USF4 being on PS4 had NOTHING to do with that deal. Sony were the ones who hired a developer to do the port. Capcom didn't even handle the PS4 port of that.
As i've already told you, you're looking at remasters as some sort of indicator of development intent, when there is no real correlation - its a profit avenue for them. The reason they are focused on mainly digital releases for these remasters going forward is specifically to cut cost & further mitigate risk.
In fact, the other major exclusive rumor that multiple people have hinted at would fly specifically against your thesis.
At least it's a real reboot, which was really necessary. People will be suprised and I'm somewhat curious about the reactions. Oh well. Both Sony and MS sound really great so far. And yet there is still so much more stuff.I just wait for the first reports of people getting real heart attacks because of VR.

If it was announced that USF4 was coming to PS4 and XBO, but SF5 was PS4 only, do you think USF4 would sell at all on XBO?
You don't dangle a carrot in front of people (which these remakes/ports are, believe it or not) and then say 'no, you don't get the carrot after all this trouble trying to catch it.'
From a profit POV, it's terrible business because those people who aren't getting that shiny new toy at the end of the road are going to say 'you know what? I'm not buying anything from you anymore.' You've cut off a good amount of your consumers simply by saying halfway through a process 'we don't want your money anymore, even though we really need it.'
Insiders should spill what they know. This site made its name for being the first source for gaming news, people complaining about leaks here is absurd. Presumably they would rather every news thread is based on a press release.

I'm think Capcom is alright with this business model. Sure it limits their earning potential, but it also almost completely eliminates the risk of any losses. It's a radically conservative strategy, but it seems to be working for them.

All I can gather is tomorrow is going to be real safe and predictable or some real big dramatic stuff will happen. There wont be a middle ground.
I wonder if MS has something actually unexpected. Seems like they want to make a big noise here and probably want some big game reveal along side the Slim + price cut.

Given what ETDP said (VR referring to the origins of the project), I doubt it's the "real RE7" that is exclusive. Also because...in the hypotesis it releases early next year, I fear one console and PC wouldn't be enough for the game to reach the forecasted 4 millions of shipment as of March 31st, 2017. Even implying there will be overshipment (not as egregious as SFV's channel stuffing though), especially if it releases in February/March.

Well...it is RE6. Most people expect RE4/5 to sell better because they're better games.
But the reality is consumers aren't going to buy something if they know they're getting the short end of the stick. So if Capcom says 'no RE7 for you XBO' the amount of copies of RE4/5 they can sell there is going to be cut down.

I think if this was back then, and a remaster was being made of USF4 on PS4 & X1 by Capcom, then we find out SF5 is announced, it wouldn't have mattered, cause remasters usually steer clear from their subsequent release's marketing cycle. You weren't hearing of Rise of the Tomb Raider on X1 while SE was gearing up to sell you TR Definitive Edition on PS4/X1. In fact, Ono even said they had planned to bring a port of USF4 to X1/PS4, but then the Sony deal for SFV got signed, but Street Fighter is in an interesting position because the CPT basically makes them only support 1 game, and SFV was going to be it.
As for driving your audience away - the biggest platform & audience for SE for their upcoming slate is going to be on Playstation. That includes Deus Ex, FFXV, and all the other western & JP developed titles they have in the pipeline. The users were upset about the ROTR deal, but it didn't drive them away from buying SE products.
Also, there really is no indication that people are only buying remasters because a potential sequel in that series is upcoming. The audience is just buying games they like. Remasters are fantastic because they make great sales items to include on digital sales - the development cost has long since been written off, it's digital only meaning you're not dealing with retail cost, and it usually drives in a boat load of customers who may not have a copy of that game on said platform.
If some posters on this site are withholding information not because of contractual reasons but just to make the conferences more exciting then in my opinion that's basically astroturfing.
Insiders knew/shared very little about Sony's E3 last year too.
People seem very confident that this isn't going to happen, which seems very strange considering the evidence seems pretty balanced on both sides as to whether it exists or not.
How much better do you expect the other two to sell exactly? It's not like RE6 was so bad that everyone stayed clear of it. I can't see sales surpassing 100K for either of the two, really.
In addition, I believe Primethius was also trying to say that sales for RE6 was heavily favouring the PS4, so Capcom doesn't lose much if the XB1 fanbase refuse to buy the remastered versions.

Eh, that means jackshit. It takes little effort to port to xbox/ps4 in the first place. Even if the sale is abysmal, there still profits.Putting the game on retail doesn't mean the developer expected substantial sale.
I'm not sure about RE5, but I expect RE4 to sell a lot better than RE6 because it's RE4. It's a classic. But I still think the sales of them will be hurt if RE7 is exclusive. How they're going about the whole thing again, just doesn't make sense to me why you'd release 4-6 on both then make 7 exclusive. If it comes down to money, as I've stated before, I fear for Capcom's survival if they can't/won't fund their best-selling IP anymore because I'm wondering what in the fuck they will/can fund.
RE5 on PS360 didn't stop Capcom from releasing RE4, REmake, and RE0 on Wii. Just like Final Fantasy being away from Nintendo for twenty years now doesn't stop Square Enix from rereleasing the NES/SNES games on virtual console. Ports of old games have always been a low risk, easy way to make money, and companies don't particularly worry about throttling their sales potential as any sale is generally a bonus. Losing a handful of sales for RE4 on Xbone because of hurt fanboys would be negligible.
Just playing devil's advocate though, as I don't expect RE7 to be exclusive.

RE7 exclusive for PS4 will such a huge win for Sony, specially if they manage to make a true survival horror. I rather have it this way than nothing because Capcom can't fund the development.

It's supporting the marketing departments of the publishers. This is a basically a gaming news site, in my opinion rumours/hints should be posted (if it's not illegal), not witheld to make things more "exciting". Anybody who doesn't want to be spoiled shouldn't be here, simple as.

The insiders aren't beholden to anyone. Whatever they want to reveal (however much or little) is up to them. Reducing them to astrosurfers for not revealing everything they know is ridiculous.

People are assuming that's because it's exclusive, but it could mean exclusive content (the VR stuff), timed exclusivity, or even just that Sony snapped up the reveal.

I dont believe VR means any sort of exclusivity to a particular platform other than the VR version. Aren't there already multiplat games with PSVR exclusivity announced?
So... I dont really think if it's that it's a big deal, especially as with XB1 in it's current state, it can't do VR anyway and on PC fans would without a doubt mod in VR functionality if there is no official solution offered.

In my head I'm trying to work out how RE7 could be made. Firstly RE6 was hugely ambitious (I thought it was an awesome game for what it's worth). I would have to put at least a 60 million dollar budget on it.
So to make an RE7 it needs to be bigger right? That's how developers think these days anyway. So you have a game that needs to be big to live up to its legacy and if you're following in the footsteps of last 2 games you have to make another hugely ambitious campaign. So now it just comes down to money, Capcom aren't in great financial shape, Street Fighter 5 hasn't been setting the charts on fire....
So then you think about a company like Sony stepping in to help out. What's in it for them? They get another console exclusive on their belt but at what cost? How many millions would they need to throw down to tick all of the boxes above?
I'm a huge advocate for RE7, maybe more so than most but I've been scratching my head about this for awhile...
