NX Controller Rumor [Up5: Original was fake, and thus this is too]

There's also a thing called plasti-dip, which people spray on their cars to protect paint. You can get mixtures to give it different effects. This would make it really easy to change colors on the fly.

I think it's a real stretch to expect anything like that, considering that kind of technology is barely out of the lab.
Depends on what they're doing. Did I imagine it, or wasn't there news some years back about Nintendo investing in the sort of haptic feedback that allows you to, say, touch a picture of a beach and feel the shape and texture of seashells, grains of sand, etc.

If -that's- what they're using, they most definitely could replicate the feel of buttons. But that's a big "if," of course. We don't know if this will be nearly as advanced.

Nintendo does. But it usually includes their logo, the serial number of the devkit and a troubleshoot phone number.

it would probably be on the back though. the stuff on the image looks like an in-office print that someone would have put on the machine.

Confound those neogaf boys, they drive me to drink

Gotta say, out of all the sub-threads in this topic #teampainted is the strangest of them all

Unless they 3D printed the paint....?

When you print something off a 3D printer, it's usually attached to support structure created by the machine so that it won't collapse in on itself while the material is still viscous during the print. You have to scrape that off, then sand it down to smooth out the surfaces as best you can. After you do that it will have the correct shape (if you didn't screw up the print or oversand anything) you were going for, but it will look ugly as sin because it looks buffed out with splotch from the sanding, and ABS comes in some fugly colors. You'd never use an unpainted 3d print to pitch a potential product to a corporate board, say, if you were in product design. So you have this ugly thing but it's at least in the correct shape you wanted. What's the solution? You paint it. Spray paint is really popular. All you have to do is cover your 3d print in a couple coats of primer, then spray on a couple coats of your desired spray paint.

I'm sure they've invested it, but unless they've got something cooked up in a secret lab somewhere the most we've seen out of textured haptics was in very recent tech shows. Which would also be quite expensive I'm sure.

Given how rare it is for Nintendo to do anything that is cutting edge, I wouldn't have high expectations for the haptics.

It sounds like a nightmare for customer service and repairs as well.

I hope we get a Nintendo Land 2 out of this. The first one was the most fun multiplayer experience I've had since couch co-op Warhawk on PS3 (still the GOAT).

Was leafing through a few articles from the usual leak suspects to see if they made any side comments.

This one probably isn't shocking:

Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-03-23-nintendo-nx-controller-reports-gather-pace

One possible explanation for the 'timing' of the two leaks is that Nintendo could have recently sent out a new model. In fact, perhaps this is even the final or UAT model and that's what prompted these people to leak it as they feel confident this is what it'll look like

I still don't believe that Nintendo would make a controller without physical buttons. No way that would happen unless they have finally completely lost it.

I think the theory behind what I'm seeing is sound. However, I do think from an ergonomic point of view, instead of the foot ball shape if we got a rounded square it might work better. after all people after countless years are used looking at square / rectangular screens.

A note about the white controller.

The whole chassis is white, and the supposed flexible circle pads are the exact same hue of white. The nubs are part of the 3D-printed chassis mold.

It also kind of looks like the back of the device here is black. There is a little black ring that can be seen on the left side. Maybe it's just because it's cobbled together with random parts (if real) or if fake, it would be easy to change the color on the fly by paint or plastidip.

Imagine the E3 Direct unveiling it:

SCENE: Shigeru Miyamoto walking through a parking lot, the cameraman following

MIYAMOTO: "My hobbies often influence the games I make, the experiences I create. People often ask me: 'What's your hobby at the moment?' Well —"

*Miyamoto stops at a parked car and glances both ways*

*He elbow out the passenger-side window, reaches in and wrenches off the rear view mirror*

MIYAMOTO: "These days, I like to collect rear view mirrors."

*He slides under the car and begins removing the catalytic converter*

INTERVIEWER OFF SCREEN: "What are you doing?"

MIYAMOTO: "I'm going to resell these."

INTERVIEWER: "Isn't that illegal? And aren't you a millionaire?"

MIYAMOTO: "It's not about the money. It's about the thrill of the act."

Yeah, I can't look at that one without seeing a fake lens flare and a fake image superimposed on a white plastic thing. I think that image is just a white plastic shell with a cropped screen of the UE4 demo put where the "screen" should be. There is no actual glass in that mockup.

After seeing the response, the trolls decided to step it up and wanted to show it with the screen off by and made the illusion a bit better.

Yup.

Also since this and the black one look too close to identical to be coincidence, if one ends up showing it's fakeness then the other falls with it. Ain't no way is one gonna be proven fake while the other is still considered real.

So yeah I'm looking forward to one or the other getting definitive proof that it's a bunch of bunk. And I don't think we're near defeated on proof otherwise yet.

That first "leaked" photo of the controller is still the most problematic. The reflection or whatever it is supposed to be makes no sense. I can't figure out what it is supposed to be showing or reflecting and looking at it now with these new photos of the screen off, I can't reconcile the differences.

Yeah I noticed it after I posted. So this is either a dual-painted chassis or it was assembled. If it's assembled then that actually lends a bit of credence to authenticity. Just a tiny bit.

The bottom edge shows the casing sandwich pretty well.
The plot thickens.

How the hell are you supposed to hold it? It doesn't look ergonomic in the least bit.

Was really hoping Nintendo was going to come back into the fold of making a non-gimmicky console to compete against sony/ms and not try yet again another Wii U style console.

This thing is going to take over the world, it looks too sick. It has that psp 2004 vibe, you dont know anything about it but you need it.
I'm not sure PSP is a favorable comparison for the chances of something "taking over the world," lol

But I agree, this looks neat

Well when the real announcement comes around people will keep their expectations in check.

If its real, then we had a few weeks to digest the format.

If its fake, them the real thing will be a real surprise and a completely new level of hype will be born from it.

Needs to be reposted. We know which dev leaked this and literally even the floor and window it the photo was likely taken from. How people still can deny this is real is simply amazing.

Not sure if someone has done this yet but here's the two side by side

I could buy it, but I mean, it's a tree without leaves. This is starting to seem like a The Witness puzzle

Thinking more about it, it's likely that for simplicity's sake of having the mold print correctly, the bottom and face pieces were printed separately, to be assembled into a whole object. That would explain the white faceplate with white nubs while having a black casing underneath. The other model is instead a black faceplate with glossy plastic or acrylic to give the illusion of being turned off.

This has me dying. LMAO!

Selling 80 million systems against as dominant and entrenched a force in the handheld side of the biz as nintendo was nothing short of a miracle. The 3ds wishes it could conquer like the psp did.

A small miracle, sure, but not "taking over the world." Nintendo is the one who's done that in the dedicated portable games machine space.

I like Sony products — I play my PS4 more than my WiiU — but let's be fo realz.
