If xbox is on or on instant on you should be able to start download from xbox.com

If you purchased the yen cards, go on the JP website for xbox and redeem the codes, and purchase the game. You will now have license for DS3 and can download it freely.

Working for me. Maybe try a different browser? I had problems with the Microsoft Store site's cookies in Chrome.

Ok, I tried again on the microsoft store and it magically worked where I left off(before it was just stuck in an endless loop). I have the codes. Can someone clearly point me where I need to enter them and how to download

Go to the Dark Souls 3 game page on xbox.com, then set region to japan from the page of the game. Then it should give you a prompt to buy.

Yup, you'll get the emails as well, but it took a good 20 minutes for me to receive them.
