Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

That's exactly what they do. Let me rephrase. You can actually order a few hours later.

It's better than Amazon and BH taking orders for weeks with no indication on when they'll ship. Then having Newegg beat them by days at this point, and without tax for most people.

Meh. Honestly I don't know if I agree. At least if the page was searchable, I could occasionally refresh it to check stock or put it on a wish list. As it is, if you type in 1070, or even something more specific like Zotac 1070, you'll get only results for the 1080 and other ancillary, or wholly unrelated products. Only being able to get to that Zotac 1070 from a direct link seems bizarre to me.

use nowinstock.net.

Nice dude! How much? Seeing a 1070 available is super encouraging.

It was $450. Just happened to be looking at my phone when I got the text message from Nowinstock.com. Twas just a fluke. I refresh the page seconds after getting my order in and it was already sold out. Couldn't have been more than 3 minutes.

Great card but the price is way too high going by what it listed on Newegg ($720), considering all the other options. For that price I would expect additional features like dual bios but it's even lacking that.

Yea, he rips it a little at the end there. Glad I went with the EVGA SC and saved some money for games (DOOM!!!!)

Yep, it pretty much confirms what people were suspecting. All the voltage in the world isn't going to give you great overclocks on pascal until custom bios come along.

but even the HOF unlocked only managed 2.2 on air. The Kingpin hit 2.8 on LN2, but that's not realistic for gaming. Sounds like the ACX 3.0 is all you need.

so founders edition OC better than the msi gaming X with a 6+8 pin. didnt see that coming. but maybe some gaming X could Oc better? luck of the draw

Yeah, looks like OC potential is not in any way limited by the 8pin only design on the FE, at least in cases where you aren't using custom BIOS to blow past the voltage limit. It's gonna be silicon lottery if you're the one that can hit 2.1ghz on air like Nvidia did in its demo.

True but for that much money over the other AIB cards who's willing to play luck of the silicon draw? MSI plz.

My hype for this card is gone, it costs £50 extra over here.

It's all a bit messed up tbh, at the moment the battle is around fan noise and heat. Power pins and overclocking ability seems a completely moot point, but yeah dual bios's seems to be the only way forward, and the ONLY reason I'm sticking with FTW.

Well on the bright side, I won't feel bad doing something like buying the cheapest Zotac or whatever, if I'm going to end up with the same performance as some dude rocking a FTW. Though I'll think I'll go EVGA purely due to warranty this time, though I can't say I had complaints with my Zotac GTX 770.

I ordered the Gigabyte G1 from Newegg when the listing first went up on Monday night (thank you, based nowinstock). Do you guys think I should contact Newegg to see if I can get that mouse deal? I could use a new gaming mouse.

Also, what's better, the Gigabyte G1 or that MSI Gaming Z? Haven't really seen any active listings for the MSI and just pounced on that G1 when I could.

i'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to this but that mad the MSI card sound really bad. Has he done a similar video with the FTW or Strix?

The point Jay was making in the video is that the individual coolers/power supply that the cards have has no bearing on the OC for GTX 1080's. It's purely silicon lottery, a FE can OC better than a FTW, a FTW can OC better than a FE, flip that coin. The coolers only real role here is to keep a consistent OC by keeping the heat in check at reasonable noise levels, which is the one major are the FE seems to struggle in.

Yon can try but they said the mouse deal was only for the ones that went up earlier today.

I'm starting to wonder how much bearing the new GPU Boost has on OC? I never really saw it mentioned anywhere but Jay said it caused the voltage to fluctuate quite a bit (for no obvious reason?). Guess we'll see once BIOS modding becomes a thing. At any rate this should happen before the FTW is available here so it will give me some time to think about it all.

(Also lol at the idiots commenting on the MSI video to buy a RX 480 instead, dafuq)

Was thinking of getting a GTX 1070 but decided instead to get a EVGA GTX 1080 ACX 3.0 non SC edition, I can overclock it on my own and save $30.

Is that only in the US? In the UK we only seem to have FE, SC, FTW, Classified - no ACX without SC

Yup, all of the prices over here in the UK are taking the piss. That's why I'm on the verge of getting this one. £90 cheaper than the Asus Strix and only 38MHz less boosted clockspeed out of the box.

I had narrowed down my selection to the Asus Strix, the EVGA FTW and the Inno3D iChill X3 but the prices of the first two are fucking ridiculous.

I hate living in the UK, wish I could move to the States :o(

Nah I was gunning for the 1080 superclocked. I actually got order confirmation, and then order cancellation literally 60 seconds later. It was incredibly bizarre. I'm beginning to wonder what the stock situation is.

Same thing happened to me yesterday and they voided my order twice after I got a confirmation. Finnaly got lucky a third time and it took. Easy way to tell if it actually went through before they send a voided email is to check your order history on your account page If it doesn't show up...it's only a matter of time before you get the dreaded Order voided email.

Why not a gigabyte g1? £559 at Amazon uk. I was tempted by the inno but I don't think a 2.5 slot card will fit in my prodigy

The guy from OCUK said that he reckons that there isn't a great deal of overclocking potential on these cards because NVidia's speed boost thingummybob is VERY efficient leaving not a great deal of overclocking headroom. From what I've seen and read here and there the average 1080 will overclock to 2050MHz. That's partly why I'm thinking of getting either the Inno3D iChill Air Boss X3 or X4. It doesn't help the other cards that their manufacturers are taking the piss with pricing either.

Had a look on Overclockers and no sign of it's clockspeeds, and as Ikuu has just said, the price has gone up now.

I'm beginning to think that the Inno3D cards will go up soon too. They all seem to be rising in price which is a major pain in the arse. :o(

I had an older lower end Asus monitor before. As good as the 1080 is it can't hold a steady 60 fps at 4k (most games). Moving to the xb271hk comes a better quality panel than what I had as well as the perceived feeling of a steady smooth frame rate.

I also looked at the pg27aq but reviews seem to say the xb1 has a better panel (better contrast etc). It could be just out of the box settings, I'm sure both are pretty equally great.

Overall pairing the 1080 with gsync feels like the upgrade I was hoping for due to no more janky framerate variance.
Thank you for this. Pretty sure you just sealed my purchase for me! I'm pumped that 4K gaming is finally mostly viable, can't wait to put the rest of this rig together.

I put newegg on blast on twitter and got a response from a CS rep who said to email or DM them the situation. I DM'd them and I'm awaiting response. If they can't help, I'll call and ask to speak to a CSM..if that gets me nowhere, I'll start refreshing for one again.

To be fair, for a lot of people AA isn't necessary at 4k, let alone 8x. Anything above 2x and you're just talking about maxing out for the sake of maxing out unless you have a 40+ in screen.

unless your 4k screen is iphone sized theres still a huge need for aa. and 2x to 4xaa is a good jump in quality. 8xaa however has always shown very small differences. even at 1080p. i wasnt considering 8xaa at all, or any resolution scaling for that matter, so its a moot point for this particular discussion

I swear Amazon is gonna cancel my $611 G1 preorder because fuck me
All these price hikes are worrying me

Shouldn't be an issue. Amazon almost always honors orders that go through. Among the online retailers, they are the least likely to try and score a quick buck by price gouging a customer.

Even the Fury X was laughing at that overclock offset...

I'm starting to think that overclockers should just buy the cheapest card and move on. I also think that Nvidia was pulling some cherrypicking shenanigans with reviewers.

Not everyone feels that way. You may be more sensitive than most people.

lol more coil whine

You don't spend 700 dollars to get coil whine

what is it with gpus these days and having coil whine... been gaming on pc for 15 years and have NEVER experienced coil whine on any pc (either mine or friend's) until my gtx 970

yeah looks like I will be returning mine.

Not about that coilwhine, I should have stayed true to my EVGA
