This gif is amazing.

Your move, Sony.

Wow.

I hope PSVR is cheaper.

I don't think PSVR will be nearly as expensive as this, but on the other hand it won't be as capable either. However, you'll probably be able to pick up a PSVR unit + PS4 console for about two-thirds the cost of the Rift + a capable PC. Sony should double-down on that, because the enthusiast is probably going to check out Rift or Vive, while the more casual consumer will probably go for the simpler solution in PSVR.

Was that the expected price?

I think most people expected it to be around $500 to have a good shot at success.

FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE U.S. DOLLARS

FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE U.S DOLLARS

This is great. I fucking love Gaf! :)

My PC passed their compatibility test but I can't afford that without something massively exclusive that I know I want for it. I mean if GTA VI was Rift exclusive and was a launch game then I'd think about it but even then. Hope its worth it for those who buy it though - its your money and you can spend it how you want :D

With a price like that, VR is not going to take off....

Here's hoping Vive and PS VR are not going to be so expensive

Vive doesn't have Facebook behind it, and it has more complex tech, no? By all means, it should cost more. I expect PSVR to be cheaper, but because its tech will probably be the least advanced.

Too much for me considering I'd also have to upgrade my PC.

Not surprised by the price, though. It's that early adopter price tag. They're not going for total world domination this year.

Tried multiple credit cards and none will go through, all with the generic "something went wrong error"

And now shipping in April?

This thing is a huge disappointment..

700 euros without shipping, which is probably like 50 euros.

Yeah okay, no thanks. If it was half of that, maybe, but for now I'll wait a couple of years to see if VR even takes off.

59900 bucks. That's expensive.

Been trying to complete checkout with PayPal for 20 minutes. I give up. PayPal is fine..so it's the Oculus store not working.

Guess I'm not buying one.

ITT: People who don't know how much expensive very advanced screen tech and a crap load of sensors cost.

First generation devices are always expensive.
Playstation VR is going to cost about as much, I suspect.

sony has one advantage in that they can ship a base sku without camera or controllers to save costs to have a headline figure that is lower. But even with the camera it should be cheaper - single 1080p panel vs twin panels in the OR/Vive will keep costs down quite a bit

As much as everyone is complaining about price this run will sell out fast. In fact the site is being hammered for orders.

I tried two credit cards and PayPal twice before it actually went through on PayPal

Says it'll ship April for me

Enough time to see if vive is worth cancelling for, or if nvidia puts out a pascal chip

Exciting times

Cue video of "how to buy PSVR" featuring Adam Boyes handing Shu 400 dollars.

But yeah... VR is a tough sell, but it's going to be even tougher in the console market when the thing will cost way more than the console itself.

Well, I'm getting tired of the errors to get my order through. It's like a higher power is trying to stop me from buying this for a big reason.

Looking forward to seeing the PSVR price further crush the delusions of people who thought VR would be a mass-market success anytime soon.

it'll be niche even at "only" $300
