, ok

BB8 great

Kylo, troubled little child, about to become robot man with anger issues.

One issue though, im sure Boltcaster shots are green?

As soon as I saw the bolt from the caster I thought "cheeky buggers..... That's meant to be green!" Then Thought damn I've played too many Star Wars games!

Yeah, I was really disappointed when it turned out she actually HAD disabled the shields. Finn's plan was really shitty and definitely should have ended with Han firing over his shoulder at hordes of Stormtroopers.

She'll be back, I'm sure.

So, what is up with the blue blaster shot that Kylo suspends in midair? Like, no one has fired a blue blaster before or since.

But now we'll always see her as the coward who instantly dropped the shields instead of being a fearsome captain.

Clone troopers use blue blasters in the prequels.

Absolutely.

How the fuck is a single battle on a single planet a "war" let alones "warS?"

The way people spoke about it in the OT novelizations, I imagined it to be some colossal galactic conflict that lasted years if not decades.

Clones used blue blaster bolts.
So did the villagers. It happens.

Kylo Ren seems to be a master of "stasis field" type application of telekinesis. It was awesome.

isn't she technically dead? I mean, they hardly had time to evacuate and I don't think there's an emergency escape pod for trash.

I figured it was to show that Kylo Ten is extremely strong in manipulating the force to do its will. Kind of like the mind probing. He's untrained, but appears to be insanely strong in the force. Given his heritage, not surprising.

Some of these TFN reviews are cracking me up. Once just said that Finn is worse than Jar Jar, Maul's a better character than Kylo and the lightsaber fight is the worst in the series. I can't...

These are little EU shithead fanboys who are bitter and pissed that Lucasfilm wiped out the EU. Same ilk who are intentionally spoiling the movie on Twitter. Pay them no mind.

Kathy Kennedy hinted she'll have a bigger role in the next films. Hell, it couldn't be much smaller.

If Episode VIII has both Kylo and Rey out of the way doing some training, then I suppose the first two acts' action will be based around Finn and Poe vs the First Order. Plenty of time for Phasma to get some revenge.

The possibility was obvious. But I still didn't expect them to actually do it.

I was prepared for it and 100% sure it was going to happen, and it still hit me. And then the moment when han reached out and laid his hand on 'Bens' face. I had tears in my eyes.

I legit lost my shit when Han shouted Ben.

That actually got to me more than his death, because I was spoiled, in part, but mostly because of the emotion into it.

Ford could seriously be up for a best actor nom, if Disney pushes enough for it. Don't know about Oscars, but he's definitely going to be mentioned now.
