I remember there were rumors about Kylo Ren occupying Vader's castle. There might have even been concept art made. Was this cut or just an idea they were throwing around?

I think what I liked best was that Kylo, Rey and Finn were all untrained with the sabers. It made their encounters more amateur and raw.

Kylos temper tantrums were great. The humor of "anything else?" After destroying the console was fantastic.

Similarly, Rey's Jedi mind trick was great.

Also, reggae cantina music was awesome.

I rather liked Lupita's character myself. Plus that section where Rey finds Luke's lightsaber and has all of those visions of the past/present/future was one of my favorite moments in the movie.

Her and snoak are the two most boringly modeled cg characters ever. Design team needs to go back to art school or something.

amazing how he's gone from "the single most important person for why this movie is working at all" in the first six movies to "can this dude retire already"

The score is fine, but I can imagine a reality with Williams and Giacchino collaborating.

It would be so fucking lit.

lol @ people making excuses for the film regarding Rey's sudden force mastery abilities. Sometimes you just need to accept that the writing is sloppy.

Saying 'but she's incredibly strong with the force' doesn't explain the things the posters you're responding to are complaining about. It's a lazy misstep in an otherwise pretty good film.

Apparently being able to fight with a big wooden stick translates over directly to adeptness with a light saber.

It's just ridiculous.

Design was definitely very boring but she made the character come to life.

I hope we see her again someday. I need to know how she got Anakin/Luke's lightsaber.

Well then it looked just like Coruscant? One giant city planet

There's more than one city planet in the EU at least, don't see why they can't exist in the movies.

Is Finn implied to be Force sensitive? I didnt understand how he could pick up a lightsaber out of nowhere and be able to fight in two different scenes.

Liked the film but had some pretty glaring problems with it. I yelled NO!! at that cliffhanger-ass ending in the theater lol

Not sure you need to be force sensitive to use a lightsaber. I'm sure it's dangerous but not impossible.

Yeah, on second view, and after listening to the soundtrack - Abrams should have called Giacchino. I know that he would have gotten ripped to hell and back for not getting Williams when Williams was available, and people would have shit on him for "snubbing" the Maestro - but Giacchino probably would have been a better fit.

I definitely think Williams was the right move for this one, though. Just like with Han's return and Death Star / Starkiller, Yoda/Maz parallels, it's a wise move to make this feel like an echo of the old films to pull people back into this world that we haven't seen in so long. Then, now that we're here, we can shake things up in the future ones.

But real talk, both of Giacchino's Trek scores wipe the floor with Williams' TFA one. >_>

Alright, I'm game.

Maz just disappears
Phasma just disappears
Hux just disappears
Kylo just disappears

Not that we needed shots of them boarding ships and lifting off, but at least shots of them SOMEWHERE after their final scene ends. Even Vader got quick little "here he is, and here's where he's going" in Star Wars.

There's going to be some interesting stories about the editing of this film, I'm pretty sure.

Like, I think there was a scene between "we have to keep making bombing runs" and "We got a lot of company" or at least, it feels like there should have been something inbetween there .

That post credits jar jar scene tho

it was great, some of the writing was a bit off but I can overlook that. I enjoyed it a lot

Just got back from the movie, it was awesome as hell but had some weird things happen in it. Why was Rey suddenly so skilled in the mind trick? It was weird but I ignored it. Also even though I was thinking "How does he know how to use a light saber?" The whole time, Finn going 1v1 with Kylo was awesome. Either way it was a good movie and I'm hyped for the next one.

What post credits stuff?

Poe just showing up back at the base felt kinda...weird. He's capable of it, and he's a character I want to show up more (a bit disappointed that he didn't get more dialogue), but the explanation felt offhanded. It's a super minor nitpick, obviously; I was just wondering if anyone else thought it was awkwardly done?

I get that, but I'm thinking that at this point, Giacchino would have done a better job of scoring those echoes than Williams would have.

There's a reason the most powerful "Fuck yeah" moment in the movie features music directly tracked in from Star Wars.

Finn was absolutely my favorite character. Rey was ok. Poe was great too. i loved the camaraderie between Poe and Finn. Movie was absolutely wonderful for what it was.

I really don't understand why you would want another scene with Ren. His story ended right where it should have.

why @ that helicopter shot at the end tho

reminded me of all those abominable helicopter shots in LOTR

A reeaaaally bad final shot. This was a beautiful film in most parts, but I don't know what they were thinking there. Just need Rey's face -> Luke hood comes off -> wide shot of both, but they really flubbed that scene in my opinion.

He's the new Wedge. He just can't die.

Fully agree. Should've just cut right after the back and forth stare. It's obvious filmography.

My guess is snoke = plageius

Also, I'm thinking now that Kylo is fully dark and has killed his father and is likely disfigured / in need of mechanical assistance, and that he lost his mask, he will become closer and closer to vader's appearance as this trilogy continues. He's obsessed. His next costume iteration will be more heavily influenced by his grandfather, I'm sure of it.

One of my biggest question coming out of this: Can/Will Ben Solo be redeemed?

I mean killing Han Solo seemed to seal the deal here right?
Even if they ever capture him alive, I'm pretty certain that the Republic will execute Ben for all he has done up to this point, which even Leia won't have the authority over such matter.

Also, when Snoke said "complete his training", does that imply that Ben now gets a Darth title and becomes a full-fledged Sith Lord?

I am extremely intrigued in what they will have in store for Ben going forward...

Oh boy! What do you not understand about what I am posting? They make it explicitly clear in the film that they kidnap and brain wash troopers from an early age, how much of the force or brain washed babies we have no idea but we now know at least some of the fighting force comes from them. Additionally, we know from the prequels that some of the fighting force is or was made up of Clone Troopers. Now, in the OT all we seemed to be shown were that they were Space Nazi's who we can assume volunteered or were conscripted. The extra knowledge that Stormtroopers could potentially be brain washed babies along side the "reeducation" bit introduced in this film and the entire arc of Finn's character humanizes Stormtroopers and shows they aren't all evil.

Thus, as I said before, it's hard to revel in their deaths when some of those Troopers are potentially brain washed, kidnapped children, who were never given a name and taught nothing but how to kill.

I don't understand why you are so fundamentally confused and hung up on this. The fighting force is almost all clone troopers in the PT. They dwindle in number due to any number of reasons and so the Empire ramps up their numbers through any means necessary and so most if not all of their fighting force are not clones. The First Order is implied to be zealots, conscripts and volunteers, (some of them DO have names), forced laborers (FN the sanitation worker), new clones, etc.

For some crazy reason, you are reallly hung up on the baby thing. I don't fucking get it. Literally no one else is talking about this. It's a theory you made up in your head to explain why you hate the stormtrooper killing as if its some sort of violence glorification that is alien to the past 6 movies. You're bizarre and officially done indulging your delusions of what you imagine happened in TFA.

Agreed. Luke showed her some shit in the past.

I really don't see where you guys are getting this from.

The film has so many direct parallels to the OT it seems the obvious answer is what we're going to get.

Luke hid her on a desert planet to keep her safe and left her with a trusted old dude to watch over her. You know, just like what happened to him.

Leia embraces her because she knows she's family, not random cadet from Luke's Jedi factory.

I really don't understand why you would want another scene with Ren. His story ended right where it should have.

I don't. I want a shot of Ren & Hux (and maybe w/ Phasma onboard) in a shuttle for 1-2 seconds as the planet is transforming into a sun. So we know for a fact they got away. Sorta like how you got a shot of Vader in his spaceship for 1-2 seconds after the Death Star blew.

Imagine the end of that movie without that quick shot of him rebalancing and retreating into space. It would seem weird.

Like this does.
