Thats me. To me, the worst night ever is stuck watching some athletic competition, all of them (yes, even the Olympics).

But god damn, I fucking love sports docs. Especially the HBO stuff. I can watch Real Sports over and over. And that recent Larry Bird/Magic doc was totally awesome.

For me sports docs are basically further insight and knowledge to either an amazing game or an amazing player/team. Sports docs are like the compliment to sports itself for me.

You sound like a man who has never watched The World Cup.

;)

I love sports, but have to chime in the Larry Bird/Magic Johnson HBO Sports documentary piece is fantastic. Whoever does these for HBO Sports is amazing.

Random question: i don't have tv... are games being streamed live online now? After seeing tons of free baseball/basketball/football games for free in the last year (due to my job), I've regained my interest :D

Watching any games is about as fun to me as watching paint dry.

I could watch Real Sports all day though. Perfect lazy Sunday TV.

Nope.

In my personal opinion, anyone who doesn't like sports is an idiot. Playing sports/watching sports is probably the best thing ever (with sex being the best).

I resonably enjoyed playing baseball/volleyball/dodgeball/etc when I was younger. But even when I played on teams, it was still boring as fuck to actually watch them on TV.

I can't even imagine a life without watching/playing sports.

Each game tells a chapter and each season is story. Twists and turns, heroes and villains and an ending that is different every single time.

I kind of like sports but I loved the ESPN documentary about the University of Miami's football program. I guess that counts.

hurr hurr people who don't spend hours a week watching sports on tv and following player stats is a retard hurrr

Playing sports and having an actual real-life involvement in sports is one thing, but people who think of themselves as more interesting/manly/cool because they plan every day around watching "the game" and the only thing they read is the sports section (which is about as relevant and important as E! News) make me weep for humanity. My favorite are the people who can talk about nothing but sports and inject "I" and "We" into conversations about "their" team as if under some delusion that they play for them or are their offensive coordinator or some shit.....it's so cute.

It's on a sport-by-sport basis for me.
Volleyball is amazingly fun to play, but is kind of boring to watch.
Baseball's the opposite for me, don't really like playing it, love watching it.

Meh, nothing wrong with not liking/following sports. Everyone has their own interests. But I love me some sports, and sports docs just substantially add onto that. The recent ESPN 30 for 30 work has been excellent, and Hoop Dreams may be my fav movie ever.

My friend klaus (who i consider the laziest person on earth) moves as less as possible.
He smokes 2 packs a day and he drives the 10 meters (I'm not joking) to the next cigarette automat when he is out of cigs.
funny that he loves to watch sports on TV. he watches every soccer match and every olympia broadcast and knows just every player by name.

I cant stand to watch male soccer but love watching woman soccer. So I have a strange habit also.

:lol

Such needless pretension. Everyone has different hobbies, and if people who really enjoy sports are what makes you weep for humanity, imagine what others think about gamers posting on an internet message board.

What's the connection between not liking sports and being an idiot? Contradicting yourself in one sentence seems like a better connection with idiocy.

My post was in response to "anyone who doesn't watch sports is an idiot", not to people in general who have a normal, healthy amount of interest in watching sports. What I described does not fall into the latter category.

And yes, gaming-sales-gaf makes me weep for humanity as well.

The worst thing about sports is the weird cult of personality surrounding it: Like if you don't like videogame that's fine I accept that, however sports fans can't seem to accept that theres anyone in the world who could not love sports as much as them.

my favorite sports documentary is Field of Dreams...
Mine is Space Jam, which just goes to show why Jeffrey is the greatest human being to ever live. Won 6 titles AND saved the planet. Beat that, Kobe.

watching and playing sports is amazing, it makes up a big part of my life. The documentaries, especially the 30 in 30 series from ESPN is really really good.

Also, this years NCAA tournament has been by far the best out of my five years of watching it.

I love playing Basketball, hate watching it.

Same here! Put your fat ass out the coach and start running after a ball! For me, there are very few things better than playing basket and rollerblading (aside for sex and videogames :lol)

How weird! I just finished viewing "Harvard Beats Yale 29-29" on Netflix.

I love playing sports, as well as watching sports in real-time and in movies. :-D

I am curious is sports hating, organized team sports, or any physical activity.

However there should be rules about what is and what is not a sport.

I find it curious that some can hate sports, yet love sports documentaries. Many of the same things that make sports great (investment in "characters", triumph, tragedy, unpredictability) are the same things that make these docs entertaining.

To the OP, I suggest you pick a sport you find most entertaining, do a little research, and pick a team to follow. I predict you'll be a "fan" before you know it.

I find them all equally boring.

I love playing sports but I don't bother watching most of them except MMA and occasionally football. I can see why you find documentaries interesting but the sport themselves a bore. I think that's with any subject though when presented in documentary form. It's fascinating to delve "behind the scenes" and clockwork of specific topics/subjects.

I don't hate sports but I would rather watch a sports documentary than a game. But above all that I'd watch a good drama like Friday Night Lights. :D

Why is this so shocking? What does it add to my life when the team of millionaires who I don't know from my townputs the ball inside the hoop more times than the team of millionaires who I don't know from another town?

Wow. How? I gotta admit I would say the same about basketball or soccer, but do you not like any of them?

there's nothing crazy about this. a sports documentary takes the drama of an entire span of time and distills it to an hour, two hours, or possibly even less. the thing about watching sports is that you have to have the patience to stick with it over a long period of time, and to find the human drama that underlies the whole thing. without personal investment, sports seem very hollow. documentaries show you why sports are great. i can understand if you don't have the time investment though.
