I'm unsure of this, but are these games then cross compatible for multiplayer? For example, do the xbox and pc Gears of Wars gamers play on the same servers?
What xbox one "only" games that eventually went to pc are there? Are there examples of cross play already?
I secretly wish every game would do this already. I'm being torn apart from friends picking sides with The Division.

I could see Xbox One being the last home console Microsoft do. Sony have killed it this gen (so far), combine this with a surge in PC gaming over the last few years and you have a console that both has little to offer exclusive wise (relatively speaking) and future titles seem to plan on coming out on PC anyway. A PS4+PC household seems more and more like the way to go.
Scalebound, Gears 4, Quantum Break - if they all come to the PC, I don't see what reason people like me (and I'd dare say the majority of others) who own PS4's and PC's have to invest in an Xbox One. It's a fine console, don't get me wrong, but I'm finding it harder and harder to see the appeal. People who don't own PC's powerful enough to run the latest games I think will be more likely to upgrade it and play these titles at a much higher visual fidelity than to buy a new Microsoft console.
I think ultimately that by Microsoft unifying their gaming division, they might inadvertently kill off it's already failing system (compared to it's main competitor at least)
Of course, I could be very wrong - but that's just my viewpoint. At the end of the day, so long as gamers have easier access to good games, regardless of platform, we'll always be the winner.

Microsoft Corp. will not back down even if the launch of its Xbox 360 video game console fails to propel it to first place in the $25 billion global market, Chairman Bill Gates said on Monday.
"We'll play again," Gates told Reuters in a telephone interview ahead of the Xbox 360 launch on Tuesday.
"We learned a lot in the first round. We've got a chance not just to have higher market share, but also to grow the size of this market substantially," Gates said.
Gates only promised one after 360.. I know this was 10 years ago but it looks like they are moving to a unified platform.

I am fine with this.. as i am playing tomb raider @4k right now...
I don't think they are that willing to jump out of the console market; the X1 isn't selling Wii U levels, so its not like they are being 'forced' into doing this or anything.
I see it more as MS trying to ensure the PC is supported just as much as the X1, considering they make Windows. They want there OS in everyone's homes (further cemented with Windows 10 being free for many), so putting games that support that OS is not shocking.
I'm more interested in how the PC versions will interact with the console versions then anything else. If cross-platform play is supported for major online shooters like Gears 4, then they have a big leg up over Sony, who doesn't really push this outside some specific exceptions (I think....DCU Online does this?).
I do agree that I can picture a world without a new Xbox in the next five-six years if this continues. But considering they could partner with Steam and make Xbox-branded Steam Machines, they could still get the console sales if they want to

You know, when I first read this I thought it was ridiculous... But you actually may be right. It'd be crazy if MS went from the success of Xbox 360 to completely out of the console market in one generation, but I really think it may be possible.

Won't change anything as long as Nadella become CEO.
It would depend on if the devs want it to be cross-play more than anything, as both version will most likely used MS' Azure Servers. From a PvP side, It'll probably come down to if they can balance KB&M with controllers, to were it's fair for both. PvE side should be doable without much hassle.

If Xbox One was as successful as the PS4 - not impossible considering how popular 360 was and how many 360 people switched to PS4 - it could very well have changed things.

Guess MS is trying to get out of the hardware business, there strategy is working especially looking at comments and threads like "I'm selling my Xbox one" or "there are less and less reasons to have an Xbox one". Not my console of choice but I don't want Sony getting lazy with less competition when MS fails to move units because of those. Look at any pc centric forum they are looking for any reason not to get a console anyway.

I'm getting tired of bad ports, but that's just some games, and they happen on consoles too (I'm just extra salty because of Mortal Kombat X). Otherwise? It's pretty freaking sweet :] It's getting exclusives from both consoles, lol.
I'd kind of imagine it is.
Gears is one of those prime series like Halo that I imagine MS is more protective about while games like ReCore and Scalebound are somewhat unproven, niche games that might not perform that well with the usual Xbox target audience.
That and Scalebound had a delay to 2017. Who knows, maybe it was delayed to help develop the port.

It won't, in fact if it sold like PS4 they may port it even faster because it doesn't matter anymore since mainstream people will think console=XB1(right now is =PS4 of course), people will buy it no matter how many games ported to PC.

lol im gonna go out on a limb here and say the majority around here have a pc with better specs than an xbone ... this is definitely one of the dumbest decisions from them so far
