Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Cancelled my other cards and got the MSI as I couldn't wait a couple of weeks :/
Booked this week off work for E3 so at least I have more time to test these cards out

ive got a 10% ebay discount and currently think about buying a Gtx 1080.
The cheapest one seems to be the KFA2 1080, which would end up at around 600 Euros after the discount.

Any idea how that one does or if I should rather look at a different one? kinda lost here :)

Do you guys have a good recommendation for a PSU for my MSI GTX 1080 (6-pin and 8-pin)? I'd rather not use any adapters.

I was thinking the EVGA 650 GQ would have me covered but it is hard for me to tell (I just had lasik and still recovering).

EDIT: The pictures were hard for me to tell but I see it in the spec sheet now. Looks like the vga are all 6+2 so I should be good.

Short but somewhat insightful FTW update: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=29616718&postcount=1460

Stock in EU apparently going to their big partners first (which hopefully translates to OCUK in the UK and Caseking in Germany), while in US most goes to their own store due to demand.

EVGA says they accidentally released a shipment of FTW cards to Newegg, and they are shipping. So those lucky few will even get them before EVGA preorders from the 27th.

I ended up cancelling my FTW pre-order from MemoryExpress when NCIX processed my order for the SC ACX...

If the FTW ends up shipping first I'll be fucking pissed

MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X 8 GB

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1080_Gaming_X/1.html
Currently the MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X retails at $719, which just isn't right. NVIDIA trumpeted its MSRP of $599 all across the web and now we see cards that are even more expensive than the $699 Founders Edition. Still, even at that price no alternative exists to GTX 1080, the MSI Gaming X is still much better price/performance than the GTX 980 and 980 Ti, only GTX 1070 offers a much better deal - at lower total performance though. MSI's GTX 1080 Gaming X is so good, that I'd rather buy it than the 20 bucks cheaper reference design, which comes with a worse thermal solution, more noise, throttling and no idle-fan off.

719$ for a card that is not a TI nor a Titan, with a chip half the size of the 650$ 980ti.

Anybody heard anything from NCIX yet?

Nothing yet. I emailed them today about an ETA.

Tbh Im expecting them to get shipment by Friday at the earliest. Most likely they wont get shipment till the end of the month, especially because it seems like EvGA missed their shipment date of the SC today. It's not available on any US site.

The whole launch sucks so bad.

At this point I just wish I could go on a site and say "Ok, send me the first no-FE card you get... I don't care which one it is or how much it cost... Just send me a card!"

I had the FTW first pre-ordered on Memory Express. Then, since it looked like the FTW might be one of the last one to come out I decided to also pre-order the SC ACX on NCIX with the idea being to cancel the slower one once one shipped.... But then NCIX went straight to "Order Processed" and charged my card so I cancelled my pre-order at Memory Express (I don't want to end up with 2 cards by accident). But now NCIX is also shitting the bed.

What if they'd send you the GALAX blower card? :^)

At this point I'm just expecting my FTW early July, stopped monitoring sites and all since I doubt they'll go on pre-order on Amazon or anywhere else due to quantity and the rep statement yesterday.

Or just letting people pre-order the known models, so that there's a proper queue instead of hoping you catch a unicorn in stock for the split-second it's online.

yeah...right now it's just "Hey, we have 2 of this card...maybe 3 of these...1 of these...etc"

add to that the fact the different manufacturers never really give a straight answer on when they will be available

"Well I talked to so and so and they said it would be by this day"
"Well I spoke to another person that works there and they said this day"
"You're both wrong because I spoke to another person and they said this other day"

it just seems like right now unless you get lucky and time it right you only really have a couple chances a week to get a card before you have to do it all over again the next week

Anybody notice that it no longer says 6/13 for more Strix 1080s on NewEgg? I was hoping I'd be a little luckier today.
I'm assuming it's because 6/13 has come and they have no stock, rather than having gotten stock and selling out. I signed up for auto-notify and didn't even get a message to tell me I was already too late.

That's generally how NCIX operates. I remember having to wait ~3 months to get a second Titan X SC from them last year. Credit card was charged day one, as usual.

NCIX called me today. Told me that I'm 2nd in line for the SC and that they're still waiting on a shipment as they're yet to get stock. Supposedly their shipment is still on its way but she couldnt give me an ETA on when they'd get it.

There's actually a chance I could get this thing before the end of the week.

I'm wanting an FTW but I'm pretty sure I'll never see that in stock anywhere for a long time

You remember when you actually placed the order?

I still haven't heard anything from them yet.

Sitting in a room somewhere.

I know this is the 1080 thread, but I know many of us are on the fence between the 1070 and 1080, especially Canadians since the 1070 FE is priced so poorly in comparison to the USD.

Heads up to Canadians.

NCIX had the 1070 Gigabyte G1 Gaming listed for $570. If you go to the product page however, it's $550.

That's the best price we've seen here. Way more reasonable than the $650 MSI Gaming X.

I went to the store and am on the reservation list for this card.

Awesomesauce!

Makes me less bothered about not picking up FTW. Wonder how much of an OC I can push it. Would be nice to have the card soon.

FTW is a bit of a different story, at least in theory. It's a custom PCB so different than used in the ATX3 and SC cards.

ACX 3.0/SC use the same board, lighting, etc...just the SC has the factory OC

FTW has a Dual BIOS, RGB lighting, custom board, etc

There's no evidence yet of custom PCBs and dual PCI-E power connectors providing any benefit whatsoever for overclocking.

The cards are voltage starved more than anything right now.

Of course, that could change once we start seeing custom BIOSes with the voltage limits extended. Then we might see some real benefit to the FTW and other high end models.

I placed it on June 6.

Did you send them a message through their customer care site?

No I sent them a tweet, they replied asking for my order number which I sent but then never got an answer. I'll shoot them an email.

Glad to hear about June 6th, I did it on that date too.

Sadly, the G1 Gaming is an inch too long to fit in my case, so I will keep my preorder on the MSI Gaming X. Much better priced than the MSI though.

That's rough man. The cheapest 1070 I can find here (Iceland) costs 635 dollars and that's the founder's edition. The prices here are in fact so terrible that I decided to order a 1080 (iChill Air Boss X3) from abroad (www.overclockers.co.uk) and just have it sent to me instead. It'll end up as 936 dollars after paying for shipping and tax which is a lot of course but it beats paying 1190 dollars for a similar card from a local store. Just one week until I get my hands on my card :) Oh and I was totally interested in the 1070 but since I had money lying around + the earlier availability, I couldn't resist buying the 1080 (nvidia is counting on impatient customers like me).

Hmm actually I just noticed that I placed the order on June 4th but it went to the "Processed" state on the 6th so I guess I was before you?

Either I'm #1 in the queue or they are bullshiting us lol...

Still haven't heard back from them.

It provides some benefit in the form of less throttling in power hungry titles. But yeah its pretty minor unfortunately
