This is an incredibly clever move to launch alongside free CE, although

Collectively, these assets literally cost over $22 million dollars to make -- really, we're not kidding (even though for the sake of the original developers' pockets, we wish we were)

feels bad, man

Didn't Kojima visited Crytek some months ago? Maybe he bought the bundle too to develop his next magnum opus.

I think this could be very good for Crytek, their Engine is amazing. They could generate more attention

Yeah, if they put effort to not make the engine so hard to work with and actually spend time and money to put out good documentation. Those last two, I'm pretty sure they're short on.

It seems you don't have to pay for tier 1. Free trees for all!! you wouldn't download a car tree
edit: Just checkeed the download link, you only get the campfire :(
Hellooooooo Steam Greenlight.
I'd read the license agreement first otherwise this could turn into a Humble Cryengine legal department brings indies to their knees bundles:

If you are a student or a member of an academic institution you are in addition entitled to develop Serious Games using CryEngine and to render such Serious Games in object code form (including the CryEngine Assets and the CryEngine Redistributables) pursuant to the CryEngine documentation. However, you are in no case entitled to commercially exploit such Serious Games without Crytek’s explicit prior written approval.
Dear Mr. CryEngine,
I superglued your assest together, mowed lawns until I got $100 and got meself a stream grremight account. I need you to permission me to use your assests in my fine game. It a fps and an MMORPG...with TREES!

Eh? Wasn't Nexuiz an Id Tech game? As in, Quake 1 Id Tech?

(Or was it Quake 3 Id Tech, I forgot)

I think the original was. That new one was IIRC a result of one dev having the rights to the name, saying "fuck you" to the team and going to make a game under that name on his own with another dev. The original was forked as Xonotic and I think is still being developed.

It says the assets are royalty-free but I wonder if using the assets in another engine is legal.

Also, anyone know what type of file these modles are?

"Serious games" in this context usually refers to things like Military simulators - where is the licencing terms linked on that page?

e:
yeah,
“Game(s)”: an interactive product for a certain Platform (which might have CryEngine Assets embedded) in object code form including the CryEngine Redistributables for the sole purpose of entertainment, developed and compiled by using the CryEngine pursuant to its documentation. Under this Agreement the following will not be considered Games:

§ military projects;
§ gambling;
§ simulation (technical, scientific, other);
§ science;
§ architecture;
§ pornography;
§ Serious Games.

they don't want people using these in for high cost commercial simulators

SWEDISH PERFECTION
Bought it just for the audio pack. Let's just say the sounds are of varying quality, but I guess some of them can be of use when combined with other sounds. Also, I tried to google the creator mentioned for several of these assets (Madison Pike) but nothing came up.

Can these assets be used in other engines or are they CryEngine specific (mostly referring to the 3D models, textures, audio)?

How easy is scripting in Cryengine compared to Kismet? I don't have much experience with Cryengine so I'm curious if this would be a sound investment.

Audio files are all .wav

the rest seems engine specific. .dds , .cfg , .mtl files. Not .obj or anything like that.

Pretty sure DDS is a format that was developed for DirectX use and sure is not exclusive to CryEngine. Dunno if UE supports it, but the textures won't be of much use without the models anyway.
