I feel bad that I don't recognize the players older than Bradshaw on nfl.com's poll.

Bednarik is probably the last dominant full time two way player in the NFL. The award for best collegiate defensive player is named after him, also.

I'm going to have to assume you're not a college football fan to not be aware of Hornung. He doesn't get talked about much as far as his place in NFL history since he played before the Super Bowl era and, really, nobody from that time gets much attention. His name is synonymous with Notre Dame football though.

edit: That second part seems a bit odd since Bednarik played before Hornung. Still, I think the distinction of playing both linebacker and offensive line and being an all-time great at both gets him a little bit more attention. That, and Hornung had a more successful college career at the college football school in the nation, so he's bound to be thought of as a college player.

Yeah, I don't really like college football. I don't hate it, but it's like a cheap knock-off of pro football unless you're a fan of one of the giant programs, and I'm not.

Really though, who the fuck cares how you act off the field? A guy can be the nicest guy in the world (see Kurt Warner), but as soon as you start sucking on the field every fan will be calling for your head. Just like with any job it is about how well you perform.
The Rooney's certainly seem like a family that cares.

Steve Young wishes he had the career that Ben has had in his first 6 years!

And Alex wishes that he had Ben's hands and his skill with the ladies. On or off the field it makes no difference to the legend. He doesn't pay attention to the scoreboard and he never takes no for an answer. Alexis on the other hand tucks his dick between his legs at the first sign of trouble and runs for the bench.

And no more smack talk from Niners about the Steelers. Maybe a real team like Oakland or Kansas City that can actually boast of beating the Steelers in the last decade can talk shit about the greatest franchise in NFL history, but I won't stand for any crap from a Niner fan.

true to form, we fucking destroyed you in 2003 with tim rattay at starting qb.... this was on monday night football no less so the entire country got to see the kind of shitty organization the steelers have!

i bet the steelers wish they signed david carr. your starting qb going into the season is going to be dennis fucking dixon :lol :lol

Except that happened like a month and a half ago. Good thing Ben didn't hire you to find recent, relative info!

He bails and you start signing fucking retreads. BRING BACK LARRY FOOTE!

Well, seeing as how you can't hire free agents before free agency starts, it kind of makes since that it didn't happen till he left. Besides, the guy must be stupid for leaving and taking a promotion, who would ever do such a thing? Oh, and Timmons did a bang up job in Foote's place!

That was pre-Ben. And even before we had a legendary qb the Steelers still used to go to the AFC Championship every 3 or 4 years. True we would always lose at home, but compare our success with bum qb's to that of the Niners.

I believe we did own the Niners the last time we played them as we did the rest of the NFC West (also known as the UFL division).

And you, I and the Lord all know that Ben is going to start every game and get his 3rd Lombardi trophy after this season.

Glad to see Jake get another job and a shot at a starting gig. I think a change of scenery will serve him well and I hope he can get back to being the reliable guy who kept you in a game instead of threw you out of them.

I genuinely feel sorry for Browns fans. Nobody deserves this.

Well as a new NFL follower and a Browns fan things can only get better (I'm getting in at the ground floor, right?)

From the little I've read (and arguably little I've understood) this'll mean Quinn out and if we don't trade up to get Clausen (assuming Bradford #1 is a lock) we'll hope to get McCoy in the second or third. From what I've read people aren't too keen on Clausen for us just because it would require reducing the number of picks we have when we have so many needs, plus we should be using the best of those on our secondary.

(Did anything I just write make sense? First real attempt at a NFL-esque post :lol )

last time i checked there is only ONE undefeated superbowl team in history with 5 rings. we show up, unlike the stealers. although sometimes they don't show up and still get the refs to bail them out.

and you didn't own us in pittsburgh in 07. we got a bullshit call that turned the game completely around (vernon davis 30 yard gain inside the 5, then the cheap shot from polamalu which was ruled incomplete). and you beat us with us having perhaps the worst offensive coordinator i have seen in all my life at the controls. we're going to beat the shit out of you in 2011 (unless you make the superbowl this year, then we will do it then)

Wait a second. You're new to the NFL and choose the Browns? Are you masochistic? Most of us are born unto a team and live by that decision no matter what. Do you think rors CHOSE to be a Raiders fan? My god, man. Choose a team that might win a championship in your lifetime. Like the Chiefs.

Addendum: Dear Browns, :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

I chose the Redskins as my team, thankfully it was 1991 so I did see a championship in my lifetime.

Browns now a guaranteed lock for a single digit draft pick in the 2011 draft. I don't know why I didn't see this coming. It's classic Cleveland sports: bring in a respected higher up, a guy with experience that the fans can believe in, then make a couple shrewd personnel moves to make the fans think you really can bring them a respectable team, then drop the anvil by making a horrific free agent signing. Cleveland sports: like Robin Williams description of the green in golf: "Right near the end I'll put a flat place with a little flag to give you fuckin' hope. But then I'll put a pool and sandbox to fuck with your ball again!"

The Niners just had a good run for a decade. I wouldn't consider them a great franchise. They just road the coattails of Joe Montana and then Jerry Rice was able to carry Steve Young's pathetic corpse to a then impressive 5th win. So the Niners were great in the 80s, not any greater then the Steelers in the 70s, and got a Deion Sanders and Jerry Rice SB in the 90s and other than that they really never did shit and probably won't do shit again. Joe Montana is not coming through that door.

The Steelers on the other hand have been dominant from the 70s, 90s and now the 00s. While we didn't win the SB in the 90s, Cowher was able to get to the AFC Championship a half dozen times with bums like Neil Odonnel and Kordell Stewart.

Also, we did own you in 07 like we will continue to own that half dead franchise every time we meet with Ben behind center. I mean what the fuck how do you consider that a close game? The Steelers won by like 20 points or something insane. It isn't the Steelers fault that the Niners had a joke offensive coordinator. No one has any mercy in the NFL, which is seen by the Niners record since York took over.

I guess the Delhomme signing makes sense. As long as you don't give him a chance to choke in the playoffs, he's serviceable. Luckily the Browns won't have that problem.

lol the niners were a dominant team in the 80's, and they were in competition basically every year in the 90's.

the steelers were absolutely INVISIBLE in the 80's, and aside from choking away a few AFC championship games to pathetic competition and failing to show up for a superbowl they didn't do dick in the 90's. so basically, the steelers had 20 years of being a pathetic organization with nothing to show for it. we are halfway there, but our luck is going to change!

and yes, it was a double digit loss but we threw a pick 6 late in the game and got robbed of a TD drive by that old fucking official who has no business on a football field. you guys always get bullcrap home cooking in pittsburgh. except when the raiders come to town :lol

At least Snyder tries to win. He's a dumbass, but at least he's trying.

Hey the Steelers were a Deion Sanders and a serviceable backup qb like Steve Young from winning a SB in the 90s as well. No one got to and lost more AFC Championships (at home no less) with less. When you look at what we were working with at qb I consider Cowher to be a genius and the Steelers to be pretty damn successful in the 90s.

And please never talk about that game from 2007 and pretend that the Niners ever had a chance to win that game. They lost that game before they stepped onto the field. If I am going to continue to respect you as an NFL you have to come out and admit that the Niners did not belong on the same field as the Steelers that day.

49ers winning percentage during the 00s: .423

Steelers winning percentage during the 90s: .573 (was exactly .500 during the 80s)

That being said, the Steelers had the 4th best record in the 70s and the 49ers had the best record by a large margin in the 80s and 90s.

Though, to be fair, the Steelers have the best record since the merger and the 49ers are 6th best.

Looks like Jake's gonna be given every chance to be the starter, Browns are paying him $7 mil for 2010-11 season.

I would say I'm glad Holmgren is our GM but it isn't like Pete Carroll is that great either.

I'm laughing at the Walrus continuing to run Cleveland even further into the dirt. Can't wait until he spends weeks crying about the refs while they lose games by double digit points. Browns fans better hope he sits in the suites better than he patrols a sideline, but I doubt it.

And what's the deal with arguing with FMT? It's like beating up a cripple, yeah you could do it, but why?

has it already been posted that jake delhomme is making $19 million this season? (12 mil from the panthers that was guaranteed, 7 mil from the browns)

did the panthers GM go to the matt millen school of GM-ing?
