Wonder Woman - First look

Uhh, please no slowmo, that's just overused and a cheap (looking) tool making fights look cooler which they don't, at least not for me.
Otherwise it looks not bad.
Eh to each to their own, I think fight scenes that have been choreographed and filmed with slow-mo in mind can have just as much impact as fights that are shown in real time. Kinda like 3D, as long as it's not put in as an after-thought in post production it has the potential to be great. Seeing as how we've only seen snippets of footage of a film coming out next year, I don't think we should pass judgement so soon.

Love the cinematography, the doure look is perfect for WWI (there weren't nazis in WWI people), and Gal looks perfect. I have a great feeling about this one.

I know nothing about Wonder woman besides her common image costume, but the red/blue/gold and the diadem/tiara on her forehead doesn't really speak greek mythos to me.

I have no problems if it's used occasionally, but if the fight or actions scenes in general consists of 50% slow motion (i.e. in every scene there is one slow mo) then I have low expectations in terms of action for the movie.

That slow motion of WW turning herself in this scene looks unnecessary and out of place, which worries me.

The movie 300 was the final straw in (over-)using slow motion (+speedup and the obviously fake blood which is irrelevant though) for me. Every time there is such a scene it makes me less excited than I should be, but there could be exceptions if it's really well done.

The video linked in the OP described WW as coming from a Greek Mythology.

A bunch of Wonder Woman's lore and Themyscira's aesthetic is based around Greek imagery and iconography. I mean the main bad guy in this is likely Ares.

Wow, yeah! I just rewatched the clip and they do mention it indeed... It's weird, I had always thought Wonder Woman had her own 'mythology'...

But you're right, people like Hercules and Ares come and go in her stories.

The tone is different than I expected, but I think this could be good.

Sorry for outing myself as lowbrow or whatever, but I think this stuff is cool and that 300 benefited from it. I wouldn't change a thing about that movie's action scenes.

I actually liked the muted colors, but she's so damn skinny. She just looks like a pretty model dressed up for Halloween. Nothing about her says Wonder Woman to me. :(

Same. The guy in the video even said she's been training her whole life, and she's the best warrior of her people.

I'm still going to watch the movie.

As long as it's done consistently and creatively, rather than as a crutch, I don't mind how often it's used. That sometimes feels like the exception rather than the rule and sadly if it is used often it can be symptomatic of slack filming. Granted, the bar isn't very high for action in Hollywood today.

Again, it's futile to judge how well they've used slow-mo here when the gif is not indicative of how the shots will be edited in the actual scene. I agree it looks odd the way they've shown it here, but given that they clearly took three cool looking shots out of sequence and put them together for the intention of showcasing what they've done so far, as opposed to making a coherent fight sequence, it doesn't warrant any concern. I am skeptical, but skepticism should usually be in play and I haven't seen enough to be worried. If anything, overall, the footage in this thread has grabbed my interest.

While it's not really prevalent in this thread, I do get a little weary of people being dismissive towards how Snyder films his action simply because of slow-mo. Personally, Snyder by far has the most interesting approach to filming action in the comic adapted films of late, and when he sticks the landing it's unmatched in quality.

She's the best warrior as the Greek gods gave her that ability. It isn't as though she had to work and train so hard like Batman the regular human has to.

What? That's not accuate at all. She trained with Ares and with the rest of the Amazons. She wasn't just given her fighting ability.

Looks great.:D

Also, I'm pretty disgusted by all the skinny comments. You guys enjoy bodyshaming people?
Well it is the internet, and more specifically NeoGAF. I'm not even surprised.
It's not like she's always drawn to be super muscular anyways...

Ok, probably came out a bit confusing. I just mean her strength and speed were blessed upon her. She would not be at the level she is otherwise.

Well, Amazons (as told by DC) are naturally stronger than ordinary humans. The Atlanteans as well. Wonder Woman just has a little extra because of her lineage.

Yeah, I agree that she seem rather skinny for a character whose body should be buffer because of the physical training and abilities she has. Having said that, it's not like a skinny person can't put up a serious fight, just watch any fight with Michelle Yeoh and you'll see the amazing shit you can see in the big screen and that's what I'm not getting from Gadot, I don't know if she cannot fight, or the fighting choreographies are not well directed, but as a first impression it's kinda meh. Still, it's a long way until 2017 and a lot can change in that time,

Calm yo tits, the movie is 17 MONTHS AWAY and this footage is a glorified B-roll so consider yourself lucky and wait for the real deal during SDCC in July.

The red/white/blue thing was for the Amazon's to honor the US,
But since its part of her iconic look you can't really drop it when you do a different backstory.
Thats basically why everything is so toned down, so that those elements of her costume stay but aren't looking so much out of place.

I don't think we're ever going to find out why Gal Gadot was cast in the first place. I also wonder if we're actually going to hear her speak before BvS is released.

Am I missing something? I know that superheroes ate put under the silliest and most bizarre of scrutinies. But I flat out don't understand this one. Why is her riding a horse somehow bad? Because she can fly? I mean, yeah, but have you ever ridden a horse? They're awesome. My being able to fly wouldn't stop me from riding a horse.
I still don't understand how WW gaining the power of flight is in any way believable, even under comic book conventions. She's an Amazonian princess. Hercules type strength bestowed upon the gods? Sure. Immortality by drinking the water from the fountain of eternal youth? Okay. Wielding indestructible bracers and a mind-controlling lasso? Great. Power of flight? That's bullshit man. Why not just give her heat vision and call her Super Woman at this point? Why even have Hawkgirl/man in the League at all?

So, yeah, I don't think WW is going to be able to fly in the DCCU.

...You can't be serious.

I said this in Reddit and I'll say it here. Granted its only a month's worth of footage, but this is what I was worried about with the movie. She looks way to feminine when she fights. My favorite version of Diana is in Batman/Superman: Apocalypse. Wonder Woman is supposed to look like Gal Gadot, but have the attitude of Ronda Rousey.
