Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

Any details on the updated controller that has bluetooth?

I'd love to be able to use an XB1 controller on my PC without a dongle or use it on my iPad or Android phone, but something tells me all the bluetooth is going to be is for bluetooth headsets.

Any confirmation either way?

From the official site:

So UHD BD Drive.

I still can't get over that the Xbox One S isn't available now.

Or that Microsoft announced its replacement is coming 18 months from now.

This is not how you do things. Announce the Xbox One S the day it is available, then keep your mouth shut about new products that are still 18 months away.
When is it available?

This will all happen yes. Also streaming Xbox to iOS/Android. Don't know if you can control native iOS apps with it. Wouldn't be surprised tho if you can. Also support for Win7, Win8.1

My entertainment center sticks out as much as surge protectors width; No room means my power brick sits awkwardly hidden beside my xbox. It's not very noticeable but still a minor annoyance. Any extra space is welcome, seems pretty obvious the benefits to me. A lot of us here prefer clean setups so the less cables and shelf space used the better.

OK but is that tiny annoyance worth buying a new box?

Biggest thing for me is an IR blaster built in. which allows me to use it in a closet without a Kinect.

Why would they do that? Then you'd have people complain that Microsoft announced an upgraded console AFTER people went out and purchased the slim. They're in a lose/lose situation so they had to do what they thought was right. I'm happy they announced both new consoles today. You know what you're getting and if you wanna wait, then just fucking wait for the Scorpio!

So Seamus Blackley just said after the show on the IGN stream the One-S has slightly different specs.

Is it possible they ditched DDR3/ESRAM and switched to GDDR5 given I assume Scorpio will use GDDR5x and remain compatible with Xbox One?

Probably a silly suggestion but thought I'd ask anyway!

Because of this. It's real.

I agree that the announcement makes it easier for potential customers to make a decision, but it might not be the decision that Microsoft is looking for.

I don't have a 4K TV, so I kind of feel like I'd be OK to pass on this model and also Scorpio.

PSVR intrigues me, so I may opt for the PS4 Neo or whatever its called.

Hopefully they are sensible enough to let this one output audio via bitstream, would be a bit ridiculous to have a UHD player that can't do Dolby Atmos, something even the PS3 can do. My purchasing decision depends on this, it's stupid that the current XB1 only outputs lossless via PCM.

Fantastic! Had no idea they'd be willing to go that far with it, but I suppose it makes sense since they probably want everyone who plays Minecraft to be able to buy and use an XB1 controller, haha.

I actually bought a used Kinect for cheap so I could use voice commands and use it to manage my cable box via remote. The IR blaster on the front of the S solves the second part, but I do still like saying Xbox On and turning on 80% of my TV setup.

I wish they would release a cheap microphone just for voice commands, but what can you do?

I may jump in at $349 for the bigger hard drive, but that depends how much I can sell my white Xbox One for.

It's out in 2 months, why would you not announce that at E3 with a huge audience watching?

Preorders are online practically everywhere as of now

You can pre-order the $399 version and get in in August? Great.

So, what do you think Xbox One sales for the months of June and July are going to look like? Take a guess.

wait so it upscales to 4k? so it renders sub 1080p to 4k .... whats the point of this console again?

...It also does native 4K. It's saying things that don't natively display in 4k like videos or games will upscale.

If the media is native 4k, it plays in native 4k. Not that complicated.

MS is so bad with names, lol. I bet alot of people are gonna read/hear this as "Xbox Ones" or "Xbox One Ass".
