Like the only thing I noticed about that trailer is that Winston is barely shown and doesn't even get credit at the end. O.o

Watch the movie again. It's pretty accurate. Hudson does wonders with what little material they gave him but screen time wise he got fucked over

Well, unfortunately this looks rather disappointing.

The eye-popping visuals and the tech bother me more than anything in it. Everything glows and there's crazy pop-out ghost pistols and shit. The whole joke about the proton packs in the original is that they are cobbled together, illegal, insanely dangerous pieces of equipment made to produce an absurd amount of power in a portable form. Having that kind of power in a pistol breaks the whole illusion for me.

Oh well.

I'll probably see it eventually, but not in theaters in it's current form.

That was pretty awful.
Ghosts look terrible and not scary, almost cartoonish.
Wasn't funny at all.
Pretty much shoved every actress into an archetype immediately.

I mean, come on, the iconic monsters from the original films are a chubby glutton green slime that was marketed the hell out to kids and a gigantic marshmellow man, they have always being cartoony.

I remember the poster and the VHS boxes not even having him. Just the three white guys, holding proton packs, staring up.

The old Ghostbusters game (where you drove around and had a ghost vacuum) only had three 'Busters too. (At least the Apple IIe version I played)

Compared to most comedies nowadays? It absolutely is. It's pretty damn dry and doesn't have a whole lot of people screaming, vomiting, or slapping eachother.

The biggest "character" in Ghostbusters was Louis Tully.

The original Ghostbusters had a blowjob ghost, lots of people getting slimed/thrown around/screaming a ton. And that's not counting all the silly colorful cartoon ghosts and stereotypical characters like the ones played by Weaver, Ramis, Potts and Moranis. Not understated at all. I mean, Bill Murray's performance could be described as dry and understated, but that's just Bill Murray in every role he ever did. He's just one part of the movie though.

That brings up a thought: I'm pretty sure they'd never have the balls to have a ghost eating pussy in the new movie. You could get away with that kind of stuff in family movies in the 80s, but not anymore.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the dickless joke coming back though.

It's in a weird position.

If the humour is different fans complain it's not like the original humour

If the humour is the same fans complain it's just ripping off the original and asking couldn't they do their own thing?

You can strike a balance of using the same comedic style and tone of the original films humor while still doing new comedic material. I'm sure older fans aren't asking for the film to somehow meet either extreme of being nothing like the originals and too much like the originals at the same time.

From what I've seen of the trailer, the new GB seems like it's doing the inverse. The style of comedy it has is broadly different to the 80s GB films and its been stated to be a continuity reboot, yet it is also looks to be lifting complete scenes and certain monsters directly from the original movie.

In light of that last bit, the new GB actually seems more like a remake of the original to me rather than a continuity reboot.

Predictably seeing all the "if you don't like it, you're SEXIST" crap roll out on social media from the hivemind. Tying you your politics and world view anchors to crap Hollywood reboots is never a good idea.
I mean, I didn't like the trailer that much but you would have to be foolish to not see that most of hate comes from sexism.

It's not all that different from the talent of the '80s that grew up in the '40s to '60s and based all of their work around live action serials,

I guess the primary difference is that people who grew up on Hawks/Wilder/Huston so on and so forth making variations on those sorts of films ends up looking a lot different than people who grew up on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Death of Superman making variations on that sorta stuff.

That's not to say you can't still make entertaining, enjoyable, good movies from that sort of source material, because you very obviously can (and I own a fair amount of it, ha) but there's definitely a pattern of taking juvenilia and simply trying to force it to be adult entertainment that wasn't as clearly pronounced in previous generations.

You could get away with that kind of stuff in family movies in the 80s

Ghostbusters was never a family movie, though. They weren't "getting away" with anything. They just decided to put a blowjob joke in their comedy.

Pixels Like/dislike ratio 87k/12k on 19 million views. You can't deny there's a strange pattern here when it's at 12k/16k on 200k views... The trailer wasn't that bad, hell freaking Gods of Egypt didn't have this kind of ratio.

Ok, that's actually a pretty good argument, since Pixels was obviously trash from the get go.

Actually, seeing how petty gamer gate is, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there might be a semi-organized anti-female ghostbusters movement.

You can dislike the trailer or the movie as much as you like, but lets not pretend there isn't a problem with some of the hate for this movie.

One of the top 3 comments on Youtube right now is "This sucks, not going to watch it, Ghostbusters are men, not women". I mean, that's one of the top voted comments...

This movie doesn't look "awful," but it's falling into the same trap a lot of reboots do....

They're borrowing from an almost-perfect movie. The cast, writing, directing, and time period are all perfect for the original. It's nearly untouchable since you won't be able to outdo the chemistry, writing, and directing of the original.

The best you can hope for is "ok but not as good as the original." Why studios greenlight these massive projects with such low ceilings is beyond me.

At least a sequel acknowledging the originals acknowledges you ain't gonna try and touch the original. That's why Force Awakens worked so well.

I forgot the part in the original where a million ghosts took over Times Square. Or when Rey got possessed.

It has nods but hardly a remake lol.

i might still watch it, but the quality of the movie felt a lot like it was from the team behind like Scary Movie 3 where they were just trying to pay tribute to ghost busters.

Ghostbusters was never a family movie, though. They weren't "getting away" with anything. They just decided to put a blowjob joke in their comedy.

I meant that as in: the definition of family movie has changed in those years. Movies like Back to the Future with it's incest storyline and Ghostbusters with the blowjob scene (or even stuff like James Bond) was seen as appropiate for much younger ages as it is now. People weren't so concerned about targeting as wide a net as possible without offending anyone as they are now. At least were I lived all those movies were considered perfectly acceptable movies for kids.

Doesn't negate my point that the new ghosts don't look scary and terribly designed.

I liked the trailer but I'm a bit mixed. The cast looks good, the visual effects look decent and seem to match what the original films went for but a lot of the jokes fell a bit flat for me. Really hoping this is good as I love me some Ghost Busters.

I've been listening to Ray Parker Jr's Ghostbusters song for the last half an hour just to get out of the cringe of that trailer. And crying.

I'm only half kidding.

I really like the look of the ghosts, and the everyone seem to be enjoying playing their roles, which is great. Trailer wasn't really funny to me though, which I found surprising given how much I liked Spy. Then again, I've learned long ago not to trust trailers to be too representative. I still think this movie will easily be better than GB2 at least. Talent is there to make it so.

I'll reiterate a more concise point from my original reply..

Force Awakens is how you do it.

This Ghostbusters is how you DONT do it.

It's definitely lot more serious in tone than Paul Feig's last few movies, but the comedy's seems to be the usual Melissa McCarthy fare.

The music is great, too. Hope that's actually part of the soundtrack and not just something for the trailer.

The dual pistol proton blaster was pretty cool.

Some moment look legit fun, especially Melissa McCarthy looks great for the movie. But the rest? The rest looks absolutely terrible. Bad CG, bad jokes, bad nostalgia catch at the start and did we really need an official dubstep remix of the Ghostbusters theme!?

I'm very, very, very, VERY cautiously optimistic about the film. It can just be a terrible trailer...
It probably isn't just the trailer though :(
