Somebody call VH1: "The Fine Bros" are trying to trademark "reaction videos"

Saw this on Reddit. Remember how they said "We are not going after/shutting down/sueing anyone who makes reaction based content."? Ellen did a reaction video on her show last year, and they lost it, saying it's their format she's stealing.

There was a TV show on in the 90s full of people doing stunts, and had celebs in-studio solely to react to what was going on. Plus David Letterman did "kids reacting to..." for decades.

Ugh, these guys are full of themselves.

Sidecomment: The fuck is up with that facebook font? Someone actually chose that on purpose to use?

Well there it is. That's pretty damning.
Even as a fan of their style of content, I find their arrogance about their format pretty disgusting. They didn't invent that shit. They just made it popular on YT. Fuck off Fine Bros.

This screenshot is likely from a while ago, judging from the notification bar. Probably a result of the skin on a cheap Android phone.

I'm confused. That Ellen video was her sitting with kids and showing them old technology, nothing else towards it. I don't watch much Fine Bros but I thought their entire shtick was showing people of any ages videos and not much else? Ellen showed young kids something old, not much else to it.

Yep, exactly. They claimed that they wouldn't go after anyone unless they were using their format or titles. This was vague enough that people were still suspicious, wanting to know what they would consider their format.

Now we know that it's broad enough to include that Ellen video, which seems to pretty much vindicate everyone who thought this was shady.

There's really only three outcomes to this:

1) They give a shitty apology and people move on, their viewership takes virtually no damage because I'm assuming most of their audience doesn't know or care about this, they just want to get in some low brow chuckles and move on to other YouTube Poop.
2) Their channel collapses. This is unlikely to happen unless YouTube literally closed it or something, which there is no precedent for.
3) They come out and go THE WORLD REACTS! You've all been part of the biggest React of all time! Thank you so much for being part of it! It was all one big prank!

The finebros also show kids old technology etc. but I don't think they ever interact as much with the kids as Ellen in that video.

It still seems like a forced enough connection. This was just a one-off, from what I can research Ellen hasn't done anymore react videos, if you could even call what she did a react video. Seemed like the guys got worked up over nothing. As mentioned already on this thread they didn't invent the idea of reacting to things, they just made it big on the internet.

If it turns out they are just trademarking "Kids/Elders/Teens React", then fine, although that still sounds pretty shitty since they clearly don't have any competition. These guys, according to Wikipedia are the sixteenth most subscribed channel. Taking away Vevo channels, they're tenth (Ellen is number 15, maybe that's why they're pissed). But if they are actually trying to take over a majority of react videos as a whole, then that's just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

That Facebook post is not recent, it came after they made a video of Kids reacting to old tecnhology, then Ellen made one. They were not wrong about spamming Ellen Facebook but there was noting about lawsuit related to that.

I Didn't know who the fine brothers Were until this all came out, seen some of their videos but their overacting people were never my cup of tea.

From reading all this though it's clear that the thought of joining the corporate elite was too much to resist and they have decided to fuck others over with some bullshit legal restrictions to increase their market share and profits.

This is the last thing youtube needs, it needs to stay away from this crap otherwise it will all go downhill.

Right, obviously. They didn't think up this whole franchise/trademark thing until much later. The point is that it shows what their mindset is as far as what they consider similar to and potentially infringing on their videos.

"Copyrighted content was found in your video".

Some guy got his reaction to Finebros video blocked on grounds of copyrighted content. The video had only 8 views before it was blocked by Fine bros' reps. Here's his reaction to the reaction of the reaction (Reaction-ception).

That's really odd as wouldnt this be a case of fair use? Still a bad move from finebro

Would be so good if the Seniors React guy takes on Fine Bros in court.

Though ideally after they have uploaded Fine Bros React to Lost Sponsorships.

These react video's are fucking stupid and there rampant popularity are a testimony the idocracy of modern internet culture. Sorry, a bt harsh, but these really make me mad for whatever reason.

For people who hate reaction videos, you are not forced to watch them.

Also YouTube did this to themselves with their retarded democratic flagging system that invites abuse.

That Ellen incident really shows how egocentric and delusional these guys are. I'm happy they are facing backlash over this, sounds to me like they have been living in their own bubble for too long and are absolutely tone deaf.

Again just because Ellen did the same thing doesn't mean that the Fine Bros are entitled to after her as you can not copyright the reaction format.

Furthermore She didn't use any of their reaction format and just did her own style, the fine bro were spamming her facebook because they are arrogant.

This is why I always do that kind of video talking into a camera

That way if they even consider trying to pull down the video, I can call up my youtube rep and get that shit put back up.

Maybe this was before they decided that they only want to go after people ripping off their format or whatever, but the Ellen bit is different enough (a focus on comedy from Ellen rather than reactions from kids) from their own "kids react to old technology" that I feel like they'd be okay with it, other than the fact that they don't get any publicity because Ellen is on TV.

I really want to know who the heck is actually ripping of the Fine Bros format, because theirs is so specific. Or maybe they really are just greedy jerks.
