Persona 5 getting an announcement on May 5, 2016

I might have paid a little too much attention to the way the site is designed, so in alignment with the rumors I think the release date is
8/24/16
for JP.

If you're curious how I came to that conclusion:
pay attention to the number coloring, the fact it's all even/odd except for 0 and 1 can't be an accident. I expect them to reuse the same number images for the actual date announcement.

Can you explain this a little better? I'm not picking up on what you're saying

A week after Tales and a month before FF15 ? Isn't it too much ?

Calling it now.
  • New trailer
  • Slight delay this time from summer 2016 to fall 2016
  • US/EU will get it in winter
  • A bunch of merchandise is announced

P5 could end up milked more than P3/P4 ever was.

Fall 2016 means competing with FF15, unless is something like November.
US and EU I can see it at Early 2017 (and only on PS4 here)

A few rumors have claimed the game will release somewhere between Tales of Berseria and Final Fantasy XV.

Edit: In Japan of course. And given how Atlus USA is sticking with 2016, I think it's reasonable to expect a NA in 2016, and if not very early 2017. Sorry Europe.

Yes, because Atlus USA projections for Persona 5 certainly were right on the money in the past......

It's the reflection of the trees!

Hopefully us english speakers at least get it this year. Localization had to have already begun, possibly last year. I dont think there will be a very large disparity of time between the japanese and western release.

Does this mean we might get a Persona kart racing game? A snowboarding game? A Persona x Platinum crossover? Or -- dare I suggest it -- a From Software collaboration?

(I'm ok with all of this)

On the page's countdown clock, the numbers are either red or white. The red numbers are 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 - almost all the even numbers, except 1, which is odd (while 0, even, is white). The poster thinks they will use the red numbers to spell out the release date as 8/24/16.

what a horrible and nightmarish fantasy you got there xD

Teddie and Rise are my least favorite characters in P4.

april fools day was 21 days ago, you are fooling no one.

I think the Japanese release is definitely this year, and the rumor someone else provided the link to seems pretty believable. They've already said they were pretty close to being done and are in the polishing phase of the development, right?

I think the big question is whether US release will be this year or not. Lord I hope so!

Will P5 be treated by the media with the same reverence P4 got? Or are JRPGs so out of the mainstream in this day and age, they will treat it as antiquated? A vita release is one thing, but a new console version...

P5 was on quite a few 2016 most anticipated lists from gaming sites. A few years ago Keighley even said he was trying to get Atlus to let him show a trailer at the VGA/X's. It's going to receive far more attention from the media than any previous Persona.

I think the more respectable corners of the gaming journalism sphere have realized by now that the "JP GAME INDUSTRY DEAD - ALL GLORY TO OUR GLORIOUS WESTERN DEVELOPERS" schlock they were pushing in the mid-2000's was uncool and uncalled for.

I fully expect Polygon to give Persona 5 a thrashing for existing though. I look forward to Gies' review!

Well, there's the fact that now people are actually aware of Persona after years of brand building and more people getting to play P3 and P4. If P5 is an excellent game, whether JRPGs are antiquated or not in this day and age will be irrelevant.

Lost odyssey in particular got roasted for absolutely no reason cause of that shit, hated how the western industry was at that time.

I'd like to think that its a zero sum game, but biases inherent in people's attitudes can still shine through because of 'culture shock' and 'weirdness' inherent in experiencing something that is not necessarily what one is used to experiencing.

Mainstream gaming media like GameSpot and IGN were VERY hyped for this game. If they're not now, they will be upon the re-unveil.

played a persona game for the first time in the vita (P4G)... and I don't know how I haven't playied the games back in he day... that FF shadow must have been quite long to cover the amazingness of the persona series.

Now I'm willing to play P5 over FFXV.

I'm from EU and will buy it as soon as it releases in the US Store.

Hoping for a 2016 release... but I'm afraid Atlus is gonna be Atlus..

If it shapes up to be a good game, and I have high hopes that it'll be, then it'll most likely be well received by the media so I'm not too worried about that.

Whether it'll be quite as revered as its PS2 entries will probably depend on whether this entry is a significant step-up from them and a jump similar to what P3 was to P2 or if it just ends up being a refinement of the same formula they already stabilished. From what little they have given us it seems like they're being pretty ambitious with this project so I'm hoping for the best.

Though I do believe it won't get the same insanely high scores Persona 4 Golden got. I mean, a 93 metascore with 61 reviews is pretty crazy when you stop to think about it, specially for a JRPG in this day and age. Even The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne barely missed that mark so there's no way P5 is aiming that high. Hell, it'll be tough to reach P4 vanilla's scores considering score inflation in general seems a bit lower this gen compared to the previous one. My expectation is that it ends up somewhere in the 80-88 spectrum, which would be a damn good result all things considered.
But I'm still secretly hoping it breaks the 90s somehow lol

Atlas USA will stick with 2016 right until December 31st at 11:59:59 if Atlas Japan tells them to, or even doesn't give them anything at all.

Not to say that it can't happen, but don't take Atlas USA's silence as any sort of confirmation.

edit: Missed it being commented on already, lol.

Said by me earlier

. . .

That was a pretty terrible screw up, and since they have John shouting another date at everyone, they must be sure it releases this year. Just imagine the bad publicity if that were to happen again.

Is there any hope for a worldwide release? I mean they have to have been working on the localization for awhile now right? even before it was delayed?

It's a complete remake, I doubt it will be using the same script/localisation as the original.

I am quite sure that they've only tweaked the gameplay but mostly haven't touched the story, so they will definitely be able to work with the old localization. Otherwise it would seem strange to me why Odin Sphere would get this special treatment while other Atlus games didn't. Of course I might be wrong with this and we'll start seeing more EFIGS localizations more often from Atlus, but imo the only reasonable explanation is that a localized version already exists from the past.

I can already see the "coming in 2017" at the end of a 3 minute trailer with 20 seconds of gameplay and 2:40 of anime and cutscenes

Atlus could at least release Persona 3 and 4 with achievements for the PS4

I legit believe it'll be a WW release simply cause this is their biggest game yet and to have it spoiled for NA fans months in advance would be unacceptable
in my mind

Cool, a countdown for another countdown.

But seriously, all I really want is just a release date for this game. Even if it comes out after FFXV, I'll probably end up playing P5 first oddly enough.

This. I gotta keep the hope alive. I don't feel like digging out my PS3.

if they annouce a pc version , im gonna lose my shit

Yeah I was just kidding :p

It's probably gonna be an announcement regarding simultaneous launch worldwide later this summer, and possibly even a PC release.

Sorry guys but did I miss something? Were there rumblings of this franchise possibly coming to PC? First I've heard of it.
