The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd coming west for PC in 2017

I don't like this not being on a portable either, but all of us disappointed with this have to see that the only realistic alternative would have been not getting the game at all - to which it being a PC only release is much preferable (even though I don't really play anything on PC).
The fact that this wouldn't have been a physical release anyhow lessens my pain somewhat.

As it stands, I'm happy that the game is coming over at all. I don't know when I'll get around to buy and play it, but it's good that in the future, the option to do so will exist.

Sometimes I think Vita fan(atics) had their parents brutally killed by a large screen. It's the only way I can understand reactions like these, it's Type-0 all over again.

Licensing issues, XSEED has said the EVO games are not happening due to that.

The Vita version has two other companies involved, Kadokawa and Chara-Ani. Licensing is simply not possible for those titles.

Ah, yes that's right, forgot about that. Guess it really isn't possible for a Sony release without getting past a swarm of red-tape/Sony nonsense.

Or it could be because we wanted it on one handheld. I mean I get why a PSP release isn't viable but it still kinda sucks.

I mean anyone who played fc and sc on psp and is upset they can't continue their file on pc can always just download someone elses completed save to carry over progress.

that's uncalled for and not helping anyone.

this game exists on PSP, it's ok to be upset about it not coming over.

But It's also understandable, getting the game at all is a miracle.

I guess I'm letting the negativity of a minority get to me. Was so excited by the tease and now the announcement, just can't stand people souring it in this way. They always made it perfectly clear that 3rd was a remote possibility, and SC was definitely their last PSP game.

The only comparison I can make to empathise is having to keep my Vita and 3DS for stuff like Zero Escape and Ace Attorney. I'd switch to PC or console versions of those in a heartbeat and retire my handhelds for good but because I love those games, I get them whatever platform they're on.

Its not that crazy

WE already have 3 games on Vita

Cold Steel 2 is Ps3/Vita exclusive

The mess is on Falcoms end otherwise we would most likely be seeing the Vita versions ported

Damn outsourcing and contracts and licenses

Do you know if it's possible to run SC on Mac? When I looked on steam SC looked to only be compatible with Windows.

2017 is still a ways away though. Maybe I'll have switched to PC by then.

Yes, you can play both FC / SC on a Mac by using WineBottler to download Steam for Windows on your Mac. The only thing that I couldn't get working were the FMV movies that play during certain moments. There's probably a way around it, but I couldn't quite figure it out. Everything else was perfect; I even was able to use a 360 controller (using another app that I can't remember the name of).

Jesus @ this "won't buy if not on PSP" crowd.
Almost as bad as the people who refuse to buy them because they're Japanese dub only.

We should feel blessed by the localization gods today.
Seriously. I'd understand the reverse has not everyone has a specific console or handheld, but pretty much everyone has a PC and it's not like you need a powerful one to run it.

To summarize, you play Trails in the Sky First Chapter first, Second Chapter second, and The 3rd third. :)

Then play Cold Steel 1, followed by Cold Steel 2. They are on PS3 and Vita.

Or swap the order of these groups if you want!
Hmm so I should play TitS 3rd before Cold Steel 1? I have Cold Steel on PS3, collector's edition still unopened (unlikely Christmas gift haha) because I wanted to play SC first, which I still haven't gotten around to doing. But since 3rd is supposedly some bridge/epilogue thing I figured I could play:
FC -> SC -> Cold Steel
Now that was before hearing about 3rd being localized and possibly Steel II, so I guess a better order would be:
FC -> SC -> 3rd -> Cold Steel -> Cold Steel 2

?

It bombed super hard (about ~12k total owners on Steam).
Damn, that sucks. Crazy how we're getting 3rd at all, then.

Wow, XSEED caters to Trails fans, yet at the same time, screws over the portable market entirely. Way to be a dick. As long as this game is PC only, they will not see another dime from me. I was going to preorder Cold Steel II, but not anymore. I'm actually considering cancelling my Estival Versus preorder because of this bullshit. Because that's exactly what it is. Bullshit.

DISCLAIMER: I'm very angry, yet this is a kneejerk reaction, I know it and you know it. My sodium levels are so high that my blood pressure's spiked. I'll calm down soon-ish.

Gaijinworks have 2 PSP games releasing this year, and physical to boot, if anyone can do it, its them. Hell I wont be surprised if they have at least 1 game lined up for next year too.

I'm still waiting on my physical copy to come in. They only release 1 game a year, soooo... how is it possible for them to work on something else when they have issues getting bugs out of each game with delays of their own games?

I know. They also have like 3 employees doing all that so having XSEED outsource this to them and serving as some weird middle man in an expensive and likely very time-consuming process doesn't make much sense, especially to release the game on a platform that is 11 years old when everybody who has played these games already owns a computer than can run this upcoming release.

Portable Bros

They are working with the best tools they have

Falcom outsourced the Vita titles and tied their hands.... until that changes by some miracle lets just celebrate the fact that we are getting 3rd at all

Maybe some hacker will port the text over to the PSP version with some patch :/

I dunno. Buy the game anyways

that would be up to them to sort out, I have faith that they could do it, even if it meant a later release

That's quite the childish opinion. For many people, playing in a television/monitor just isn't feasible. I am married with a baby coming soon, and I just can't turn on my console and alienate my wife. I just fire my portable on my work trips or before sleeping, sometimes even less than 10 minutes.

Playing my PS4 nowadays is so outdated as going out of the house to play in an arcade.

You never know, some people might be browsing GAF on a Pentium 3!

Daddy here and I second this

Tough not having it on portable but Ill find a way to fit this game in.

Hmm so I should play TitS 3rd before Cold Steel 1?

Not that big of a deal. CS series was made to ensure that newbies to the series could hop right in comfortably.
Since Sky1 -> Sky 2 -> 3rd -> CS1 -> CS2 is original release order (barring Ao and Zero, natch) most would say that it's best to play in that order, though it won't really hurt to skip 3rd before coming back to it.

You never know, some people might be browsing GAF on a Pentium 3!
They can sell their PSP and use the $20 to buy a PC that can run this game. :)

PC version only. Sorry, but we couldn't swing the PSP, PS3, or Vita versions of the game (and all for completely different reasons, to boot -- none of which I'm really at liberty to talk about in any great detail, so you'll just have to trust that we tried our best!).
No PS3 version is obviously because the port doesn't have trophies and SCEA are jerks. -_-

Oh well its not like I have to play the whole series to still like individual games in it, cause I liked CS a good deal! Glad ta hear CS2 is still on track for this year!

Nah, I tried to get Ys Ark of Napishtim to run on Mac with bootcamp but failed. I think I'll just get myself a Surface Pro. I've been meaning to get one for quite some time and this announcement kinda seals it.

Mind asking what was it the technical issue? Parallel works flawlessly with all my games but I mainly use a pc for gaming.

Well that's a huge fucking disappointment, I vastly prefer playing these kind of games on a handheld and just bought the second game this morning.

There's basically no point in my ever buying this infact, since I'd never get around to playing it on PC.

Fuck!

So, after calming down, I went back, did my research, and realized that this is not XSEED's fault. It's Sony's, because they refuse to believe in their own handheld console.

I apologize for how I acted earlier
(though I realize that might not matter to GAF at all)
, and would like to thank XSEED for bringing us the game over at all, no matter what form it may be in.

I've never been so happy to lose a bet.

Friend of mine bet me 3 years ago SC would never get localized, and if it did he'd buy my copy.

After SC came out we made the reverse bet with 3rd.

Apparently CS2 is less newbie friendly and makes important references to both 3rd and Ao/Azure. Playing them out of order probably wouldn't be terrible, but skipping one would probably result in an incomplete experience.

Sony has nothing to do with it

Dammnnn this is so crazy. I knew with the tweet it was all but confirmed but this is still amazing.

SMH at the people hoping this does bad bc its PC only and other dumb bullshit like that.

PC is a wide range of hardware. From portable to big tower. Your point doesn't stand at all.

Well yeah it does, just because pcs have a wide range doesnt mean people want to play it on them, or they already have a PSP/Vita. This series has been coming to hardheld in the west longer than it has PC, its not exactly surprising people want the full trilogy on handheld.

Oh absolutely. CS2 definitely relies on past series knowledge more than CS1. It's best to play as much of the series as possible.
