With the new account system there is no longer an excuse. SNES games already owned on Wii U should be playable on n3DS if they are bringing them over. And going forward buying the game in either place should also let you play that game on the other system.

Cloud saving should be a thing too but I'll let them wait for NX for that one if they want to bring out the excuses.

But there is no excuse any longer for lack of cross buy. It needs to be there. Don't fleece people another $10 for Earthbound on n3DS if they already bought it on Wii U. It should not happen. And people shouldn't support that.

snes on 3ds is something that people have been wanting for ages

MH fans were saddened by waiting an extra year or more because only 4g left japan, not the regular version.

both of those things are stuff some people genuinely want quite badly.

If SNES games are announced as part of a tie-in with the new Nintendo Account system, and thus are shared across the 3DS, Wii U, and future Nintendo hardware, then that'd be something to be excited about, I have to say.

My theory:

This is just the stuff specific to Europe, dates and the like. Main presentation contains all the stuff that is common across continents, while the likes of Star Fox Zero/Federation Force/MH/Rio contain either Japanese VO's for the trailers (Devs mostly, which have subs instead of dubs), different dates or PEGI ratings. Which could mean different trailer files (as these are folders instead of video clips) then either Japan or US. SNES on 3DS may have different software at launch, like perhaps Super Picross or some other game.

I feel that the real gems are hidden in either the "_wip" or "Main Presentation" folders.

Nah. I don't buy the SNES to n3DS thing. It doesn't make much sense to me. Why would they do this so late in the 3DS' lifetime? There are only two logical explanations.

A) The n3DS isn't going to be replaced by new hardware soon

or

B) They're finally going to allow cross-buy.

This is what I think too.

the new account connection would be the best explanation for adding support for a new vc platform so late in the generation in my eyes, but "adding value to the hardware upgrade" is an ok-ish explanation so i'm not viewing the cooler explanation as a lock.

I have low expectations, I can't imagine any megatons to get me real excited. It would be nice of them to show off Zelda WiiU.

I don't care much for Star Fox Zero, that's pretty much what they have left for Wii U.

I'm excited they're having a Direct, but I can't imagine anything is going to go over the top and wow me.

I would love SNES emulation for my 3DS especially if it means games like Super Metroid, SMW, and Earthbound. Although I won't support those games if they're going to make me pay for them AGAIN.

Man I'm kinda glad that the contents of this Direct got leaked (supposedly), even I would have been disappointed by this if I was the least bit hyped beforehand. Idk, maybe there's still more beyond what we now know but I don't want to get my hopes up.

SNES VC on n3DS would have been really cool back when the revision launched but now it feels kinda long in the tooth for it to really excite me, especially when the 3DS is almost definitely getting a successor in less than a year. Plus, with how much they love to dripfeed VC I wouldn't be at all surprised if we only ever see 10 or 15 SNES games hit the service before they stop releasing them altogether, in the west anyway. I think the only way I'd be excited is if they introduce cross buy and I can play all my WiiU SNES VC games on the go, but there's virtually a 0% chance of that happening.

I guess I'd rebuy Earthbound if they put it on n3DS :|

Given inferences based on past investor meetings as well as the substantiated speculation on the NX, I'd be surprised if cross-buy/play was not a major point of the NX. That seems to be the point of "dual factor" hardware.

But cross-buy has been done a couple of times in special cases on 3DS/U. I highly doubt they'll bother to make it the norm on 3DS/U, though.

It still makes sense. There's still a good number of N3DS users worldwide that will potentially buy SNES VC games, especially if Nintendo makes it tied to the account for possible re-use/cross-buy to future devices like NX or current devices like Wii U. It's just a matter of execution at this point.
