Destructoid's 2015 GOTY is...

Bloodborne got robbed.
Also, I'd say "whatever" since that's pretty much what I felt about the vanilla game after beating it three times. Felt a bit unfinished or short compared to the last few Miyazaki games, and the chalice dungeons were a complete waste of time aside from the bosses. But as I'm currently playing through The Old Hunters, and there really wasn't anything else to scratch that itch this year, I guess there really wasn't any true competition anyway.

I thought the game was bad but congrats to From Software. I wonder what's next for them.
It was my least favorite From Software developed "Souls" like game I've played due to the lack of build variety, bur the rumor of them developing a JRPG moistens the thighs every time I hear it.

I'm a mega huge souls fan, and I thought BB was a good experience with many short comings.

Then again I don't think any game in 2015 deserved GOTY. Hoping 2016 has a game that finally blows me away this generation (Persona 5, UC4,DS3)

Eh, they had been making "JRPGs" since 1994 already. Hopefully this isn't just a return to Kings Field or Shadow Tower Abyss. The Souls games were a natural progressions from those anyway.

That's pretty much how I felt about 2015 overall. It was a very lukewarm year for good games. 2016 however really does seem like it's going to have an explosion of quality titles. Hell, even though it's just a remaster, in January we get Dragon's Dogma, in February Street Fighter 5, in March Dark Souls 3 etc.

Oh I agree, I just meant traditional turn based JRPG, which is how I took that rumor.

GTA V isn't even good.

Oh you.

If it was easily the best, then shouldn't it have one more GOTY awards?

Well, more hardcore (Japanese) titles often only win in specific places (like Bayo 2 last year for example). Or Dark Souls.
They never get the majority, but I can totally see it winning Edge and Eurogamer for example. The UK in general seems more willing to award it GotY, with Empire, The Telegraph and The Guardian picking it as GotY.

It's my GotY as well and I think it would give a healthy signal to the industry.

It's a game that respects the player, has exemplary level and encounter design and blends narrative and gameplay in a completely organic matter, something few games accomplish.

TW3 is my game of the year, but I am still glad to see someone giving the award to my runner up in Bloodborne. It is most deserving.

Glad Bloodborne finally got some recognition. Witcher 3 slightly edges it out for me personally, but both games are top 5 of all time for me and are lightyears beyond anything else released this year, or the past few years at least.

Depends on your priorities; gameplay or narrative.

Basically. Far as I'm concerned, however impressive Witcher 3 is on a technical/narrative level, the terrible combat system is a pretty massive drawback that means it can't match up to Bloodborne in the one area that matters most, gameplay... and that's why I personally consider it an inferior experience at least.

If Bloodborne wins GAF GOTY I'll try xD

If BB wins GAF goty, the salt from certain posters will be MGS4-tier hilarious. Which would be reason enough to want it to win even if it wasn't actually the best game to come out this year :P

And everyone forget about Bioshock infinite.
Still amaze by Bloodborne level design, so good.

Yeah the level design is the reason why it's my personal GOTY. No other game came close to the sense of exploration and discovery I got from BB. the game's difficulty and soul/blood echo mechanic are such an important factor in this

If you want brutal you should check how The Last of Us ran away with it. The Witcher and Fallout 4 is close in comparison.

Is it really that far apart? Witcher has about 5 times more than the second place atm. The last of us numbers someone posted have last of us at 90 more but there are more awards overall it seems, not sure how many are still coming this year.

But...but...but...you beat it three times. You obviously enjoyed the game quite a bit. Should certainly earn more than a "whatever".
