Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

Is there a downside to an external power brick? Wouldn't that create less heat inside and make it smaller as well?

Thread title is a letdown, thoguht it was 2TB for 300$, but 350 for 1TB isn't terrible. Might have to get this later on. At least it comes with a controller

Four hundo? Seems like a lot. I think I'll try to take advantage of the play anywhere thing and play those exclusive games on the PC I need to build. I'd rather drop that money into a graphics card. I do need to get some sort of media player for my TV though to replace the now ancient 360. Maybe this can fit the bill.

Don't buy the 2TB model and it isn't $400

It's so weird...I want the console itself but there's little-to-nothing on the Xbox One that I actually want to play.

Maybe I should just dig my Xbox 360 out of the closet to try to satiate myself.

You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.

WOW! The successor to the 360 that should have been here from the start. Smaller with an internal PS and no Kinect! Very tempting.

Explain to me why this matters? 95% of people have this on a shelf with the power brick hiding behind something near the plug.

My entertainment center sticks out as much as surge protectors width; No room means my power brick sits awkwardly hidden beside my xbox. It's not very noticeable but still a minor annoyance. Any extra space is welcome, seems pretty obvious the benefits to me. A lot of us here prefer clean setups so the less cables and shelf space used the better.

Strongly urge you to seek out Neogaf or Kotakus Best Xbox One games, or even a Yotube search, before saying that because PS4 and X1 have some remarkable games to play. My personal X1 collection of must-own games is a few dozen strong, not including digital such as Ori and the Blind Forest.

So I am confused. I get this has 4K for movies/tv, but is the actual hardware any better than a normal xbone?

They were saying HDR for Horizon 2 on this thing, so surely it has some improvements..?

Output aside I don't think so or they'd have mentioned it outright.

They have it for preorder on Amazon, but only the $399 one. Unless I cannot find it.

When are they going to put up the $299 one? It is a clever clever move, however, to capitalize on the hype and get people to buy the more expensive one.

Weird. I wonder why they were talking about the HDR functionality of it during the Horizon 3 demo if that wasn't the case.

HDR is part of the new HDMI specs for 4k content. The Xbox One S has the new HDMI specs, so it can do it. The standard Xbox one does not, so it cannot.

Thats really it.

£249 for a UHD Blu Ray player, not bad considering the Wii U is still £220+. Think I'll buy the S as a second console with my PS4/Neo.

I'm not doubting that the Xbox One is full of great games, but there's very few that I'm personally interested in.

Outputting HDR is not trivial and requires new HDMI hardware. But it can be done at any resolution, including the current 1080p standard. So the new HDMI chip might allow up to 4k/HDR but it can also show Horizon 3 in 1080p/HDR. The color space and the resolution can vary independently.

It's a 'thing' for some gamers for some it's about not having "wires showing".

I'm holding out on this until I know it runs quietly. I liked having the brick as it meant the OG X1 made no noises.

I still can't get over that the Xbox One S isn't available now.

Or that Microsoft announced its replacement is coming 18 months from now.

This is not how you do things. Announce the Xbox One S the day it is available, then keep your mouth shut about new products that are still 18 months away.
