Search Google Images for Kristen Wiig and explain how she isn't a classic beauty lmao

They intentionally dress her down in almost every role she's in

There is absolutely a subsection of those down votes coming from sexist morons.

That's been clear since this movie was announced.

It's both.

There's some that are downvoting because they're sexist morons or raping childhoods and there's some upvoting because it's 4 women and it therefore has to be good.

I'd bet there's more people downvoting for that moronic reason than upvoting for the other reason, but there's definitely a group that just don't think it looks good yet.

Twitter is an absolute dumpster fire right now.

It's either idiots knocking the movie based on the cast or people falling over themselves declaring this to be the greatest achievement in the history of cinema.

Its hard when people give unnecessary bias and hate towards a movie because its more female focused, however its also equally wrong to give it a pass simply because it is female focused. There is a middle ground but people are often too dug in to either side.

Really? I thought some of them such as the streams shot was good and the one with the Time Square being filled with ghost/zombies was good.

The possession ghost effect looked bad when it leaves McCarthy's body though.

It looks cartoony, which I'm actually okay with. The problem is the unoriginal gags that make it feel way more cheesy than it even needs to be, like the vomiting ghost. Doing that with the cartoony CG, well I can see how that would be off-putting to some. However, some of it looks cool.

I mean, I'm sure a lot of the up votes aren't from people who legitimately think the movie looks funny.

I like that you imply these two reason are ideologically similar.

One is getting excited because 4 women over 30 and 40 are getting a shot at a major action blockbuster

The other is sexist hateful bullshit.

How many (sort of) big budget movies are there with a predominantely female (main) cast? Honest question.

Come on, if your empowered by this fantastic all the power to you, but don't pretend this is groundbreaking. It's completely disrespectful to the women that did break the ground. I'm not getting into the whole sexist women's movement shit on this one. Its fucking a Ghostbusters remake, if women can use it all the power to them but I think there are much better examples to plant a flag on.

Exactly. There's always going to be the "upvoted because women" and the "downvoted because women" idiots who would rather think in political agendas because it takes less brain power.

Name a major action movie that stars 3 women over 40 and 1 over 30.

It made me laugh at certain points, so that's points.

Not surprised that people are turned off by the fact that it's different from the original. First people say that it's trying too hard to be like the original, now people are saying that it doesn't try hard enough!

Yeah seriously, I was watching a video on Ghostbusters II with people talkin' about it and its predecessor, and one of them said that there was no way they would cast people of the original cast's age, and that the cast would be early 20's, early 30's at oldest (this was before the casting reveal). Despite being humorously wrong, they had a point - generally, they wouldn't do that. With a worse director, we may have only seen younger comedians.

That post makes no distinction if they all are ggers or if only some are. At face value one has to just figure they mean everyone that thumbs down the trailer is one. And if that is the case that essentially is a half-step away from calling anyone who dislikes the trailer misogynist.

In other words it's basically an ad hom.

In his or her defense, I've always had a thing for Wiig. So for me, I find two of the four attractive.
In all honesty I find no reason to not see them all as attractive but I understand excelsiorlef's point here. They aren't at artificial and unrealistic standards of attractive.

Visually I think the movie looks fairly on point.

I agree the jokes seem lackluster though. Licking the guns and the Exorcist joke were some serious lows.

I understand the overzealous defense of the trailer is just in response to the man babies who were going to hate the trailer no matter what. So who cares what people are saying if it doesn't apply to you?

Like I said I'm not playing this game. If you think this is groundbreaking and pioneering for women have at it all the power to you, I think you need to do a little research and educate yourself, I'm not here to do it for you.

Trailer looked great. As faithful to the original as can be 30 years later.

But I love McCarthy and Wiig so I was always going to like this.

So I'll take that as a no.

Lol educate myself....

This isn't going to be the most important film ever but to act like it's not breaking a bit of new ground is hillarious.

And let's be honest

If the GB trailer was the most perfect trailer, it'd still receive a pretty substantial amount of hate (because the hate originated from the cast being all women).

I get it when people don't want to have to educate someone on social issues, but this is fucking movies yo. Why are you being so dodgy about explaining why having an older all-women cast in a film (that isn't a film intended for mainly women) is not groundbreaking?

Visually I think the movie looks fairly on point.

I like the colors and that it has a lot of pop in the cinematography. I just wish it weren't being bogged down by adolescent, overly-used humor. It felt, again, like those horror movie spoofs like Scary Movie, A Haunted House, etc. and that's just really not a good thing. Feig mentioned a while back that he wanted to make it scary, but here's a possession scene that could have been, but we're making Exorcist jokes again and literally ending it with someone being slapped.

My first impressions were pretty bad and I'm against the kind of humor on display, but I'm not naive enough to believe that some bad trailer jokes = entire movie, and there's always the off chance that it works better in context or that the movie is better in the grand scheme.

I liked the trailer. I think it stands up pretty well to the original Ghostbusters trailer, which I just watched for comparison purposes. I particularly enjoyed McKinnon in the trailer, but I'm not surprised as she cracks me up the most of the various comedians involved.

A word about gamergate/feminism/etc and this movie. No one has to like the movie. And there are plenty of fine, valid reasons not to like it that have nothing to do with one's opinion of the cultural maelstrom we're currently being tossed around in.

I begin to feel like a broken record, but please focus on the topic and on your opinion of the film, rather than assigning various motives to people who don't agree with you.

What part were you talking about then? The only reference to looks is the classically beautiful line.

You know I love that someone posts a positive message of excitement from a female fan and immediately people rush in to shit on it.

Shitty reboot garbage is shitty reboot garbage no matter who is in the movie

No offense, but saying shit like "it's the wrong type of empowerment" is sexist in itself. It's you trying to say what women should and should not think is "the right kind" of empowerment.

And let's be honest

If the GB trailer was the most perfect trailer, it'd still receive a pretty substantial amount of hate (because the hate originated from the cast being all women).

The same could be said if the GB trailer was the biggest pile of shit ever. There would be a set of people who would still think it was good because it had an all women cast.

That's not honest at all.

If the trailer was funny and hit all the right notes and feels, people would praise it like they would anything else that shows promise.

The ardent defense generated by supporters only exists because of the haters, so it's not a valid comparison.

Did you just ignore how the film, before it had anything to it besides cast and director, was utterly despised by tons of people?

It's utterly naive to pretend that there aren't people whose hate for this film would be just as strong if it knocked Shawshank down to #2. on IMDB.

From idiots, sure. But people like myself who don't give a shit and just want to see a fun movie would likely be way more enthusiastic about it, and so the hate you'd see would be diminished significantly.
