Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

It should make an impact as long as it's no more than the current price of the Xbox One ($299) simply due to it being a new model; Some current Xbox One owners will upgrade. Some who want a 4K Blu ray player will buy it if it's that price too. This is also outside of the fact that Gears of War 4 will more than likely have a console bundle with a slim model.

So yeah, it should do well as long as it's not over $299.

I remain doubtful about price being at 299 with 2TB drive - usually they put in larger drive to add more value to more expensive package.

Obviously if they do $299 it will be a good price for the package.

Are people unimpressed with it BECAUSE it has a removable batterie? Or for entirely unrelated reasons that don't actually have any bearing to this argument.

They're unimpressed with it because its a unremarkable phone that also has bad battery life compared to its direct competitors, arguably due to their Magic Slot design that may force them to use a smaller battery. In most reviews the removable battery is literally just a footnote.

The point is that the removable battery is not really a selling point for the LG G5 because its not really a buying consideration for most people. People don't care about the removable battery at all, they care that the removable battery has worse than battery life than competitors like the Samsung Galaxy S7.

People really care if it meets their use cases and not whether or not its removable or not, which is the real problem with Sony's Dualshock 4. Even if you could use Eneloops with the Dualshock 4, it probably still wouldn't stop complaints about its atrocious battery life and people wanting to disable its LED and touchpad.

Isn't the current XB1 $299?

I'm tired and not fact checking, but off memory, these slim revisions tend to be priced the same or cheaper than existing units.

Then again they never got really upgrades before, did they?
And before someone asks: upgrade in a better drive and more functionality (4k).

You're removing a $50 component and replacing it with $70 component. That shouldn't make the price jump astronomically, especially when a 1TB model exists. MS can take a fun loss to sell a great product.

If the older model is getting a price cut soon, this will easily replace their existing model.

Other than hard drive size, I know that 2nd PS3 added HDMI-cec. Super minor addition. I want to say PSP had spec improvements in later models but handhelds are a different story.

The black version will look pretty sleek. I have to admit, in terms of software support and having certain basic hardware components, like a better Wi-Fi chip, Microsoft is hitting out of the park.

The thing is it needs to be cheap, the deals on Xbox here in the uk have been unreal, if this goes up in price then what's the point it won't do jack for them.

The psp added more internal NAND flash in the system starting with the 2000 model.

From wiki:

PSP-1000: 32 MB total, all of it used by the System Software.
PSP-2000/3000: 64 MB total, 32MB used for system, another 32mb used for UMD cache, available memory not changed for compatibility with 100x models.

Seems doubtful the X1S will be $299 just a couple weeks after the standard X1's price drop to $299. Guessing it will be $399 and maybe an X1S Elite for $499.

Isn´t it possible there are 2 versions ?

I also have a problem that they would only release a white version.

Maybe black box with 1 TB drive => 299 (= Standard)

White box with 2 TB drive => 349 (= Special)

(or something)

So it has an actual 4K drive? Or just streaming?

This should of been what the X1 looked like at launch. Might be my favorite console design ever.

Feel bad for all the "fans" of external power bricks though;-).

Feel like this will be $350 until they sell off there old stock then price will drop just in time for Xmas.

The price will be high initially because people just can't help themselves and Microsoft knows this. 299 for Christmas though.

Only because of the 4K Blu-ray player, but even then I doubt it given the Xbox One and PS4 were supposedly sitting on a firmware upgradeable 4K Blu-ray player as they were.

Supposedly, according to the ramblings of Jeff Rigby?

What year/month is it coming this time?

This should be $299 (not the 2TB model), a great price for a lot people replace the current model or buy for the first time a Xbox One.

But maybe will be $349 and $299 for holidays.

You could plug in the Xbox 360 controller and use it without batteries.
I think you're mixing up the fact that the Xbox One's controller switched to a wired transmission mode when plugged in whereas the Xbox 360 continued to use wireless even when plugged in.

Ahh yes you are right. It's been a while since I've used the 360 controller...I must be thinking back when trying to use it with a PC. (and no wireless dongle)

why on earth you would waste your money to replace your current system ? its the same damn box that plays the same xbox one games.

hell maybe this is louder, generate more heats due to its size. the one that is out right now has been proven reliable. why change ? specially a new one coming next year that will do much more. save your money man. it doesn't grow on a tree.

Also, i don't think this one has HDMI- In does it ?

Yeah, 2 TB has me a bit worried about a $299 price. It needs to happen though in my opinion for this model to do well (well, unless there's another slim SKU with a smaller hard drive).

The old Xbox One doesn't have 4K capabilities. Some people will prefer its smaller size too.

We all love tech here. We've all wasted money in some form for devices that get cheaper months/years later.

Also, i don't think this one has HDMI- In does it ?

Nothing has been stated about this. I could see Microsoft releasing an HDMI accessory that plugs into a USB port though.

+ 2TB drive. Finally (should have been in the launch units, 500GB is laughably inadequate).

+ Sleek design, internal power-brick (about time). Will fit in places the launch bone won't, which makes it a winner for me.

+ 4K. Haven't jumped onboard with a 4K TV yet, but its nice to have.

+ Price (assuming it starts at $349 or less this should be a winner).

- Not feeling the white (tho I know a lot of people like it, I prefer all my components to be black, maybe with silver or white trim lines).

- Have a bit of concern the smaller design may produce more heat and/or ambient fan noise. Despite the PS4s physical design looking much better than the launch Xbone, it sounds like a jet-engine at times and my Xbones are dead silent.

I'll probably wait until black units are available, reviews are out, and there's an elite version available (the extra speed from the SSHD hybrid drive + the elite controller is worth the extra expense in my book... So, hopefully they get an Elite Slim out the door soon).

Edit: Anyone know if this thing will have HEVC hardware decode as part of the media update? That could be a killer app for me which would necessitate an immediate purchase.

i'm not the greatest at photoshop but i made this image to try give a better idea of the difference in size between both models. you can see that both the black/white controllers have a transparent overlay and both controllers are about the same size.

I would seriously consider this one as a secondary XBONE slash 4K device for the livingroom

if I didn't know there was a Scorpio on the way

What year/month are those updates coming now?

Should be any time now. There was just recently a DLNA consortium meeting where they agreed on HDMI 2.0.1 which features a roll back option of HDCP 2.1 compliant stream between two endpoints using different standards, plus the recent OS update introduced basic libraries for access from the North Bridge via the WC buffers to secure System Memory.

Joking. I have no understanding what any of those words even mean.

PS3 was sold at a loss (very big loss). I can't imagine MS doing the same with XB1 slim.

4K Blu Ray players now aren't anywhere near as expensive as Blu Ray players were in 2006 so yeah -- definitely not.

Ekim said there were ones with smaller drives.

Yeah, I saw that. "Perfect" in my opinion would be 2 TB slim at $349, 1 TB slim at $299, and a $50 drop for original Xbox One models/SKUs.
