The plaza ticket challenge is for all 160 fish including the rares, so yes. But they're not completely random:

  • Every 10th streetpass will reliably produce a rare fish sighting. This appears to obey a fixed rotation based on the specific number of passes you have with that person.
  • If another angler you pass has recently fished or attempted to fish a rare, it will be shared with you.
These are the two reliable methods I used to get all 160. Currently working on A+ing them.
 
After almost five years of 3DS ownership (Bought in June 2011) I finally hit 1000 unique streetpasses this week and unlocked the final music track for the plaza.

I'm kinda proud of myself, especially since I never cheated via homepass. :P

Thanks for the clarification! This is going to take while, I'll make sure to always have a good bait variety with me.
 
Speaking of the rare fish... I was literally ONE second away from getting one last week. No joke, 1 second, and it ran away :/

Now remember if you want to freely select any of the previous music tracks... you have to buy the Plaza upgrade :(

It is pretty fun collecting Mii birthdays admittedly
 
Do your statistics carry over to a new game once you beat Monster Manor? There's no way I'm going to complete all the puzzles before I finish the game. I don't want to have to do them all over again for the plaza ticket.

All the statistics needed for plaza tickets carries over.

I was really disappointed with the game+. I thought I would get to fill up all the rooms. I've left it at the peaceful start screen since.

I should've filled up the last room before fighting the first last boss. I made good progress and decided to go fight the boss for some reason. Now I'm in NG+ and can't go back :/ Well, as long as I get the last 15 puzzle boxes or however many I have left over. Too bad I won't be able to make my own accomplishment of filling up all the rooms. The last one was the only unfilled room, too :/
 
3/8 out of passes today had Hatsune Miku as their last played game.

I dread to think what kind of sordid society I walked past.

I don't think that is true. I can't recall meeting someone who played MK7 or NSMB but I still got some Blooper & Cheep Cheep sightings.

I still fish them because I'm trying to fill two tanks with just Bloopers and Cheep Cheeps.
 
Just played Ultimate Angler and I got a Blooper and a Cheep Cheep sighting. The person whose last game was Triforce Heroes saw the Blooper and the other player (Cheep Cheep) played Pokemon Shuffle.
 
My 3DS often freezes while I'm walking on Oxford Street.

Bummer in terms of streetpasses and counting my gargantuan number of steps.

That's not so weird. I remember it used to go from a specific date for a full year. It might just have been November 21st to November 20th.

To me it looks like streetpass relays might get discontinued. The wording on the timeline does sound pretty final: "Up until March 31st".
 
So, a friend of mine got a rather serious StreetPass problem:

Her N3DS froze/crashed during standby. When she came back home it was powered off with the user settings set to default (date & time). From that point onward her N3DS is unable to connect with her older 3DS via StreetPass. Local and online multiplayer is working fine and the internet/StreetPass icon in the top left corner is popping up as usual. StreetPass via Nintendo Zone is also working fine.

She already tried the troubleshooting guide at the NoA website without any success: http://en-americas-support.nintendo...19/~/streetpass-communication-troubleshooting

Any ideas?

Disable and enable all the streetpass entries / delete and redownload software.

Yeah I'm only missing like a couple birthdays per month. Some months I still need only one to complete, but nothing yet. Need to go to another big event/con/etc. Still surprised I even got leap year!
 
Capped fishing money at 999,999 then promptly blew nearly 800,000 of it switching my 8+ Anglers Big-Catch Boost to a 6+ Anglers Big-Catch Boost because what else was I going to do with it

Anguilla has a population of ~13,000. It is possible, someone from Anguilla is importing 3DSes to sell locally and there is a population that travels that you could meet at an airport.

But I'll wager its more likely that Anguilla shows up in Streetpasses so much is that the country happens to be first alphabetically on that screen.

Heck, I could Streetpass someone at the nearest McDonalds in St Marteen (next island over) and I wouldn't believe they were actually from Anguilla.

Yeah when I heard about the first country on the list thing, it made sense. I'm sure everytime I go to SFO that it's the same person working there, anyways :p Would make at least more sense in a Florida airport, since they do get a lot more traffic from the Caribbean there. (Didn't think the country was THAT small either, so chances of 3DSs even being in that country seems pretty slim...)
 
I finally beat ultimate angler, well no beat beat but got the medal and hat! I'll be donning that visor for a while lol
 
I very rarely get any passes. I've got less than ten total. But last week I got one without leaving the apartment. I think it could have been someone visiting one of my neighbours.

It made me pretty happy, but now I'm wondering who this mysterious benefactor was.
 
Any advice on getting a particular fish in Ultimate Angler?

I'm trying to get A for each fish. I'm having trouble with Little DragonFish. I keep getting Japanese Bullhead Shark or Scalloped Hammerhead. As you can see, it doesn't have any unique colors that I could use.

I wonder if my rod that is +6 Big Fish might be hurting in this case?

There was another time (for a different fish) that I tried the Mix Bait approach of picking two colors that were only for this one fish. I still got the fish that only liked 1 of the colors.

I guess it's a matter of luck and I have to keep trying.

I'm pretty sure various Mario games actually work. Not sure which ones bring what fish though.
 
Nice! I finally ran into a February 29th birthday. Good timing too since we're a few days away from a 2/29.
Still have a lot of birthdays left though (102), and I still haven't gotten my own birthday (or complete a month)
 
I've been trying to get one of the mystery fish for a LONG time. However, the bait needed is similar to the common fish so I keep getting a million of those (the snakehead something or rather one). I DID land the fish ones... but I was literally ONE SECOND away from reeling it in, when my line broke :( One day...

Yeah, it's a slow, slow process unless you fake it by having an extra 3DS, setting up a dummy account with the missing birthday, and then streetpassing them. I haven't gotten that desperate, yet, but I've considered it! :lol
 
I'm actually down to only one birthday remaining. Apparently no one was born on October 22.

No cheating at all from my end, though I can't guarantee everyone I passed was honest about when they were born.
