The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd coming west for PC in 2017

As plenty of people have pointed out FALCOM could be a significant issue. XSeed can't do the PSP programming in house- FALCOM has to do it. And if FALCOM doesn't have the resources or desire to do it then no PSP version.
Unlike soooo many other game localizers Gaijinworks does the localization programming themselves, heck they often even add features. Plus they are apparently the ones who can get a game released physically. I liked Cold Steel but this series isn't gonna be the one which drags me into the "digital present/future". Maybe tweeting Gio ta finally drop the trophy requirements for PS3 games could be a thing?

Speedhack was already essential for SC's last dungeon and its slow animations.

Yeah, and I didn't really care for the transition areas and battles in general, so my game was running at triple speed whenever I was moving from one town to another

God bless the speed hack. Definitely makes slow games more tolerable, such a shame it doesn't work with Final Fantasy VI

You think XSEED would do the programming without asking Falcom first, and somehow reverse engineer everything if they don't get permission?

So this is going just like I optimistically hoped for. As Cold Steel II's translation work is done and they can't move on to Cold Steel III yet because Falcom probably won't let them touch it until it's out in Japan, there's a gap for them to work on the older games and this is the optimal time to start work on Trails in the Sky 3rd. And by the time the translation for this is done, I'm hoping they can move on to Cold Steel III for hopefully a 2018 release. And after that, I'm hoping they can squeeze in Zero & Azure before whatever comes after Cold Steel III. That probably means no Zero until 2019, but hope still lives for this franchise in the west!

Thats not so bad maybe i do have a shot at it!

If you haven't played Ys Origin, you could give that a try sometime. Falcom released that in the same year and it has slightly higher system requirements (but still extremely low by today's standards).

Nooo I meant more like maybe some kinda partnership with Gaijinworks to do the programming if Falcom a.) doesn't want to and b.) allowed it.

These games sell next to nothing to begin with and a partnership with Gaijinworks would only make it more expensive. If you want to see the old Trails games in the west, you have no other choice than to accept the current situation. It's not like SC is setting the world on fire, after all. Or just a tiny village. Or a single house.

Awesome.

I have both FC and SC on Vita and FC on PC. Should I just get SC on PC and play it there? Is transferring the saves from one game to another something vital, à la Mass Effect?

I think that by now it should be clear that XSEED is doing everything it can to meet the fans' wishes. Japanese voice acting, the Evolution versions and another PSP port are simply outside the realm of possibilities. If Falcom says 'no', they have to abide.

Good call

Man being on PC is going to make this more challenging.... Ive been playing all these games portable at this point
Well I'll probably play this on a Laptop so it's technically portable :P

But given that I would have played Cold Steel on PS3 if I still had one instead of Vita, and that I want to play Cold Steel III on PS4, I'll be hooking my laptop to the TV and playing with a controller.

No, you get some bonus items depending on how well you did in the earlier game and that's pretty much it.

No. You get a few neat trinkets and IIRC a few NPCs will comment on you helping them out in the past, but that's about it. That said, the OT for TitS SC has a download link for a 100% run save file for FC on PC that you can use to get everything in SC, if you decide to move from PSP to PC.

The crazy thing I just remembered is that we still have Xanadu Next coming in spring. So much Falcom.

And there's still 2 mystery games in the Steam DB, right?

I understand the lack of a PSP version, but at the same time it's pissing me off. I guess PC will have to do, even if that's definitely not where I'd prefer to play this.

OOOHHHhh YEEEA

Was definitely not expecting this at all, even with the teasing tweets yesterday. Man, would have never expected it to come out period, and now we have all 3 TitS titles out. I actually really dislike playing on handhelds and will always prefer the big screen alternative, but I feel for those who are not getting in on the system of their choice.

I didn't know that was the case! Anyways I'm not desperate ta play the old games. I got the first one on UMD and remember almost nothing about it and I got CS on disc and liked it. I greatly prefer playing on the big screen to the small one so a retail release of the PS3 versions would be my ideal and get my money but I understand that's not doable largely due to Sony. So I can live without playing the older ones no prob.

Isn't Tokyo Xanadu also coming?

Sounds crazy to me.

Good times.
XSEED hasn't muttered a word about Tokyo Xanadu -- only Xanadu Next -- but Falcom has expressed interest to release it worldwide during last shareholder meeting in December.

I said it earlier but Steam Link was made for games like this. Works perfectly and you can easily play it on any TV with better image quality than a PS3.

no PSP version really sucks

I love playing these games on the go on my Vita but since I have a MacBook and most of the time I just don't care enough to boot into the Windows partition to play a game I kinda doubt I'll pick it up for PC

Trails FC just won't run on my tablet. I download the game, click "open/run/play", it shows that a window has opened and that window closes itself in seconds. If I had just this tablet, I'd have asked for a refund.

Welp, time for that SC perfect BP run I've been meaning to do. Should be easier, since I can carry over end-game stats and items.

The Chinese port isn't a problem because it's in Chinese, it's a problem because it runs at an awful resolution and is riddled with DRM. It's basically an upscaled PSP port running in a window.
What about Ao no Kiseki Evolution on Vita? Does that run into the same licensing snags that the Sora no Kiseki Evolution games do or could that release be feasible?

I don't even have a PC, even if I did, this is not the kind of game I want to sit at a computer to play.

I understand why there's no PSP version, but it still sucks :(

Does Cold Steel 2 also do the whole /voiced Rean and co./ then suddenly /silent Rean but still voiced co./ thing? Such a strange decision.

No. I believe Japanese fans also complained about that, and Falcom addressed it in the sequel.

Since that is exactly how I've played the last two Sora games, I have to ask what exactly is it about the setup that's unpalatable? Would going Big Picture and playing on a big TV while sitting on a comfy couch be better, or is the allure of handheld gaming really that strong? I can understand being able to take it to work/outside/on trains/on buses to kill time has gotta be mad convenient, but is that it? I see some people knock a few minutes out while lying in bed at night, but playing a game while in a half-sleepy state has gotta kill your attention factor, which these games kind of require of you to make any kind of sense. :P

Growing up playing 8-bit/16-bit rpgs on my own TV and enjoying every second of it, I guess I don't quite understand the mindset.

Along with that Moonlight streaming app, it looks like the PSPDisp homebrew might also be an option for anyone with a CFW PSP/Vita (albeit with more limitations).

I see little point in buying SC for the time being. I almost got it for the PSP last year, but now that I know that 3rd is a PC-exclusive, I don't see the point in buying the PSP version of SC and I still have to finish FC on PC if I want to get SC there.

Hmm both happy and disappointed about this announcement. Great its coming over, disappointed it won't be on PSP/Vita, where I tend to do my RPG playing on my commute.
