In a contested convention are the choices the ones still standing or can the GOP delegates also choose one of the fallen?

Anybody

They could literally run George H.W. Bush if they wanted to.

Of course, picking someone who's not Trump would, you know, de-legitimize the entire democratic process when they choose to ignore the overwhelming voice of the people and probably tear the party in two. But, collateral damage and all that.

The Establishment isn't playing the long game here (which would be, let Trump get the nomination and then lose in the General so they say "See, that kind of lunacy will never win! Let's get the party back to its core values
Whilst ignoring that the party had no problem embracing that kind of lunacy for the past 60 years, Trump's just been upfront about exploiting it
) they just want to minimize downticket losses in this particular election.

Crossover voters contributing to Operation Chaos are doing the right thing to ensure that Republicans get destroyed in November

Every second Trump stays in spewing his hate is a loss for the people of this country.

Yeah, maybe he would be easier to beat (although who knows as weird as things have been), but every second that Trump is spewing his hate about Mexicans, Muslims, women, etc is a loss for this country. That's a moment that people have to hear hate spewed against them on television, that Trump supporters feel emboldened to say and do things to immigrants, Muslims, etc, and that parents have to explain to their five year old children why the man on TV is calling them a rapist.

So yes, I think that people who cheer for Trump staying in for the chaos are missing the forest for the trees. We need to strike this sort of hatred down immediately, not cheer for it because of the possibility that the spewer will be easier to beat.

As if Cruz and Trump supporters/delegates would EVER coalesce behind the idea of a nominee Kasich. It's gonna be Trump or warfare.

I was really hoping for Bernie, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I'll always be grateful that he paved the way for people to talk about socialist policies as a realistic idea in the US in this modern age.

This is where I'm at, as a Bernie supporter. I'm glad he ran, and as somebody who lived in Vermont for quite some time, it was awesome seeing him climb out of the tiny mountain state onto the national stage in such a big way.

I'm happy he gave Hilary some actual competition, because his presence helped push the the talking points in certain directions.

His presence in this election was a positive thing, and I think going forward there's a lot to be hopeful for.

With how overtly liberal GAF is you should all be screaming for Kasich doing this well.

A brokered convention destroys the GOP in its entirety.

Not really, if a more establishment friendly candidate gets tossed in, he may fare better that if it would be Trump

Trump = guaranteed Democrat win

Are you blind or just extremely short sighted? Supreme court picks by Clinton for the next 8 years will help progressives for DECADES.

There's a decent shot that she's a one termer. We haven't had a party hold the White House for more than 12 years since Roosevelt-Truman. I mean, unless the Republicans spend the next four years not getting their shit together, which is totally a possibility.

sorry for being ignorant about how the US system works, is this deciding who the final democratic and republican presidential candidates are or not yet? its confusing :/

What I'd like to know is where all this concern for the working class was all these years when people who didn't look like you weren't affected.

A lot of us have been just keeping our heads above water for a while

Normally I would be scared of Kasich beating Hillary.

Problem is only way he gets the nom is by fucking over Trump and then Trump goes scorched Earth.

No Republican candidate is winning with Trumps 30% of the base in revolt.

Uh dead serious bro, 8 more years of neoliberalism will kill the working class for good

The issue with this is that, even though neoliberalism is far to the right of someone like Sanders, it doesn't inherently mean that it's anti-working class -- Obama is a neoliberal, so was Bill Clinton. If we can't break free of the obstruction in Congress, not even neoliberals, espousing compromise with the uncompromising, could get anything done. Make no mistake, the majority of the time, neoliberals are STILL Democrats, and STILL support, for the most part, reforms and policies that benefit the poor and working class. And, to be fair, with money in politics, they really can't buck the corporatism that infects the political process. If they do, then they have no money...and lose.

There are more caucuses to go. But in essence, after how tonight is looking, there isn't really any room for anyone but Hilary or Trump to be the final candidates.

What if trump Brokers a deal to make Kasich a VP candidate???
- You need OH to win the presidency
- Trump already said that he is looking for a traditional person for his VP spot.
- he has an 80% approval rating there so they love him

Light years ahead of anything on the republican side. However, this election cycle really could've used some fresh blood on the Dem side. It's become evident that the Democratic and Republican parties should really evaluate their leadership and policies within their party. Oh well there's always next election cycle for someone better.

For the Dems? Yes.

For the GOP? Trump has carpet bombed a significant chunk of their bench, including Rubio. Hope you guys like 2020 nominee Trey Gowdy!

Yes, each party has their own procedure for selecting their nominee for president. The actual presidential election is whole other ballgame that will ramp up later this year towards the end of summer.

Damn dude. That was cold. And unfortunately true. :(

Oh hush. Y'all need to chill with the hyperbole. Know what's going to change? Nothing. With Hill-dawg we might kill more people in the ME, domestically, things will pretty much stay as they are now, a political roadblock caused by people's general apathy in voting in state elections.

Wow, didn't expect Hills to carry pretty much all the states with such margin. It's over for Bernie - absolute wipe out. He needed to do miles better than the results I'm seeing.

Why would you need OH to win the presidency?

Kasich said today he has zero interest in being Trump's VP.

With how he treats his surrogates (hi, Chris), I don't blame him.
