The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd coming west for PC in 2017

Jesus @ this "won't buy if not on PSP" crowd.
Almost as bad as the people who refuse to buy them because they're Japanese dub only.

We should feel blessed by the localization gods today.

Well XSEED has mentioned before that SC would be the last PSP ever published by them in the West. With the PSP storefront shutting down by the end of the month, you'll have to rely on your Vita, PC, or PS3 to download the game in your PSP machine and who knows if even half the audience owns a combination of those. I can't blame them for not able to bring TC to PSP but it sure does suck for players on that platform.

This right here. Pretty sure this might be one of the factors, and I don't know how many people even know about it.

Pretty surprised this is coming over, I thought SC didn't sell too well on steam?

It's only been out a few months.

Can people please stop shitting on this announcement with PSP port begging. I really feel for xseed, people are never happy no matter what they get

Okay real quick. I've been meaning to buy these games on Steam but I didn't know there were so many (two different branches in the same series? Sequels? Sidequels?)

And another one, Cold Steel just got announced for PS3/V, is that game(s) coming to PC?

We have KNOWN FOREVER that even if 3rd comes, and that was pretty fucking unlikely, it would only be on the PC.

Stop being babies about this

This is wrong. You can still download games through your PSP directly. You just can't BUY them on the PSP store.

Again, that's not true. You can download stuff from PSP, what you need is a PC/phone to buy the game in the store.

The game is not releasing on PSP for obvious reasons, but that is not one of those.

To summarize, you play Trails in the Sky First Chapter first, Second Chapter second, and The 3rd third. :)

Then play Cold Steel 1, followed by Cold Steel 2. They are on PS3 and Vita.

Or swap the order of these groups if you want!

I would imagine that because of how niche of a group this game is going to sell to is, that market more than certainly has a way to get the game on PSP or have a Vita. Business is business though and I'll just have to sit in my salt for a bit and eventually move on.

why did they put the PSP versions on sale to celebrate the PC version only release of the 3rd game?

?????????????

It might surprise you, but people can indeed own more than one platform. I started Trails on PSP and have by now both FC and SC on PC. I'm sure that everyone who cares enough to complain has some 10 year old PC somewhere that is still able to play the Trails games just fine.

Long before SC even got released, XSEED emphasized that it'll be the last game they release on PSP. IIRC they even went as far as saying that the PSP release of SC mostly just boils down to fan service. So, is it too difficult just to be happy that we still got SC on PSP and that we will get The 3rd at all? Most people doubted we'd get it at all, absolutely no one thought we'd get it this soon.

You can't expect people to be fine with the third game in a story-heavy trilogy not coming to a platform the first two games were on, the first exclusively for a while.

Cold Steel is Playstation exclusive for the foreseeable future. Trails FC and SC are directly related, while The Third is a bridge between the events of SC and the 'Crossbell' Trails games, which go in between Trails in the Sky and Trails of Cold Steel.

The Crossbell titles are not available in the west yet, and their localization is likely a ways off. The story is written in such a way that you could play the Sky, Crossbell, and Cold Steel series' in any order and not harm your experience.

I think it's reasonable to be upset, considering that the series launched in the west on PSP years ago. I'm sure XSEED has their reasons, and I don't think they would have made such a decision lightly.

Shitty that there won't be a PSP release since I wanted it all on my Vita but I can understand why it's a no go. Still glad we're getting TC.

It's a linear series as far as the games in English go. Trails in the sky->trails in the sky SC->3rd->cold steel->cold steel 2

The two games of uncertain status (ao and zero) take place at the same time as Cold steel, but in a different part of the world. The sky series takes place in one country, ao and zero in another, and the cold steel ones in yet another. Those three groups also each have their own main cast

Wow, this is surprising! But how good is the game? I heard it's probably the weakest one, but then I read someone else say it was the best one.. *shrug*. I heard it was more of a dungeon crawler which I'm not sure how I feel about that. Is the story still a major part of it? Will we have to explore the exact same world for the 3rd time? Because frankly, I don't know how interested I am in doing that. Two times was kind of enough...

This looks like someone hastily added the 3 in with MSPaint.

Yup. I wantes this game so bad but didn't think we'd get it. Sure I played both Sky games on Vita but I'll happily play 3rd on PC.

Different games, same series, ongoing story.

Trails in the Sky (FC/First Chapter) is the first game.
Trails in the Sky SC (Second Chapter) is the second.

They make up the first "arc" of the story.

Trails in the Sky 3rd (this game) is a followup/sequel to those two, it functions as an epilogue and opens up the story to lead into further games.

Trails of Cold Steel and Cold Steel 2 are the third arc, they are just on PS3 and Vita, no signs of PC ports. Cold Steel 2 is releasing in English later this year. There is also Cold Steel 3, which is currently in development in Japan.

Trails to Zero/Trails of Azure make up the second arc. These are the only unlocalized/unannounced existing games at this point. Various issues in the way of these coming over, but XSEED might be able to work it out eventually.

Estelle and Joshua aren't a big part of 3rd, right?

No, it stars Kevin, who was introduced in SC. FC/SC are Estelle/Joshua's story. That's pretty much 'concluded.'

I watched a video of 3rd just to see what it was like, and
I saw that Joshua was a playable character though? Not sure if it's just temporary or if both Estelle and him can be in the party.

Not sure why Chinese poses a huge issue, since they'd still have access to the original Japanese script from the non pc version. And just the non pc version to compare to as well. The main reason they need a pc version that exists is just so they don't need to port the entire game, right?

Should probably clarify that it isn't the language problem. I meant to say it would require XSEED to license the PC port from another company that they might not be able to (Joyoland.com Limited), and it comes with terrible DRM similar if not identical to what is described here. Falcom's release of Trails to Zero removes this DRM. I have no doubt Sarah could work her programming magic to make the release up to par with all of XSEED's other Falcom PC releases.

Are you guys actually mad about not recieving a PSP game in 2016? Holy fucking shit

vita has BC with psp tho...

it's kinda different since being on psp/vita means you can take it everywhere. i think it's a legit complain, but i guess whe should take whatever is avaible

Well that's what happens when you cut out a platform on the third game of a trilogy.

A platform that's been deader than dead for 3 or 4 years (over 5 by the time this releases). Be glad they brought out SC on PSP and completed the main story. For years I never thought even that could possibly happen.

The PC version is vastly superior, I replayed FC once it came out and I've never been remotely tempted to go back to the PSP one, never even bought SC on psn. Just can't understand people's need to be so negative.

3rd is more of a linking game between the different parts of the larger stories than just a third part of a trilogy. And fucking everyone has a pc nowadays, and it's not like you need even half decent specs to run it

Did anyone besides me read the PR? They don't mention a single platform for Third.

First paragraph

XSEED Games is now officially confirming their localization of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd, the much anticipated continuation of the epic saga begun in The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and continued in The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC, for release on Windows PC in 2017.

Thanks, I do remember reading about that being the case, but had to confirm!

Definitely looking forward to the game, Kevin is pretty cool

Pretty surprised this is coming over, I thought SC didn't sell too well on steam?

It bombed super hard (about ~12k total owners on Steam). The PSP release didn't make the October or November top 10 sales on PSN for EU, not sure about NA because the NA blog only lists a "Vita" top 10 whereas the EU blog specifies it's a "PSP/Vita" top 10. SC likely only sold ~30k across the board and that's maybe being a bit generous. The fact that we are getting The 3rd is already probably top 5 or fewer most unlikely localisations of all time which is why people complaining we're not getting a PSP release on top of that is incredibly baffling to me. Upset sure, but calling XSEED out on it and shit? Hahahahaha no. Given their original comments about the PSP release of FC not meeting internal sales goals even with the Steam release of the first game I bet this series as a whole has probably lost them money.

You can't understand why people would rather play a super lengthy RPG on a handheld rather than sit in front of their monitor/TV?

I play these RPGs before bed for like 45 minutes. They're great to unwind with, and I don't have to hog the TV for 60+ hours.

I'm disappointed. That shouldn't be hard to understand.
