The biggest red flag about this whole "leak" is that the original patent had a river, and not a single tree. Either they were trying to throw us off, there's been some major development changes, or its fake.

The rumor was that there would be a separate NX Handheld in addition to the NX Console, not the handheld being bundled with the console as the controller.

I don't like the idea of no face buttons, incredible haptics or not. That said, when it comes to controls - the actual performance & handling - I have complete confidence that Nintendo will deliver, ragardless of the final form. The company is way too gameplay focused to have the design of all their games compromised by the lack of face buttons. It's obviously a prototype, so I'm sure they'll be testing the heck of that thing until their internal teams are at least 'comfortable' with the final design.
In the event that nothing changes, Nintendo will likely just fall back on backward compatibility - for any genres(fighting) that may present a problem - or even something unexpected like a removable capacitive face button plate. I guess we'll see.

What I'm more anxious/hopeful to hear is that they actual implemented their supplemental computing device patent, with the idea of boosting hardware performance locally(and in some unique in-game cases, remotely). Now that would make for some interesting hardware!
