Persona 4: Dancing All Night is awful

I'm genuinely surprised they didn't get more backlash for the gay caricature. I think mine was the only review that mentioned it.

As a rhythm game, it's okay. Fairly innovative, but by and large way too easy, and lacking in content(and good music).

The story is the worst kind of nonsensical.

Considering anime fans are Trump supporters, I don't think they'd get incensed about caricatures.

You weren't. ;)

And why in god's name would I go to a rhythm game for its story? That's even worse to me than wanting fighting games for their story modes. Plus, everything outside of the original P4 is garbage and worth ignoring anyhow because Atlus keeps insisting that it all has to be canon.

As a music/rhythm game, I don't know, I had a lot of fun with it. I think the gameplay is fun (much better than Superbeat XONIC which a lot of people recently liked and I don't understand why), and I was surprised at how much I thought the Persona music actually worked with the idea. Plus, visuals are fantastic.

There's serious music/rhythm games and then the goofy side-project music/rhythm games, and as part of the latter category, I thought P4D was a really nice surprise. *shrugs*

Are we playing the same Superbeat Xonic? The game is much more interesting from a mechanical standpoint than anything in P4DAN. It's a much better "serious" rhythm game.

It's also no frills, straight to the hardcore. That's my cup of tea, but probably not everyone's.

Are you all deaf? This is a rythm game

Yes. Exactly. And that's why I skipped Dancing All Night despite buying P4U and P4U2. Maybe if they had a "no rhythm game" mode for the story, I'd buy it cheap to go through. But until then~

I don't know. I don't necessarily have a problem with them introducing new characters and making them "canon" in the story/world. But goddamn do they need to not make
Adachi escaping jail to do P4U/P4U2
canon. They don't need to story mode explain that and if they do just make that a non-canon parody while allowing their inclusion in the game as fan service.

Is there anywhere to listen to the story mode songs?

In particular:
The story menu song.
The song that's a bit like P4 Deduction when people are hanging out talking.
Ochimiru's theme.

This being a rhythm game makes it hell trying to find any of the non dance songs.
Maybe this is better for the OT...

The entire OST is on youtube, and I think you mean this for the menu song(also my favorite track) :

SMTIV's composer did it, and it shows. Man has skills.

What the hell? With those "I can do this" clips this is straight up embarrassing. How is it this bad? Couldn't they have just copied and pasted Persona onto Projecf Diva? Damn.

I thought the Project Diva team was supposed to be working on this way early on, was that just a rumor or did something happen

It wasn't a rumor, Dingo was developing it, then they parted ways and Atlus took over.

Are there any rumors as to why Dingo walked out? Seems odd to essentially start the game over from scratch.

Also surprised that they couldn't get Sega's internal Project Diva team to help out. Wasn't there some other Project Diva reskin game that came out recently?

Atlus only really has experience making a pretty specific type of game; it's not surprising that a video game made by them would turn out this way. Which is why giving it to someone with more experience makes sense.

Yup, we are. I've played plenty of "no frills" rhythm games, and I just don't get the appeal of XONIC.

I am glad other people noticed the rhythm is way off in the game. I feel like I was just pushing buttons while good music was playing.

I tried this one with a borrowed Vita because I love Persona 4 and his music so much and didnt even bothered to finish it. Such an awfull and weird game.

Theatrythm Final Fantasy remains unbothered.

Now that I think about it, there probably would have been a huge shitstorm if P4D didn't ship with a story mode and only had free play.

So the outrage about SFV makes sense, despite the story not being the best in that franchise.

I wonder what happened. Damn shame, the game would have probably ended up actually good if that had been the case.

Eh, Dingo's recent efforts haven't earned much praise. Their Love Live Vita rhythm game was awful from what I read, and they haven't worked on a Project Diva game since Extend in 2011.

I went in thinking it was going to be trash, but I really enjoyed it. Sure the story was a little repetitive, but the characterization was pretty good, gameplay was fun, and the music & 3D models were solid. Oh and it had Ochimizu.

Ochimizu is actually perfect.

as a rhythm gaming fanatic, this game never really grabbed me, the layout is way too messy. Should have just copied project diva and called it a day.

I would have very much disliked it if the game had done that. If you think P4D's layout is messy, what do you think of Superbeat Xonic?

superbeat xonic presents its notes in a way where they are widely visible. And the last time I played it I think it runs at 60 fps? Correct me if i'm wrong. Playing Persona 4 Dancing all night on harder difficulties and Superbeat Xonic is a night and day difference.

That and I have beef with the beatmaps, they are not consistent, therefore making it irritating because what you are predicting is contrary to what they will inevitably change it to. And don't get me started with the rating system, that fails you if you are not maintaining like a 95% average hit notes. Bleh, thinking about it pisses me off because I want to like it so much.

Okay let's just classify people based on their hobbies

OK then

Yeah, there was a statement made on one of the News channels that Trump supporters on the internet were the type found in their mom's basement watching anime.

Off-Topic - nice name/Avatar.

Edit: Beaten

I guess I just never found P4D's layout distracting as some. There's the option to dim the background if the notes are hard to follow, but I never needed to do that.

I don't know about the framerate, though. To me, the night and day difference between the games comes from the difficulty itself, and not the UI.
