Glad I waited for Scorpio to be confirmed and DAMN this sounds like a complete beast! Don't have an XB1 right now, but I can wait until 2017.

But will Scorpio get Japanese game support on par with PlayStation and will they still bomba? That is the question, Phil.

Lot of crow for those who didn't think MS would talk about Scorpio at all, sabotage sales etc, and you're crazy to think that they would mention it. Then to those who thought it might be a brief sentence on it only. Then to those who thought no fucking way they'd mention specs at a press conference, no way would they talk tflops. Not only do they do all that, mention 6tflops three times and more, they mention memory bandwidth to boot lol.

No crow really. Those people thought that because they consider it is an easy way to crater purchases for 18 months.

Also, from the various threads on these chips, wouldn't be surprised if they are rounding those teraflops up (like 5.-). It seems pretty variable based on the final clockspeeds.

It does seem like this is exactly what Neo is except coming later and with more power. Not a new gen.

Now I wonder why House came out said no Neo at E3. Back to the drawing board/cold feet?
Couldn't just not be ready and instead focus on the current gen.

An early video with people talking about specs isn't really something exciting.

I don't think the mainstream will care. They were careful to name it "Project Scorpio" and not "Xbox Scorpio," so there's a decent chance the average consumer won't even know about the Scorpio this year.

In social media times, that's just not how it works anymore. I bet there are already some news with titles like "Next Xbox generation launching 2017, 4 times faster than Xbox One".

I bet $599.

kek!

I wouldn't be surprised in the coming days and weeks we learn that they don't even have a prototype and the specs are what Microsoft is targeting for and may change before launch. Honestly it is incredible dangerous move on Microsofts part. They basically showed their hand and allowing Sony to decide which direction to go.

If they reneg on any of the specs there will be a shitstorm, especially if Sony somehow matches it.

Now Sony needs to figure out the right balance between an earlier launch and increased power. Holiday 2016 might not give them much time to bump the specs much, but I think if they can reach 5TF and still hit this year it'll be a win for them.

No. The current xbone and ps4 use 8 core cpus.

That's not an answer. PS4/Xbox One both use an 8-core AMD Jaguar CPU.

PS4 Neo is rumored to use the same CPU, just clocked faster.

Phil Spencer said Scorpio would have 8 CPU cores. Why would he say that if everyone already knows Xbox One has 8 cores? To me it implies a NEW CPU that's 8-cores, not the same old and weak Jaguar.

To the best of my recollection, consoles are always debuted in this time frame for many reason. 18 months is not a long time at all - next E3 will be Neo/Scorpio. Plus if they'd didnt announce now you'd have some really pissed off people who buy the S without knowing.

Oh okay good. I'm okay with this. They are pretty much telling people they are done with Xbox One. They've moved on.

Yes is what I have been saying thus far. MS has conceded this gen to Sony. This not unlike MS to do. They move on right away when something doesn't work. Anyone remember the Microsoft Kin? They dropped that shit like it was hot.

MS will be all in with Scorpio and I bet that Oculus partnership rumor will materialize before the console ships in 2017.

So Scorpio won't have exclusive games? I guess that answers the question of how this is doing 4K but I think they need to leave XB1 behind.

Xbox One S will be there for the minecraft, ID Xbox gamers and the millions of gamers who don't give a shit about needing the highest specs... at a great price point that will no doubt be cheaper when Project Scorpio release. PS will be there for the rest of us who want seamless upgrade to Next Gen...

Can not wait to 2017 just in time for Forza 7

I said that I was most excited for MS Messaging about Scorpio (if they actually showed it) than the specs.

I really did think they nailed the messaging. Phil did a nice job explaining that they aren't abandoning previous Xboxs etc. But seeing it just 90 minutes after they revealed the Xbox One S was pretty weird. I didn't think they would who Scorpio after they revealed the Xbox One S. It will be very interesting to see how sales of the Xbox One and Xbox One S are effected, or not, going forward.

Wish the xbone launched with gaming in mind first. I like they're trying to get back to their roots and that BC is a top priority (wake up Sony) but I can't help but think a pc is still a better choice than Scorpio

Scorpio is going to be cheaper than a PC

That video feels an awful lot like February meeting and Sonys wooing developers theme.

Slim looks like a ps4, all of sudden PSVR is now important to Xbox and part of the vision.

Feels very "me too" MS, will have to impress more than that. No one is left behind is good PR, but im not eager to go and buy anything Xbox related besides a custom controller for the next 12-15 months. I was in Sony ecosystem before this, but I was expecting to be nudged a little lol...

I'm not sure what this reveal accomplished for them.

It's going to play out negatively especially since the xbox brand has taken such a beating. It will hurt sales of current Xbox one S and Xbox One because other than someone with a current interest in xbox. they will wait for the Scorpio.

Yes it probably will have a negative effect in the immediate future, but what about the long term? Would it have been more damaging to not announce it and let PS4 gain an even greater lead with a solo Neo reveal?

On one corner you'd have the Neo and on the other you'd still have the underpowered Bone. The chasm between the two would grow even more. With the announcement, even after the Neo reveal happens, Xbox fans can still say "Our is coming too." And announcing it first also helps their public perception. They're playing catch up while trying not to look like they're playing catchup. It's a corporate power play.

I think this early announcement is basically cutting off the foot to save the leg, if you know what I mean. And since this game of chicken is coming to a close, I expect a Neo announcement soon as well.

Scorpio will be like the Xbox 360. Ideally launch before the PS4.5. Can play current and next-gen games. MSFT is literally setting the tone for the next generation. MSFT already has the infrastructure. Sony will most likely have to play catch up.

If the PS4k is launching this year (and everything is indicating that it will), then that's going to shoot the 360 comparison.

Honestly, the big thing with the transition to incremental platforms is that (assuming backwards compatibility holds up) people are going to be invested in ecosystems. Previously, everyone effectively lost access to old games every generation on their new boxes. Going forward, hopefully that will be a thing of the past. The big problem Microsoft faces is convincing people to abandon their PS4 game collections to cross the isle, and I suspect that's going to be a harder ask than anyone is expecting. Likewise, Sony will probably have trouble convincing people to abandon their Xbox collections. I don't see this as a knockout punch, more like cementing the current status quo.

I had my fingers crossed but holy shit... They actually did it. Beast of a console. And Phil had the balls to actually say it'll be the most powerful console when it releases. Boom indeed.

Announcing a new Xbox One, and 90 minutes later killing it by announcing a new console in 2017, bravo!

It's gonna take a long ass time for some of you to start thinking differently about how consoles work, ain't it?

Generations are over for Microsoft. It doesn't matter if Xbox One in particular slows down if they've got a whole swath of people engaged in their overarching ecosystem through multiple devices.

I gues Sony can completely rewrite their presentation now to present Neo to make sure it has better specs. Maybe they will film some new videos to counter everything and add this in tonight as well.

Right guys? RIGHT!?!

Not sure if sarcastic or desperate. Either way, this is completely unrealistic.

Hopefully the Scorpio version of CoD (for example) can play with people on the Xbone version of CoD. This gen sucked when I had to buy multiple copies of Ghosts to play with friends and to play solo in best quality

Like, what would have been lost if they announced Scorpio at next years E3 or a separate event instead of this year? I just don't get it.

If I'm not mistaken, I think I've read about rumours that PS4 NEO is going to be released next year, so maybe they wanted gamers to know about Scorpio before gamers made a decision wether to go NEO or just wait for a more powerful console.

Die size seems quite small... I guess eSRAM is gone for good? Do they emulate DDR3 (68GB/s) + eSRAM (~200GB/s) in the unified (GDDR5X?) pool @ 320GB/s?

Any mention of Zen CPU? Console price?

not sure where to even put this but

Would sony go for 8tf? hmmmm, guess it depends on time frame of release but if I had to guess they will release another one 2 years later anyways..

It's a stupid move, and Sony seem to be doing the same.

All it does is devalue the console. Publishers and developers will make games primarily for the PS4 and Xbox One regardless, because of their install base. All they're doing is reducing the appeal of powerful new hardware, which will be anchored down by the restrictions of weaker hardware.

Do you get screwed by PC games having different video settings? Likely the games will detect the console and change the settings accordingly. I didn't think this was a new concept?
