Specs aren't everything. It's Specs + Price + Availability that matters. For example a $600 console really would not be competing with a traditional console. It'd be competing with PCs.

more than that - there are 40m PS4 owners and many of those will not suddenly ditch the PS4 that they have their friends and digital libraries on for the last three years.

There is an element of 'what can Sony get away with if they are behind in specs' for a few years, because people are entrenched in Sony's ecosystem, and an expectation that Sony will do a Neo2 which leapfrogs Scorpio too.

Basically they'll both leapfrog each other every few years, and there isn't really a reason to switch to the other side and those reasons diminish over time as your investment in your current platform grows.

So...
Microsoft pretty much already called quit on this Gen while announcing Next Gen, and admitting of still milking this Gen.
Ok..

I'm in,
Next Year when the Scorpio is available. Sounds like a beast.

Someone who wants to play the games between now and 18 months from now...

How is this a real question?

Ok still dont change the fact that if someone has a fat one they are not gonna run out and buy an s when the new ones right around the corner....still losing sales or someone who wants to play xbox games but hears a new better more powerful console is on its way thats gonna enhance them said games. They arent likely to shell out 300 when they can just wait...

MS is effectively conceding this generation to Sony. Not unlike MS to just abandon a product and move on to the next thing. Moreover, with Project Scorpio they aren't abandoning Xbox One/Xbox One S, but they are heavily betting on their console being the most powerful in the market come 2017.

I wonder if game historians will consider PS Neo/Project Scorpio to be a new generation. I certainly would. MS has is in "game on" mode.

They are so gonna let that Xbox One compatibility with Scorpio games slide.

Not buying that for a second.

Cool that Scorpio will be fully backwards compatible though!

Side note: 6TF will not be all that impressive come Holiday 2017.

Didn't we just spend the first few years of this gen bemoaning projects being developed across gens, and how developing a project to work on lesser systems tended to discourage from really pushing the new systems' capabilities?

Now we got Cross-Gen Ports: The Console and y'all happy? What?

Devs I’ve talked to are unhappy about PS4.5 because it’s happening so fast, Sony demanding compatibility ASAP.

interesting

this all buy confirms specs on neo are a lock....

The upgrade stuff is cool but I already have a PC. If I want the power I can get it there. And get more of it.

Weird place for consoles now.

I think Microsoft revealed their hand too early. All Sony has to do is up clock their Polaris apu in neo and it'll be an even race again.

Then MS can change things accordingly as well. This scorpio thing isn't coming out until holiday 2017

Unless Sony is releasing the Neo in holiday 2017 they have to have a pretty nailed down architecture for the Neo.

Is this a 6 pin ATX connector?

So incremental updates is the new thing, right? So does that mean I'd have to pay £400-500 every two or three years just to keep up? Not my idea of incremental. Don't like it or I'm missing something. Is the hardware itself upgradeable like a PC? In that case, I wouldn't mind. But no way I'd do the first option, I'd prefer to bow out of gaming altogether if that happened.

So the ps4 neo is a full year ahead of the new xbox? Seems like a poorly planned move on Microsoft's front.

Especially with the lead Sony have currently.

Why? As long as the PS4K isn't allowed to have exclusives, Nintendo shouldn't have to worry. The PS4 is gonna hold the PS4K back, which will hold Scorpio multiplats back.

The NX just has more console hardware competition now. They need to stand out all the more.

Oculus Rift 2 with packed in Touch for Project Scorpio please. We need a larger market than HTC Vive for our roomscale games :P.

Can someone explain how all the Xbox consoles will play the same games? They kept saying this but it's not clear what it means.

  1. Is MS going to mandate that all Xbox games release for both One and Scorpio?
  2. Will the Scorpio games be identical except using higher res assets?
  3. Will devs have to build and test two different versions of each game?
  4. Will the two versions share the same achievements?

It'll be similar to how a PC scales games, only instead of targeting many different setups, developers will only have to worry about a few (Xbox One, One S, Scorpio)

They framed this update perfectly.

Really good job to the folks on the Xbox team.

Iterative console releases are the future so it's good to see them having developers making the case for why this is exciting.

I gues Sony can completely rewrite their presentation now to present Neo to make sure it has better specs. Maybe they will film some new videos to counter everything and add this in tonight as well.

Right guys? RIGHT!?!

That system is a monster though, but at what cost?

Remember when the Consoles were supposed to last 10 years. Yeah I remember that.

Seeing a lot of your move Sony posts, funny how that rhetoric of graphics and frames not mattering but fun from the beginning of this gen disappearing lol
