Serkan Toto Rumor: Bandai Namco making several NX games, including a Smash for launch

Is anyone here actually expecting more Smash installments after Smash 4? Quite frankly I'm satisfied with the series and if all NX gets in its lifespan is a complete version of Wii U+3DS I'm totally fine with that. Series deserves to rest for a while, especially with how new Smash 4 still feels with all the updates.

Smash NX might end up running updates for years and start selling items like hats instead of sequels, is there a prcedent for such a thing?

It certainly sets the stage for Smash updates and features going forward

Id have to Imagine they will push content beyond the scope of the WiiU title and effectively make it a "sequel" over time with updates

That's the problem, I'm not sure if they'll alter the game significantly without Sakurai. Maybe with Smash 5 they can get a new director, but it'd be weird to make that transition now.

SAKURAI teases that he might have a new project so it's possible that he's in.

Let not being party pooper just once :)

Platinum Stars? Or better yet, a new 876 game. I mean, we all know what Bamco's biggest IP is!
And while they're at it, a little bit of cross-promotion would be the perfect chance to bring Bamco back up to character parity with Capcom and Sega in Smash!

But they don't change their move set to something else entirely... which is what that poster wants.

Balance patching is entirely different from changing a character's move set with completely new animations and new stats just because.

They dont change movesets between TITLES most of the time lol

Last I checked most characters still have the same damn moves

My guess is that all the content is in one package and that's it. A straight port. Doubt there will be new graphical features, and the game already runs at 1080/60 on WiiU.

They can't do Smash 5 in 9 months without tons of cuts.

Yeah the only way you could have Smash 5 is if you're launching it as a barebones platform with tons of free updates (or an f2p game all together), though given how Smash is selling, that feels like an odd transition.

Would be insanely amazing if the 3DS exclusive stages make it to the NX version. Obviously would require a complete asset re-do, but if they've been working on it since launch, they can easily have done it.
Ehh, reused 3DS stages without asset changes aren't going to stick out too much when there are already N64/GCN/Wii stages in there.

I really hope they go for Orange.

Orange hasn't had a bad history with game branding

I just wonder if they could pull it off with game cases and an appealing looking console. I suppose 3DS did the red theme with subtlety. Green and Blue are currently being used by Xbox One and PS4 so they're probably avoiding those to stick out from the competition.

I for one see nothing wrong with porting the best Wii U titles over to supplement the new software. A triple pack of Captain Toad, Yoshis Wooly World and the Kirby game would do me :)

Melee was about 3 years after 64. Sakurai said it took only 13 months to make? But I think that was HORRIBLE for him IIRC.

They'd honestly have less than 9 months, given the way releasing and distribution works. And following up Smash 4 is going to take way more time and manpower than following up 64 to Melee, even with a lot of cuts

Makes sense. Makes me wonder about that 60fps Wonderful 101 trailer that came out the other day, though that's probably nothing.

I think that would be a really bad move by Nintendo, given that aside from the niche competitive community for melee, the vast majority of potential consumers would see Melee as a downgrade

I'm by no means a Melee only guy, I prefer Smash 4, but to the general public, Smash 4's new characters don't really bring much since people don't know who they are. Random casual gamer doesn't know who Shulk, Pit, Palutena, Lucina, or Bayonetta are. The lack of Ryu/Cloud would be the biggest negative in this regard.

Melee HD would also give a version that could actually be played on HDTVs without issue and just introduce more copies into the world, since my Melee copy is super worn and used versions are pretty pricey now.

I agree Smash 4 NX is most likely, but I'm a bit tired of that train and don't want NX's one smash to be a port.

I'll throw a curve ball here and speculate differently that the Smash is a "new" game rather than a simple remaster of the Wii U version.

New as in an upgraded version of Smash for Wii U, with the assets and codes from Smash Wii U being re-used but with some different content such as a character inclusion that was not possible before (Ice Climbers), some tweaks for balancing characters and stages, additional stages, and possibly game modes that would be different from Smash Wii U. If Bamco is the one handling this again, it's more or less possible to have it in a much shorter time cycle since the team, experience and assets are already there, plus if the Wii U architecture will be absorbed by the NX, then coding translation would be much smoother than reworking everything from scratch again, just like every iteration of Smash.

This is a possibility, though my chances of it being wrong is probably higher than Smash being a simple remaster with all the DLC included.

Yup.

You think this would pretty much confirm that the NX won't be BC?

Thats what it is looking like

They are making the right call though. Time to cut the cord to the old way of handling themselves in the new digital world

Oh for sure

Its carrying Smash over to NX as a Platform. Not just a Numbered game

And thats basically how they have been treating the game, as well as MK8 and Mario Maker, since launch

A lot of fighting games are going for the platform approach KI, Dissidia, Pokken, and SFV. I could see Smash 5 going that route because it would allow Nintendo/Sakurai to get the next full Smash game out sooner then expected and build up the roster over the life of the NX. I fully expect this'll just be smash 4 nx port though with Smash 5 base a year or two out.

Complete edition for launch window with all the modes/dlc characters from the Wii U/3DS version, and possibly a few extra? Why not, we ain't gonna see SSB5 anytime soon.

Just remember my offline tournaments Sakurai, or i won't buy it.

Seriously why do people say Mario Maker isn't possible without a touchscreen? LBP used a controller and look at the complex shit people came up with. Its a tile based creation tool. The d-pad and a few shortcut buttons is all you need. Touch screen is not necessary.

An eventual Melee VC game is definitely possible eventually, but I'd be very surprised to see them ever try to sell Melee as a full priced retail title or anything like that ever again
