Pretty neat teaser. Looks to be great hopefully.

Loved the trailer! I love that we are getting female leads but I already had a couple of people who are "NEW" Star Wars fans (after seeing The Force Awakens) and they are asking "is this a sequel to force awakens?" Another female lead makes it even more confusing for casual fans imo.

Sure, he saw the rise of the Empire. He was just a kid, but he saw it. He was born the same day as Luke and Leia. They were in the prequels too!

Why do you think he named his followers The Knights of Ren? As a reminder of his beloved Sabine, who clearly dies a gruesome death at some point, pushing him over the edge.

no, I'm not being serious. probably

What? What are you even talking about? He saw the *rise* of the Republic. So he was alive *before* the REPUBLIC was even a thing. So he is at least around a 1000 years old. All that Sabine shit is just random speculation. Ezra is a minor character in a minor Star Wars show.

That Whitaker speech about what she will become is just as bad as that "I rebel" line. The dialogue in general just doesn't look to be good.

I was instantly sold on Rey. Not feeling this lead. Gives me vibes of Emelia Clarke in Terminator which was god awful.

I hope that "I rebel" line isn't in the final film. Seemed like some YA shit. Not sure how I feel about the main actress yet and the dialogue.. which is hopefully much better than in the trailer. Aside from that, seems promising and there's some fantastic cinematography here. Imperial march at the end gives me goosebumps.

You can't be serious x-|

Snoke is older than anyone who has ever appeared in the Star Wars movies. He has seen the rise and fall of the republic and empire.

I'm sure Snoke's backstory will be revealed in Episode VIII, but I don't think he's Sith (Sith is gone).

I think he's actually Sifo-Dyas. We never technically saw a body to prove he's been dead.

No doubt a parallel to Jesus walking on water.

If I were to read into this, I might think that his mother had a virgin birth. Who else's mother had a virgin birth in the SW universe? This guy is a Sith!

Also his cape is an inversion of Vader's. This means he's opposite Vader. Or, Bizarro Vader? I hope he says things like "Me hate Vader, me want be Emperor apprentice, me jealous" and stuff.

Not sure I'm on board with how angsty and special-snowflake the main character likes to act, but the movie will probably do a better job of developing her so I'll give her the beneifit of the doubt until I see it. As of now though, I feel the same. Instantly took to Rey, this person I'm more feeling "You go ahead and keep drawing skulls in your notebook, I'm gunna go talk to someone who doesnt suck."

Everything else is looking pretty cool. God damn, walkers! I love walkers. I was disoriented as hell in the death star shot. I thought I was looking at a starfield that was shifting, couldnt figure it out until the wide shot. Should brighten up those shadows a little.

That did absolutely nothing for me. I guess it doesn't help I thought A New Hope and The Force Awakens were dreadfully boring and the only Star Wars I really really like is The Phantom Menace.

This looks cool. My only problem is that I wish it wasn't a Death Star story. I feel like I've seen enough Stormtroopers being blown to bits to last a lifetime.

Ben Mendelsohn gonna be amazing. No Vader stinger at the end is disappointing. Also no Mads :(

Sorry, this is from 12 pages ago so perhaps it's been addressed already, but when Forrest Whittacker says "What will you become?" at about 1:27, you can faintly hear Darth Vader's inhale and exhale. It's followed by the music quoting the Imperial March.

Besides all the rest, this movie has the ability to show what a badass Vader can be.

It could end with all but one of the guys dead in a fight against Vader. It could be an awesome and dark ending, that somehow still inspires hope when the data gets to the rebels. Hopefully Kyle looking dude is really Kyle and makes it - could get his force powers later.

ITT I learned that some people watch movies from a series more for "okay so what happens next" and less for engaging storytelling.

Knowing how something ultimately ends doesn't prevent it from being a great story experience. Otherwise, we'd rarely rewatch movies, reread books, etc.

Of course, who knows how this movie will turn out? However, "we know that they get the plans and the Death Star is blown up" shouldn't be cause for dismissal.

Agreed. I'd even say that sometimes knowing how it ends makes the journey more exciting, you know the destination and you're rapidly trying to connect the dots to see which route it's going to take to get there.

The Republic is 20,000 years old, is it not?

Still not hearing it. That's an echo from his dialogue, not Vader's breathing. The "be-COME" causes the echo that sounds Vader-ish, I guess.

Then again, only my left earbud works, so maybe there is a bunch of Vader in the right channel and I'm missing it.

EDIT: However, from the way that scene is shot and how the lights around her turn on, I could see that MAYBE being some kind of reveal shot. It's also possible it's a trailer-only shot, too. She almost looks straight into the camera.

Nah, I'm only use my right earbud and I'm not hearing anything like Vader breathing at any point. People are hearing what they want to hear.

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This looks even better than I imagined!

Rey characterization suffers from story set up really. They should've just explain who or how she is who she is in TFA rather than keeping it for future installments.
I don't disagree.
But she's not the only one that suffered from that movie's structure.
I guess it had just too much to juggle.

What, exactly, looks cheaper? These "looks worse than TFA" are extremely vague.

Production budget/cost =/= high production values and "look". Plenty of huge budget movies look like cheap shit and plenty of low budget movies look fantastic, in comparison.
Right from the first teaser, everything about TFA screamed "lavish grandeur" to me, this, not as much.
I'm not saying it looks like a direct to video film or anything, it's obviously a massive blockbuster, and some shots are gorgeous, but it's probably the more toned down color palette, or the more grounded locations.
At times it came off almost as a hard sci fi, more than a fantasy.

It looks very different though, and i like that.

I'm just saying that they can override it if they want to. They won't be telling Rian Johnson that he has to stick to what someone else wrote in a comic book. If they had a great idea that contradicted something in the non film canon, they could use it and the film would trump everything else.
Still wrong. Rian can't contradict anything from Star Wars media since Disney bought it, no matter how great the idea is. He doesn't have to reference any of it, either.

it looks ok but ill just skip this until digital release.

are there gonna be three spin offs in between the main movies... seems like over kill if you ask me.

Haha, the best thing about that trailer is Mark Hamills stone face afterwards at 1.30 during that little bit with Kathleen Kennedy.
