GameSpot: FE Fates will have face rubbing under certain conditions in the West

Yep, the saga continues. It sounds like the face petting minigame is still there for the Western release of Fire Emblem Fates but only for units that have S-Supports and/or potentially A+ supports with Corrin.

Confirmed here: https://youtu.be/OQ6c2e-3wTY?t=2580

If the video doesn't jump to where they talk about it, it's around 43:00 where they mention it.

Hey, this was what the JP devs were originally planning to do with the feature, but changed it to 'everyone' when they felt that the assets won't be used enough. :p

I never understood why this was even controversial in the first place. Seems like a stupid thing you'd joke about rather than find creepy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Still creepy and out of place but at least it kind of makes sense when it's just the player inserts love interest?

...no, still just weird for a tactics game.

Lmao what

was that Kotaku article just full of shit?

No. It was Kotaku giving incomplete information without confirmation.

The mechanic has been changed such that the skinship is removed for everything but S/A+ - Supports. So it was half-information.

How she said it makes me think it's only for that one "wake up" event where you tap your spouse to wake them up, but I guess we'll see lol

I can't stop laughing. Send help.

I also thought it sounds limited to the "wake-up" thing but in general, this has been nonsensical.

There was a point where this clearly needed to stop, and we have past it.
But let's keep going anyway!

I doubt A+ supports enable the minigame. A+ is not the same as S rank. It's more like a super BFF rank that allows class sharing. (and doesn't have a convo)

It can also be with A+ supports as well?

Considering what A+ supports are, I doubt it.

Kotaku said this

While the English version of Fates still includes many relationship-building activities by way of robust castle functionality, Nintendo confirmed to me that petting is 100 percent out. It’s unfortunate, given that moments of physical intimacy are so rare in games, especially as a means of building character relationships. The rep explained, defending the original intent of the Japanese version:

“Yes, that is the case [that petting isn’t in the English version]. You might have heard somewhat misinterpreted or exaggerated information about the Japanese original game, but even in the Japanese original version, we have not included any features which are considered inappropriate in Japan.”

That's not half-information. It's just wrong

I approve. But this tells me, I am only allowed to pet my wife/husband and if I do it to really close friends it's weird. I am not sure if that is any better.

Must be wrong.

But I'm sure there are some excited over the thought of rubbing one out all over their faces.

........

WAIT

I mean, S/A+ are the same thing.

Isn't A+ the same-sex maximum rank?

No, A+ is not the same sex maximum rank. Same sex pairings are also S rank.

A+ rank is just a bonus thing without a conversation that allows the units to reclass into their A+ buddy's class, it doesn't even have a conversation with it. (At least, in the Japanese version, I assume the same for international.)

I think I have read about 4 different news on this subject.

It's funny how Nintendo never stepped in to clear all the confusion and misinformation. They really don't give a fuck.

The reverse salt is going to be insane. Nobody had S supported yet so nobody knew for sure. Not like this will actually be controversial. I already said the game would probaby receive a (very hard) T regardless.

I'm ok with this.

I'd rather have had the absurdity of rubbing the faces of every character admittedly, but this at least sort of makes some sense.
