Fuck that looked incredible. That shot of the shadow over the death star confused me until the "dish" reveal, so cool AND that shot of the AT-ATs, fucking hell.

Could go either way for me. I hope they won't set up too much stuff that they'd revisit in books, comics etc. but tell a good concluded story. And if the characters are good enough, revisit them in other stuff, but don't set it up that way from the beginning.

If they manage to do that, this has the potential to be the best SW movie for me. No focus on the Skywalker family, even if a cameo from Vader is most likely. Maybe even no Jedi or Sith. A good director. It has all the things that could make this a great SW movie.

Checking the trailer again, yeah... I'm not a big fan of the edgier look of some of the characters here. I like the slightly "happier" look of Rey, Fin and the others compared to these new guys. They also get in serious situations but it's mixed with a bit more cheeky stuff which I think is also part of what makes Star Wars what it is.

I'm definitely looking forward to this movie and I don't hate the characters either, but I'm slightly concerned about whether they might have made them a bit too edgy, that's all.

Meaning, it feels like the SLJ casting in the prequels to me - instead of seeing a character, I see SLJ (or in this case Donnie or Forrest), and it takes me out of it a bit. Forrest is a goddamn amazing actor, probably way too good for SW, so its not a knock on him, it's just what my first thoughts were ("hey, it's Donnie Yen and Forrest Whitaker"). I'm sure I'll be the only person on earth to feel that way haha.

Forrest Whitaker is giving me uncomfortable flashbacks to Battlefield Earth, and I haven't even watched that movie.

Yeah, gifs ruin many fight scene clips for me. It's the combo of no sound and the clip being repeated over and over again.

All I'm saying is it felt a bit weird. The action is great, the dialogue was a bit cheesy in a bad way (for me) and some of them looked angry in a quite forced way.

Something in the same tone as TFA or any of the other Star Wars movies shouldn't be inherently boring either! You can tell many interesting stories while keeping the mood.


Either way I'm so looking forward to this movie!

It's almost like one-second shots aren't designed to be watched dozens of times on a loop.

The lack of sound doesn't help either. A nice impact noise can really sell it.

That was alright I guess, I'm kinda bummed Forest Whitaker is in it though I never liked him as an actor. Also I've grown quite sick of the piano versions of classic themes in trailers these days. So cheap.

Speaking of cheap, I'm sure the film won't be, but it kinda has a made for TV feel to it. Not sold on this to be honest. I really have to see more.

I keep adding stuff to my comment When I say cheap I don't really mean the sets, it's more the actors, they feel out of place somehow. It's just my gut feeling though, I'm sure the end result'll be good.

Looks really cool. The cast is promising as hell imo. Teaser implies the movie will be a lot more action-packed than I thought it would be. Was thinking/hoping it would be more of a smaller-scale, character driven story. But I will reserve judgement on that, for now it does at least look visually stunning and some shots, like the assault on the AT-ATs look like iconic shots already.
