Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

More GPU power is never pointless even more so with VR on the way .
If MS goes with better CPU it's not like it going to get take advantage of really .
Just look at PC version of games for the last few years .

A new CPU would help get to that 60fps magical number along with the graphics upgrade a lot easier.

that was never my point. my original point was that I could see them removing the HDMI-in as a way to further confirm their "its all about the games" image

hell they could even offer an HDMI-in adapter or something for people that really want it

I think you are more likely to see the HDMi-in on a premium model (along with speech support) and a base model without it.

That's if actually removing the HDMi in is a cost saver vs having to support/manufacture yet more hardware variations

Yeah, if MS launches in 2017 and there's not a Zen derivative inside, you have to scratch your head - unless it really breaks the compatibility scheme they're shooting for. Yet, they are much more prepared to have Xbox as a platform, so I could see it.

I'm sure AMD appreciates more frequent design work, at least.

That is only if the game is CPU bound .
This gen has been good for 60fps comapre to last gen at the cost of gfx which the better gpu will help with .
I agree that these cpu are weak but it is better to spend more on the budget of the gpu .

EDIT since MS coming out next year they can get best of both .
But if time table gets mesd up i rather they go with gpu power .

Information below is what I used to make my statements.
XB1(1.32 T-flops) to PS4 (1.84 T-flops) = 39.4% difference
Neo (4.14) to Scorpio (5.28 to 6**) = 27.5%>>Scorpio≤44.9%
*Wiki articles flop count could be different due to different clock speeds of the measured cards
**As Kotaku’s information gives a range of between 5-6 T-flops and Polygon indicates that the Scorpio would be over 4 times more powerful (they also state its 6 T-flops) than XB1 I choose to use a range that reflected currently available information to more accurately describe the relative percent difference.
All numbers are rounded thus approximate

So based on the data you just provided, scorpio could be as much as 45% more powerful than Neo, a difference that's more significant than XB1 and PS4, said difference gamers expected a lot from developers, and if rumors are true, we could be expecting more so now, so my point still stands. Your post comes off as very defensive for no reason.

I would bet that they keep the HDMI-in but don't ever utter a word about it.

Not really. A much better cpu will guarantee that all ps4 games run at 60fps on new hardware. With ps4k rumored cpu is gonna be a headache and most developers will skip on that, I really hope sony delays neo And matches Scorpio specs.

If you're a betting man or woman (or other) you'd go with the Xbox this go around. We've seen tides shift before and PlayStation is in every position to fall off right now.

A new CPU is a must but is Zen really the only option for a upgrade?

They have a few more options, but none of them generally compare to Zen according to AMD's information. They are more like marginal upgrades to Jaguar than significant leaps.

And if they are talking about a notable jump, Zen is essential

???

The CPU jump would help FPS both in GPU limited and CPU limited games.
If they are talking about a large upgrade path, that is essential

I'd be pissed if they removed it. Its one of the main reasons I buy all multiplats on the Xbox One isntead of the PS4

??? They don't have the choice to 'skip' on Neo unless they aren't making PS4 games in general, which is not going to happen.

The fact of the matter is, PS4 and XB1 CPU's will continue to be the baseline development for games, and Scorpio's CPU will be limited in really stretching its wings outside of FPS.

I can see them calling it Xbox X ("Ex") but the "X" also playing on "10" (Windows 10) and "convergence". It'll rely on its extra horsepower to play Windows games natively (Windows, Steam, Oculus VR) but still play existing and new Xbox One games, similar to how the PS4K vs PS4 is rumoured to pan out.

This is not the truth it's devs that will decide on that .
A better CPU does not mean everyone going to do 60fps .

I don't see 60 fps ever being standard, it'll more likely shoot for 4K @ 30 over 1080 (or close) @ 60.

I don't think devs will be making games that are 4k/30fps and that's it. 4k Screens are increasing in sales at an incredible rate, but the majority of people still run on 1080p screens. What I believe will happen is that games will have a 4k/30fps option, if you have a 4k TV you can decide if you want 4k/30fps or 1080p/60fps. Games will be made to scale to the hardware since games will also be compatible with base Xbox One models.

The fact of the matter is, an i7 comparable Zen CPU is going to run current gen games at 60fps easily if we look at the PC versions of those components.

If they are limited by current gen standards, a console with that CPU will do those games at 60fps.

This is interesting. How are they in every position to fall off right now?

And by "right now" you mean "Fall 2017".

I can understand people getting excited by this rumor, but the actual product is about a year and a half away.

That's gamblers fallacy.

I think we need to see what games will look like on both systems and what services they provide before any of us can come to an educated decision. Hopefully at E3 we get at least a glimpse at both.

if there gonna make there games run on ps4, these scorpio specs with a zen cpu, should be able to run them easily with much better graphics, and IQ at 60fps , it shouldn't take much of a effort at all, just like pc has options, i'm sure consoles will do the same.

I don't see 60 fps ever being standard, it'll more likely shoot for 4K @ 30 over 1080 (or close) @ 60.

i actually see 60fps or 4k option becoming a standard, i see consoles being more like pc now. we are already starting to get options in ps4/xbone games, but the hardware is so weak, the options are limited.

I can't hardly justify buying another PS4, even if it's an upgraded one, but since I don't have an XB1 and have been looking for cheaper alternatives for VR than building a powerful PC, honestly I might just buy one these, especially if it's in the $400ish range, and more so if they can bundle it with an Oculus or something.

I look at it this way, Playstation isn't going to do any better then it currently is. It's selling well, therefore they have the most to lose bringing out a new revision or Xbox doing the same.

What good is having the beefiest box gonna do me if i prefer the oppositions game offerings best?, and what makes you think that "Playstation is in every position to fall off right now"?

I'll go 4K when there is content for me to use at 4K.

4K TVs are already dirt cheap, so it's not going to take long, especially amongst enthusiasts.

I strictly bought mine to use with my computer and 4k computer gaming.

There isn't much streaming content and the blurays are insanely priced.

I honestly didn't know 4K blu ray were on sale. Anyone seen one?

The players or movies? I know a lot of things out now or are releasing soon are already offering the UHD version, for instance I got the UHD version of Deadpool with the standard Blu-ray for $19.99.

This, Titanfall 2 and Gears are my main hype things for E3 this year. For some reason though I don't think they've going to mention Scorpio at all at E3 this year and save a secondary event later closer to Neo's release.

this might sound like a stupid question but since xbox is running windows 10, can you use scorpio like a pc? like play pc games on steam, and emulators.

I honestly didn't know 4K blu ray were on sale. Anyone seen one?

Yes, they are $400 for the REAL 4k blu-ray players.....don't be fooled by the cheaper ones that just upscale the image from 1080pto4k.

That's why if Sony or Microsoft get these consoles out sooner with 4K capability they will fucking take off like hot cakes. They will cost around the same as current 4k players and do an insanely more amount of tasks and have way more features.

Power is largely not the reason MS is getting beaten worldwide. Playstation won't really be affected by Xbox having the most powerful box again.

In general, what did the most damage to Sony at the beginning of 7th gen was their own hubris, inflated price tag and lackluster games, and console that was hard to work with. None of this being the case today.

largely no, but the lack of power was clearly a trade off for their OS features which were very anti-gaming Don Mattrick bullshit

Relaunch with better hardware adhering to the philosophy of the xbox 360 is the right way to go, but it's hard to say how a relaunch like this will go over with everyone
