PS4K information (~2x GPU power w/ clock+, new CPU, price, tent. Q1 2017)

Not too thrilled with this. Should have waited on getting my second PS4.

I look forward to buying remastered PS4 games soon.

Fuck this.

can't help but feel PS4K will sell like shit. how many people here have 4K TVs?

I have but I just want a more consistent 60 FPS when the option is possible- I dont care for 4K for gaming at all - I hope they go down the beefier CPU option...

The takeaway from all this, is don't buy either a ps4 or a Bone until this all shakes out folks, lol. Would seriously behoove you to wait. Especially at $399, lol.

This thing must come out soon if they are telling everybody and their mother about it.

Sony have their biggest exclusive of perhaps the whole gen coming out in one month and they go around telling everybody that they should not buy this PS4 since a bigger one is on the way. Just seem so non-strategic and poorly thought through. I wonder how big impact this will have on console sales.

How long were you expecting the generation to last? The PS3 released in 2006 and the PS4 came out in 2013, which was 7 years later.

Most publishers wanted the generation shorter by about a year, so it would have presumably been a 6 year generation under normal circumstances. The generation will be 3 years old by the time this launches.

Most publishers wanted shorter generations for what?
Not launching games?
A lot of studios didnt launch even one single game in this gen.

what language is this

The only language you need

Got to absorb the OP, but a couple of thoughts/questions.

The CPU is said to be a maybe/maybe not. That sounds silly if devs have kits and this is coming out before years end. Surely clock speeds aside it is locked down now?

The GPU...is it just the exact same GPU as now with double CU's or a Polaris chip? I remember reading a post on WCCFTECH about a Polaris chip that was running at 800Mhz could it be related to PS4.5?

And how long does PS45 stay relevant until PS5 is announced? 2019?

The phone argument doesn't work for consoles. If I buy a Samsung Galaxy 7 from T-Mobile, yes, it may cost $700 but I pay it off over a period of 24 months at $30 or whatever a month. Unless that option becomes available for consoles, with a free upgrade like phone providers do, then I don't see the market openly accepting this type of constant upgrade and change within the home console market.

Even if it's earlier than they wanted to Sony needs to come out and say something. It's kind of crazy though because what would be the point of buying a PS4 from now until october?

Why should I buy Uncharted 4 in May if I just can wait until November and a patch to play it in 1080p60fps?

Sony, you need some damage control now. This can't wait for E3.

really?
why?

its great, the normal PS4 will play the same games just less graphics. the new one plays better graphics for the people that wanted better looking games. nobody is forcing you to upgrade as you can get the same game for your vanilla PS4. its a win win.

Nah, post-PS4K games will inevitably run like slideshows on vanilla PS4s. Devs already chase graphics at the expense of performance, but that gap is going to double with this hardware split.

Early adopters are fucked. Either pony up another $500 3-4 years earlier than expected, or play shitty versions of new games. No trade-in program is going to take the edge off, either, because that type of thing is always hoped for but never actually happens.

Really disappointed seeing consoles go the mobile route. This is the new normal.

Increasing GPU and offering 4K media without increasing margins though.

Why would any sane person do such a thing.

If you're going to profit off "HQ gaming" there's no reason why they'd offer it at the same price as their current model for average gaming.

I was expecting it to last about as long as the last generation did... I was under the impression that we wouldn't be seeing new hardware for a good long while.

Certainly not a system more expensive than the PS4 in a little over 3 years.

Is a GPU twice the power of the PS4's enough for 4K? As in, current PS4 fidelity games like Uncharted 4 etc.

No, definitely not. Games of that nature that "support 4K" will most likely pick a resolution that scales up from about 1/4th or maybe half the number of pixels.

If this is true, Fuck Sony.

The Ps4 is doing fine why are they going to mess with that with this bullshit?

PS4 is not doing fine. Look at Street Fighter and take a look at the disgusting shadowy pixels. The PS4 could be so much better.

What if it can output to 2k, then upscale the rest? Just a half step to make games look better than upscaled 1080p games.

Sounds like PS4K won't release til next year, unless you think Deep Down and GoW4 are coming this holiday which I don't think is happening.

I don't mind the idea of PS4K or iterative consoles, however...

No trade-up program?
PS4 not targeted for development?
No benefit to current PS4 games without dev patch?

I'm going to be dumping my PS4 if this stuff stays true.

Sounds like Sony is going all in for VR and since PS4 isn't powerful enough to get the results they want it will be treated as a second class console.

Cool. Since the PS4 is a closed PC now does this just mean that the settings will just scale depending on which system you play the game on? This doesn't seem like as big of a deal as everyone is making it out to be. PS4 will be Medium settings and this would be high or ultra with maybe 60fps versus 30. PC's seem to cope fine with different levels of power.

It won't be 60 vs. 30 as that would essentially require some studios to make two separate games.

well current trade in is $200 for a PS4 , I can maybe see $250 but $200 might be the best bet since it is getting older

$200 sounds about right, as GME could be overrun by old PS4 hardware that won't have much value in another year. Will be hard to position old PS4 sales as compatible if software performance is as poor as OP suggests.

I don't have much of a problem with this other than how much "sacrifice" is needed to have the games work on both consoles. Sacrifice being that it wont look as good as the the new ps4 or sacrifice in that it will run worse on the old ps4 than if the new ps4 was not out.

In other words, the old ps4 is not negatively impacted other than not being able to run the same games that are on new ps4.

If that latter is the case, no problem, and sign me up.

All this said, Sony better get out ahead of this before the negative internet train gets going.

I will say this, this generation still doesn't feel like it's in high gear unlike the 360/PS3 generation. I've barely used my PS4 and at this time in the 360 cycle I was getting a lot more value for my console purchase.

So at least for me, this was a super slow generation that is getting capped off before it really got going.

Absolutely. And I can only imagine what enhanced graphics will do to increase development time.

They'll launch it besides a price drop of the original PS4 which will quietly go out of production at the same time.

Yes, could. We don't know yet but saying they will stay at the same level speaks more hope then knowledge.
No need to get defensive already.

That comment isn't defensive. Perception is everything and the way it's worded, and will be reported by other outlets, could and likely will be received negatively. Instead of it becoming an incentive to buy a PS4K, it's become a reason for people to be annoyed at Sony. These leaks are a perfect example of how they can damage markets. It hasn't given Sony time to put the messaging in place, it's generated it's own messaging, as demonstrated by this thread and the many alarmist comments. That ONE sentence is the most destructive thing written so far.

MS today talked about how amy game can be converted their new platform. Even old ones. They are proving to have a solution for this issue.

the outrage at this is bizarre to say this least. double the gpu and better cpu for the same price sounds pretty incredible to me.

People aren't arguing the price. It's the lack of plan for current PS4 owners to trade in, and a potential change to the PlayStation strategic direction to incremental hardware upgrades over a longer console shelf life.
