Report: WB is worried about ‘Batman v Superman’, but not because of its quality

WB never said this, and the original source of this report never said the Marvel movies are dumb and that BvS has a deep story.

Don't see the point of this thread other than people acting stupid.

Non story.

Here's the actual quote from batman-on-film
Honestly, I can’t call BS on this report as I know – based on the folks I’ve talked to who have knowledge of the situation – that Warner Bros. is indeed concerned about how BvS will be received by audiences; and thus, how it will perform at the box office. Personally, I think the right term to use is “nervous” as opposed to “worried”. With so much riding on BvS, it’s only natural for the studio to be, well, nervous.

I can also say that I know some people who have seen the film and they raved about it – which apparently is the opposite of what Mr. McWeeny has heard based on his comments in the video. Keep in mind that while BvS is a comic book-based film with superheroes, it isn’t “popcorn fluff”, if you will. Maybe Warner is nervous how the mainstream audience will react to such a film that’s frankly diametrically different from what Marvel (as it should be) is doing with their cinematic universe.

Jett (BOF) doesn't know much here, he was just responding to McWeeny's speculation, and put out more guesswork of his own.

lol

I don't know about this reason, but like I said in the last thread, I wouldn't be surprised if the executives were nervous about how their (rumored) 400 million budget film was going to be received, especially after WB's 2015 output.

I do think a dramatic super hero film is harder to sell than a comedy one, because it relies on making an emotional connection rather than a comedic one. I got the impression the movie would be playing it safer than Man of Steel was.

Judging by Man of Steel, it's prob gonna be a movie that tries to take itself too seriously to attempt to shy away from superhero tropes only to end up being more cheesy because of it.

Might be good, might be flaming wreckage but god damn I just want this movie to come out. It might be able to replace those Man of Steel referendum threads we get every two months. Freshen the discourse up a bit.

First of all, this is a report on another site's opinion piece of a comment made by yet another site about something WB allegedly said. What the heck.

Secondly, there's nothing in said opinion piece that even said anything close to "deep story written by an Oscar winner".

This is a very weird article.

For real, in said opinion piece this is the crucial bit of information

No note about "Oscar winning writer" at all. Just that it would be very different from the Marvel films.

Please update the OP.

Man of Steel took itself too seriously? Was Zod giving Shakespearian monologues or something? What are you talking about?

Secondly, there's nothing in said opinion piece that even said anything close to "too deep for audiences, written by Oscar winner".

This is a very weird article.

All the speculation about this film goes to weird places. That Hitflix stuff took "execs are worried to mean "they're going to torch all their plans and run."

Both conclusions are equally ridiculous, based on total guesswork. But people are treating the musings of random internet commentators as gospel, hearing what they want to, dismissing what they don't.

"BOF speculates that the mainstream audience is used to the “popcorn” movies that Marvel produces, and won’t respond well to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s deep story that was written by an Oscar winner."

Oh my lord this slayed me...

So far the Story looks like a Avengers type story

Villain makes Heros fight each other, but they unite as soon as a much bigger threat appears, that is much bigger than their conflict

oh and Wonderwoman saves the day, because she is there for some reason, thats probably the deep part

Preposterous.

Batman-News is usually good too. I don't know what's the deal with this article.

Did it for the clicks, I guess.

EDIT: Wait, that's not actually in the report?

Let's be honest, even if this WASN'T just speculation, it's not like it's them being all "Oh, the public won't get it because it's too well written."

We all know a lot of movie execs are pretty dumb. Most of them end up falling upwards. All you need is someone like Tom Rothman in a position of power thinking that the movie isn't dumbed down enough and you end up with this situation. Especially considering how complex this movie seems to be with all the cameos and "plot twists".

Alright, you guys have pushed me passed my skepticism to the point where I'm going to be rooting for this movie not because I think it'll be as good as I want it to be but because the amount of crow to be had would be monumental.

The amount of crow eating would be EPIC.

Of course they are worried that Wonder Woman will steal the movie because she is the best character there and *

*reads the article*

LOL

Everything was all fine and dandy over at WB until THOSE thoughts started creeping into their head... "What if it isn't as big as the Deadpool movie".
