Here's where I'm at right now.

Working on getting better gear.

Actually pretty decent. If you were to compare it to Destiny it's a lot better.
Yeah this game does a way way better job on story compared to destiny in my opinion. I actually care what's going on and it's interesting. Idk destiny just seems really light on story compared to this games efforts

About 23 hours in, almost level 24. I have not touched DZ and at this point I feel like it's best to hit 30. Thoughts?

Im lvl 18 and I've only been to the DZ once. IMO I think its worth a visit at one point but dont rely on it for drops since you can get better ones from missions and crafting.

Now if you want to dick around and test abilites or min/max equipment then I think you'll like it.

PS. endgame has alot of DZ farming in the upper brackets (lvl 32 mobs) so i guess its good to familiarize yourself in the DZ since at lvl 30 its instanced as one and you can get the good loot there.

I mean, I wouldn't buy it just to play through it like a single player rpg personally, never would have.

The story is better than I expected going in, certainly more interesting than Destiny's, but it's mostly presented in a passive way since it's a primarily multiplayer experience, so it's not a lot of cutscene oriented stuff, but instead you need to listen to the radio calls you get/mission details as they happen, and watch and listen to all of the intel and echoes you find. The echoes especially are a fucking awesome way to tell a story in this kind of game imo, it feels interactive even though it's basically just an audio log played over a still image.

All told: It has an arc, it makes sense, it makes weird aspects of the game like the dark zone even make sense (which is a big plus to me), but it's not remotely a 'story' you'd want from a standard rpg romp.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still on the fence on this I'm just hesitant because of past disappointments this gen.

I'm going to wait and see alittle longer.

Thanks, I liked it in the Beta, just got caught up with rolling through missions lol. I think I'll hit 30 since I feel I am only a day or so away at this point.

Dumb question time! How can I chat you the members of the group I'm in on PC? When i press enter I only have the option to chat to "everyone" and not only in the group? Other than that amazing game, can't wait to play more!

Im sorry

but the loot sucks.

A level 1 character looks just as cool as a level 30 character with top tier equipment. I cant believe how bad ubisoft failed on this aspect. I get its a realistic take on loot and gear given the setting, but they could have easily had gear look more bad ass the further you went such has having swat gear, bomb tech gear, thick big body armor etc. Its just parkas and shoes. boring.

The aesthetics of your character is based on the clothes you find, not your loot. I know some people might not like that but that's the way it is. And honestly I'd rather that be the case, we've all seen how goofy people start to look in WoW or Destiny when stuff gets overboard. I don't wanna be in SWAT gear or look like a GI Joe either.

So, I upgraded the medical wing so the game will show every intel on the map. And now my map is cluttered with little green icons everywhere.

Is there an option to turn them off? I hope there'll be a patch to address that.

Yeah I think this really pays off in the DZ, in which you cannot immediately tell how better or worse geared a person is. Really takes the "oh look, Tier 5 PVP geared warrior, okay well I might as well just stand here and die" moments away and adds tension.

So what's the deal with grouping in this game.

I'm searching for a group for the precinct siege, I'll find one, go to where it says the group members are, and they are all invisible.

A few seconds later I'm no longer in a group. Am I missing something?

So my group hit dark zone level 30 today, guess we'll finally push through to real rank 30 lol.

110k dark zone bucks before blowing it on blueprints haha.

Wish I knew how important armor was.

You're in a different instance.
When you're invited into a group from matchmaking, there'll be a notice that you can teleport to the location (and the instance, which the game doesn't explain) of the mission. On PC it's tab, on gamepad/consoles it's right analog click.

I'm at the level 15 at the moment, halfway through the story and i have to say that the story is extremely weak, at least to this point, all people to is praise you and tell that they are counting on you and that you are so cool, the whole outbreak side of the story is as bland as any apocalyptic outbreak story can be, which is a shame.

However for me the atmosphere of the city is simply amazing, walking around seeing what the npcs are up to is to me much more engaging than following the actual story, i actually might prefer playing the game alone for the most part because i like to take things slow and even though the rioters give you exp for killing them if they are just looting i just rather sneak around them. Hard to do that in a group where people just run around killing everything in sight.

Hardly the most practical way to play the game but it is the way i enjoy it the most.

Ran with a friend in the DZ tonight for a few hours. We were only levels 11-13 or so but damn was it fun. Can't really wait for 30 but I'm also in no hurry to rush to 30 to do DZ. Just as long as you are closer to the top of each DZ bracket should be okay.

Question if two in a group are lvl 14 and one lvl 10 what lvl will npcs be on normal story missions?

If it's normal, they will be scaled to whatever level the mission is.

If it's hard, it scales to the highest level.

Also worth noting that any chests you loot scale to your personal level.

I'm not telling you that you are wrong. I have no clue.

The game just came out. You can't have all the sweet loot at release or you have nothing left to get players to continue playing.

Man, 4-man group in early-mid 20's, just started running into these nasty shotgun elites that bumrush the squad and then 1-hit everybody.

so uh

does this work well as a single player game or nah

So far, up to level 23 I have only played with other people for the main missions. They would be hard solo, but not impossible. You may have to out level them a bit, but that gets hard towards the mid 20s. The matchmaking is fast though so you can basically play it solo and then snag a group and move on.
