Really liked the movie myself, although there were some moments I did not like.
The first scene in that little village seemed like a soundstage rather than actually in the desert, which is fine, but whatever.
Poe is definitely going to be the new "Han". Hes got attitude, hes got snarkyness, and he is an amazing pilot.
Rey was perfect, could not have asked more of her. A strong female Jedi.
Could see Han's death from a mile away. From all the talk about their son, bringing him back and the walkway. Also that line that Kylo-Ren gave about being torn apart and if Han could help him stop it was just the worst line in the whole movie.
Leia didn't do much, so whatever.
The dogfighting scenes were amazing (I got D-Box tickets and it was sooo good).
Finn and Rey took too quickly to lightsabers. Rey is a bit more understandable if she is gifted in the force, but Finn should have been a pushover for Kylo-Ren with some quick force sidestep or something, hes a trained sith.
The little love angle that Finn has for Rey seems way too forced.
I would have loved if they ended the movie just as Luke was about to turn around, but you had to show him. Hes got the whole Obi-Wan look going, loved it. Good thing Hamill slimmed down for the role.
BB-8 is adorable. They really gave him a lot of personality.
So as some speculation goes, with her force powers, with her being left behind and Han seemingly being a father figure, Rey has to be connected to the Solo's/Skywalker's in some way. Obviously the EU isn't cannon anymore, but they clearly took some inspiration from it. Kylo-Ren is totally Jacen Solo and named Ben just like Luke in the EU named his son in honor of Ben Kenobi.
We hear that Kylo-Ren destroyed the new Jedi order that Luke built and Luke felt it was his fault. Why would Kylo-Ren do it?
Two possible speculations. First, Han and Leia had a second kid, a younger sibling to Kylo-Ren. She showed off more powerful force alignment at a much younger age and he got jealous. Killed the other Jedi's and tried to find more power in the Dark Side just like his grandfather. His younger sister got taken and left on Jakku to hide her away (much like Luke was left on Tatooine). She would have the Skywalker bloodline and the force attunement to go with it, and explains how quickly she got to be a good pilot and how she was fixing the Milenium Falcon and something Han clearly saw in her when he offered her that job.
Second speculation is pretty much the same except that she is actually Luke's daughter, much like in the extended universe he had Ben Skywalker. Again, being left on Jakku for safety would be like Luke's story.
I'd give it a solid 7.5 or 8 out of 10. Lot of good stuff to unpack.
BTW, did anyone else notice at the end, before Luke turned around, on the ground he had like a mini headstone at his feet as if to mark Han's death (as if he felt it in the force)?
edit: forgot to mention the new Death Star. That was the dumbest thing. They need a new weapon. Also if you could have destroyed the New Galactic Republic so easily why didn't you do it earlier? Sucking the sun's energy to power it (the physics alone just ruins this, yes lets drain the sun and destroy the solar system). The First Order, come on, sooooo cheesy, also where the fuck did you find so many people to join you (specially since you aren't the officially recognized government of the galaxy), to build that thing on that planet in that timespan
My mom was slightly upset that Han died
My parents (and probably people of that generation) are going to hate that they killed off Han.
