Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Well, I've put in another order for a Palit Super Jetstream 1080, as it seems the Asus Strix isn't arriving anytime soon.
The card only has 1 HDMI out though, which is a bummer.

I assume you were reading the same Reddit thread. If you were, hopefully you get one of those five cards this week, I was very close to ordering one. The Super Jetstream cooler on 980 Ti was excellent so hopefully the 1080 one is much the same. Palit isn't well-known brand in most of the world but they have produced and sold cards for years just like any other company and now that their coolers are up to par with the best, should be a solid choice.

edit: Oh damn, 15? I should have ordered one.

From OCUK regarding FTW:

Thankyou for your webnote, current ETA is 17/06 due to delays at Nvidia with the processing units and the worldwide demand being so high. This is an ETA and subject to change.

Regards

Scan also just out up the SC ACX for preorder saying they expect 50 units in on the 17th

Yes. My 6850K is already traveling in my direction
(I'll probably regret going with this upgrade but I've waited since last autumn already to change my main gaming platform since it started to misbehave so fuck it)
.

Sounds like Kaby Lake and Zen won't be until Q1 2017 either way so...

Well, they've now told another person (on that reddit thread), that they'll only get 3. And on Twitter they've told me it'll be a very limited shipment and they don't know when the shipment will arrive.

So... I have no freaking clue. This is confusing the hell out of me.

Yeah, this, plus I'm not really expecting much of a performance gain compared to BWE from either. My biggest doubt is do I need 40 lanes of 6850K or will 28 of 6800K be enough? I've decided to play it safe hoping that the price difference won't be noticeable over the length of me using that platform.

Have a gigabyte g1 preordered with Amazon, but could preorder this one just in case Amazon don't get any in for a while. Do scan charge immediately for preorders?

Edit: wait - this isn't the SC? So it's a reference board at stock clocks but custom cooler from the SC?

I think they are in stock now, so you would get it tomorrow. I believe the title is wrong, as it was updated today to have stock.

I believe that's not a Superclocked, just a normal AC3. Superclocked is a bit more expensive - https://www.scan.co.uk/products/evg...core-vr-ready-graphics-card-with-white-led-li

If you're buying off these robbing cunts be sure to phone them afterwards to make sure they have stock to allocate for your order Reddit is reporting they are taking money when they know they don't have stock again. Most certainly don't cancel any pre-orders until they dispatch.

I rang them and they said that was a 'special batch at a low price' which were all gone, and they have another 52 orders at the new price of £630, with a batch of 50 due tomorrow. Not sure I believe the special batch bollocks unless EVGA are putting their price up - more likely scan putting it up. They do expect some MSI gaming in tomorrow and gigabyte G1 today (only have two preorders so far but it is a stupidly expensive price so the can fuck off as much as I want one

Considering the price of other retailers Scan.co.uk are just fucking snakes putting up the price. I can't warn people enough to avoid them.

Yet another ETA delay for the FTW across the few shops I monitor. All ETAs moved to early JULY now.
I think at this point I'll probably just snag the next best partner card available, fuck this "launch".

Well I just bought the 27" 1440 144hz g sync monitor that was posted on gaf a bit earlier. I figured I might as well utilize the GTX 1080 properly that I have on order.

How far down does this rabbit hole go?

I bought a Samsung 3440x1440 Curved 34" monitor to go with mine. This hole goes pretty deep

So here is what that vertical bar looks like that I was getting with the EVGA SC in certain games. It was always showing on the left part of the screen when running games, flashing different colors. I went to check and see if somehow SLI was enabled, and saw this in the 3D settings, which perfectly captures what it was doing.

After another bit of panic, I unistalled the drivers again, restarted and installed them. The block is now gone.

I've scaled my OC back considerably at this point. I'm doing +125 core, and no memory overclock. That's good for 2114 clock playing Rocket League 1440p 144hz max settings, and settles at 2088 playing Doom 1440p 144hz max settings.

So I guess Classified Will come in like september then....

Jesus. Mine's sitting at +110 right now, starts getting driver errors at 120, and I thought that was pretty damn good.

+125 being 'scaled back' is just insanity. Congrats!

What are you using to OC, and are you changing the voltage at all? Also, what are your temps like?

I'm using MSI afterburner because EVGA XOC is a glitchy mess for me. Crashes my computer with a pagefault whenever I start the auto-OC tool, and apparently a lot of other people are having the same problem. Stock voltages, ~70-75C ingame.

My PC is over 3 years old so I think it's time to upgrade. I've decided to get a 1080 although I'm not sure which model to get here in the UK and where from. What do you suggest?

I'm not in a rush to get anything this month. Just as long as I have it from 4th July so I'm happy to preorder the FTW or SC for example.

My motherboard is the Asus Maximus v extreme with i7 3770k and 8gb ram. Should I go for 16gb ram? I don't think the board and CPU need upgrading.

I am trying to use precision X, but it does kind of suck. I don't really know what to do with that voltage slider. Literally everytime Precision OC restarts it puts the voltage meter to the top. I saw Jaytwocents had his at 0, which is where I set mine, but it keeps going back. So, I dont know what to do with that.

My core clock is scaled back slightly. My mem clock is completely back. I felt like with each +100 I was getting 1-2C on the temps, so I just left it at zero. This keeps my temps around 70C. In Doom, after about 20 minutes they start to creep into 72,73,74 territory. If I play rocket league, my temps are mid 50s, 60s maybe.

Is there any way on nowinstock.net to remove items from being tracked? I have no interest in the FEs so keep having to manually check the 'in stock' items which are nearly always FEs

Cancelled my 1080 this launched is just so botched up, will just go for 1070 FE since I'm on 1440p with Gsync and then wait it out for the Ti. Or if I can score a cheap 980Ti....maybe I'll do just that.

I know shortages at launch are always a problem but we don't even know when certain cards are being released. Plus supply has been low so this isnt overwhelming demand which is keeping cards from being purchased by new buyers. Worst video card launch in a long time.

You think the 1070 launch/supply will be any better? lol.

Result of nVidia moving to a new node.

Just set up your own stock alerts with a browser extension. VisualPing is pretty good, although you're likely to get false positives no matter what you use. NowInStock is pretty much useless these days; half the time things will be sold out by the time you get a notification.

Best option is to just write your own newegg scraper. Working on one right now; no promises, but I'll see if I can find a way to make it work for GAF as well.

Well seems like people have had better luck snagging FE's than the custom AIB's. So maybe a bit better? Just didn't want to spend $700 on a 1080 that ....too rich for me.

Kind of want to get the G1 for £600 but after seeing it on Amazon for £560, I'm inclined not to pay any higher. The temptations!

Ebuyer being fucking heros to UK buyers this week. Only company to non piss about with this pre-order bullshit.

Lucky. Amazon nor Gigabyte have answered me about the release of their G1 since I asked the beginning of this week. I keep seeing some Gaffers stating it's the end of this week or next week. I need to know if I'll have it tomorrow or Saturday before I go out of town.

Well, depending on when the 1070 launches and starts shipping, the 1080 AIB stock problem might be closer to being resolved. Guess we'll have to see!

I should've opt'd for Newegg's 2 day shipping... Usually in the past they've always shipped from NJ and was 2 day's for me anyway. This time my card is coming from CA.

I'm kinda leaning that direction too (although I'm 1080 144Hz and VR). I guess it'll come down to whatever I can get first. I had planned on getting the 1080 Strix, but I doubt I'll be around for the 12 second that they're available. I'm thinking the 1070's will be a little less in demand and there won't be as many problems getting them. I'll use the "saved" money to buy a new motherboard to start my upgrade to SkyLake.

Yeah definitely feels like there's less demand for the 1070. Just going off the pace of comments in the 1070 review thread and the nowinstock page. Nothing compared to that of the 1080.
