So has anyone else run into the same problem as me? The game has gotten easier and easier as it has gone on. The game stopped being challenging after the
Disembowelled Husk
. I have one shot 7 of the last 8 bosses (wiped once on the other). I feel like the bosses don't punish mistakes at all, you always have time to heal, and I'm rocking 12 charges so I can fuck up a lot and still down the boss if necessary. I'd like a little more challenge honestly, downing the
Disembowelled Husk
was borderline orgasmic because I had to work for it, but one shotting a boss just feels so meh, especially when I only have like 4 or 5 bosses to go.
You spoilered the second to last boss so I assume you meant Wyrm
You can go down to the Red Hall of Cages after Castle of Storms. Use the key from Wyrm to unlock a door on the right side of the castle behind one of those big dudes.

Yeah, it definitely got easier later in the game. I played through three times, with a Dex build last and even knowing the bosses well by that point it was the hardest of the three archetypes I tried. Perhaps fire up a thief/hunter character for some more challenge?
Just finished my new game+ run pretty darn quick. Got the platinum, feels good. That was an amazing game but I think im done for now. I hope this game has sold well it deserves it. Ska Studios please bring back Zpk2x Zombies and Pterodactyls. Pleeeease.
I need a bit of build help, but you guys may not be able to offer me much beyond "git gud." I just beat Kraekan Wyrm and I'm down in the Red Hall of Cages. I'm level 36 and rolled a Paladin because my initial intention was to have an strength-based offensive character with some buffing/healing spells. This seems to have been folly because of how taxing the magic system is. I'm still using the starting Class 1 mace, albeit upgraded, and regular enemies are wrecking my shit. Like a fifth to a fourth of my health bar per hit.
I don't know if I screwed something up or what. My points are arching up into the one handed mace end of the skill tree, with a few down in the cleric bit. Those cleric bits seem like wasted points at this junction, and I feel like I have WAY too many points in endurance, especially considering its only function is increase the amount of armor I can wear, and that armor appears to be doing fuck all in terms of damage reduction. I'd rather have those points in strength, will, and poultices, and be able to roll quicker than wear cool looking armor and still get kicked around like a flaccid hacky sack by basic enemies.
So what do? I have three Gray Pearls, can I use them at the starting point of my tree to refund all the black pearls and effectively redo my build, or do I need to start a new game for that? Can I fix my awkward build, or have I simply wasted a ton of points? I might honestly reroll and try a new build entirely, but considering I'm still using my upgraded starting mace and armor (and thus all the points I put into endurance have been wasted), I almost feel like there's gotta be something I'm missing here.

You can't use your pearls at the root of the tree and get all the points back. There's not going to be a way to fix a build if it's as screwed up as you think it is.
Cleric prayers are not a waste in the slightest but you need at least Cleric class 3 to have spells worth using more than just Mend or Spirited Mend (Divine Armor would fix a lot of your problem about taking too much damage). Also, if you're going to be doing any sort of casting, you NEED to have the Crystalmoat ring on so you're not losing so much max stamina per cast.
Heavy armor just isn't necessary. Fast roll speed is much better at mitigating damage, in my opinion. Fully upgraded endgame heavy armor will make you take close to no damage, but that's a huge investment compared to just wearing lighter armor and rolling through attacks.
Finished the game with a strength build, mostly using swords, polearms and greatmaces. I think I might do another run for the platinum
Is magic viable? A magic build could be fun to shake things up since I completely ignored in my first run.
I'm accepting suggestion for fun/OP build to try out on my second run, I would be inclined to go magic but maybe something like thief or hunter is good too.

Just barely managed to beat The Coveted. Upgraded my Jaws of Death to level VII,and found my way into the Mire of Stench. As soon as I got there I was poisoned twice and had to leg it back to my previous save point in Hager's Cavern! I'm probably 20 hours in now, but still absolutely loving it.
Ahah oh wow. And I thought my greathammer was doing too much damage. What's the best creed for mages? I followed The Three in my first run and the "resins" were godly for a melee character.

The creeds that give you the spell I used in that video would be the best, so one of these three:
House of Splendor, Order of the Betrayer, or Keepers of Fire and Sky
Note that Dragonfire is getting nerfed as soon as the next patch hits, but even without dragonfire, mage feels incredibly easy even with just the lower level Lightning Barrage and Flame Barrage spells.

Holy shit, The Witch of The Lake is destroying me. That firestorm spell of hers does about 90% of my health immediately. Gonna need a change of tactics; I'm not going to be able to tank this battle.
Alright, beat her. Thankfully the Sanctuary was really close by. That battle felt a little bit broken, as I died about 7 times, but three of those were from her going off screen and shooting that machine gun volley at me. Not fun. Anyway, it's done now.
I'm not sure how strength/magic would be different from melee/magic, unless you're going for a Dexterity melee build (which isn't advisable as the better weapons scale with Strength). However, pretty much any build you want is possible - I'm doing a melee run at the moment, but I'm going to re-spec as much as I can and try to become a magic user in NG+, if possible. Otherwise I'll probably start a new character and go for a magic build, as I'm keen to see how OP some of these spells are.
Finally a boss has killed me after one shotting the past 7 of 8, I wiped on
The Witch
about 5 times, so still not super hard but at least she had abilities that punished you. That's the most I've enjoyed the game in awhile. I've also just upgraded my Greatsword to class 4 which will no doubt make it easier but I want to see class 5 during this run, I just hope the devs balance the builds soon, you should be able to progress your character without making the game trivial.
Finally finished the game! Enjoyed it a lot, Id give it a 9/10, great, great game. Long, good gameplay and some cool areas. Maybe it could use a map, I did get lost sometimes, but managed to find my way back to new bosses. Hardest bosses for me were
the pirate dude that fires his pistol 300 times in a row and the witch of the lake
. Last boss
was actually really easy, he took a shit ton of damage from normal weapon attacks
Yeah, I didn't realise what the bottle was for either for probably the first two thirds. Haven't bothered using it anyway.
Anyway, I think I'm right outside the final boss's area. Probably the only thing I don't like in the latter part of the game is that there's a few places where you have to take a leap of faith. I hope to finish up tonight; just need to put my kids to bed first.

I still have no idea how to deal with that one shot magic shit, luckily he only did it twice, the first nearly killed me and I decided to yolo kill him during the second as I was stuck in a corner, it was kill or be killed.
Solid 7.5/10 from me, easily can push to an 8/10 with better build balance and some boss tuning. Now to clean up the optional bosses I missed.
Edit: Oh fuck off, you can't go back? It instantly puts you into NG+. Well there's a tip, do all the optional bosses before the last one. Gutted.
That was my biggest issue with the game, the difficulty curve was completely skewed because of boss tuning and build imbalance. It basically went from a steady incline with a couple of massive jumps, then a huge period of decline (which was quite boring) with some blips of incline before finally spiking a little on the last boss. I would buff a considerable amount of the bosses in the later half of the game, and I would tone down certain builds, if they do that it's an easy 8/10 for me.

Started a hard mode character, aka dex build and it's noticeable straight away IMO. I wiped so many times on The Queen of Smiles, and the kill was messy as hell, to be fair it's midnight and I'm tired but still! I did do her 2 levels lower than on my Paladin, though.
Did some looking but didn't find an answer. I just maxed my devotion to Devara's Light and I read that you unlock some new items for sale at the vendors in the shrines. But I'm pretty sure there's nothing new at any of them. Do only some creeds have new items that unlock?

I know when you level up devotion to The Three, the blacksmith sells the claymore. I would imagine all creeds have some unique items for sale once leveled a few times.
Finished it last night. The final boss took me only two tries, I think. Its attacks reminded me of fighting Ronin Cran, although I found Cran more difficult.
STORY SPOILERS BELOW
I found the premise
of an island created from one man's dream to be surprisingly similar to Zelda: Link's Awakening
, but really interesting nonetheless. I might have missed a lot of dialogue, but I only remember
talking to the guy at the very beginning when you wake up on the beach, maybe once after that and then before the final area, and then there was that scarecrow which I talked to at least a couple of times - was that an image of the Nameless God
? Also, does this mean
the stuff with the ship and the princess was not real? Or it was all real, but by defeating the Nameless God the protagonist survived the trial and was released from imprisonment on the island?
Anyway, after finishing it I went back to fight The Unspeakable Deep - not realising that it has to be done at the beginning of a new game, and you can't cheat and do it on NG+! I fought it about five times, but didn't manage to beat it. Basically one hit and it takes me out, and I probably didn't get more than 1/4 of its health down before slipping up and making a mistake. Will try again tonight, and also I think I'm gonna dash through NG+ and try to get the Platinum. Didn't get any trophies for helping the sorcerer or the knight, or anything - I imagine those are down to conversations I've missed.
Yeah, I'm moving onto Enter the Gungeon when it comes out on Tuesday. Hopefully I can get enough of that before Dark Souls 3 the Tuesday after. I'd be on Hyper Light Drifter right now if I could get my goddamn controller working with it.
Well my new PS4 hard drive (1TB 7200RPM Hitachi Travelstar 7K1000) and Until Dawn just arrived now so I think I'll give that a whirl today but I don't think Salt and Sanctuary is done for me yet, there's some replay value to be had there. Tell you what, was really surprised at how quick and easy it was to replace the PS4 HDD, it took maybe 15 minutes from start to finish, now I just need to download my two digital games then install the rest from disc.

Been sorting what I need to do for the remaining trophies, and I'm dropping it in a Word document so I can save it and use it for reference.
I still have to:
Defeat the Unspeakable Deep
Aid an Unravelling Sorcerer
Aid a Despondent Thief
Aid a Questing Knight
Dominion - get the second ending
Take an oath to the Iron Ones
Take an oath to the Keepers of Fire and Sky
Take an oath to the House of Splendour
Take an oath to the Order of the Betrayer
I'll focus on beating the Unspeaking Deep to begin with, and then do another run-through of NG+.
Thanks; yeah, I realise a lot of it was my impatience of wanting to hit it two or three times if possible before rolling. I'll try again later and take my time more.
You could of got the oaths on first playthrough. The game saves when you pray. Not after you take an oath so can just take the oath quit out by dashboard and then reload and still have your current covenant level
That feeling when you get good against a certain enemy is just like the Souls series here, and that's what I love most about this game. The C

The Crypt Keeper is the massive armoured knight with axes, right? Those bastards troubled me almost throughout. I just about got confident fighting them near the end in the Crypt of the Dead Gods, as there are two almost one after the other.
