Ok yes ill wait 4 years to look foolish lol .. Whilst i already have plenty of awesome 360 and xbox one games to play along with more pc games than ever before. Other than uncharted im struggling to see anything im missing out on .. Mind u i have forza halo recore gears of war scalebound qunatum break ... Oh wait only im not alowed to comment on console wars thats right lol
.. My bad :)

It looks like you've adopted a "why wait" policy.

HAHA! Yeah, thats not happening. Lead platform will be PS4 for quite awhile. Largest install base, and its where almost all 3rd party is planning on making their returns for the next 2 years, minimum.

Scorpio will only ever gain a larger priority in development if it can build up an install base that justifies that.

If its coming out on Scorpio then that would be the lead platform.

Microsoft played their card really well here, the Xbox One S takes over as main sku, also becomes a very accessible 4k video player.

Scorpio starts to blur the lines between PC and Console, for those not wanting a full PC overhaul this is a great choice, Microsoft also has the ecosystem to push cross buy etc.

I can see this putting some stress on Sony, with the performance jump of Scorpio this might make the PS5 be the next iteration instead of Neo.

Next year will be interesting seeing where this all leads to tbh.

No I didn't. I've been busy. But I've heard 1080/60 thrown around for a lot of games and it ended up being a lie.

I'm not hating here. I'm just curious. From what I've seen in PC benchmarks it requires some pretty beefy hardware. Granted this thing is 6tfs but normally ya know...consoles don't have the equivalent of the top end pc gpus in them these days

the announcement vid is only 3-4 minutes watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WnLvk3wIIk

it has game devs talking about how they feel about specs and what can be accomplished

This is a new gen and people need to realise new gen laws work here. The lead console will be the new one.

This gen is dead.

And you'll see those cards won't match the PS4 in newer games, and were released after the PS4 release.

So, you need to wait PC videocards in 2018 to expect that performance for an affordable price.

If you think you can buy a 480 now and match the Scorpio throughout the Scorpio own lifetime, because the specs look about the same, I say you are delusional.

Maybe in the first year they will be close, but wait enough and developers will learn to optimize for the Scorpio, whereas on PC you won't even find updated drivers for the current 480. Even less OPTIMIZATION.

buddy buddy buddy...just no.

So we'll have to wait until next E3 to find out the price?

It being all AMD, and if its 480 based, i dont see it being more than 499 specially coming out more than a year from now, hell the 480 being 199, you could maybe see it cheaper.

4K/30, yes.
Aren't Gears and Halo meant to be 60fps games? Halo is im sure, not sure if it was just the gears remake that was 60fps.

So I can't forsee a game aiming for 1080/60 on xbox one and 4k/30 on scorpio. Not if they have cross platform play too which is pretty much a given I think.

So this is what im wondering. How many games will be hitting 4k etc i cant imagine it beig as common as 1080p is for ps4 games (e.g. 99%)

Fair play to them if they pull it off though. I looked up 4ktvs today and they're a quarter of the price they used to be lol so maybe I'd be pushed to make the jump.

I hope they go back to the drawing board and come up with something similar power wise. Would be a smart move considering Sonys approach is having incremental updates to the ps4.

I didn't even know that's what these fuckers are doing. Console PC'ing it up. It was bound to happen. Shit moves too fast now.

I think it's also worth keeping in mind that 1080p/60fps on Scorpio will be a lot better than 1080/60fps on vanilla Xbox One or PS4. High visual fidelity goes a long way, which is why I'm not too fussed about the whole 4K thing as long as the horsepower is there for the graphics to truly shine.

Dude....

And both were not pushing much. I don't think a 4K/60fps on Scorpio version would be impossible.

Wait...

Not pushing much?

24 cars on track, night racing/weather, dynamic rain droplets, physics based puddles, particle effects on tracks, high poly cars, 360 fps physics engine, sub-surface scattering, physics based materials, 1080p and 60 fps locked.

Turn 10 are wizards and Forza Motorsport pushes a LOT for Xbox One.

Source?

[...]and were released after the PS4 release.

Not true. They were released late 2013 to early 2014, and were actually just rebrands of the HD 7000 series cards released in 2012-2013.

Buying a RX 480 when it releases later this month will almost get you Scorpio performance. And in late 2017 there will be better options of course.

Higher textures, more particle effects, better lighting, higher tessellation factors

1080p on Scorpio/Neo will have to look better or else there is no point.

Nice aggressive move to detail specs 18 months out from launch. Microsoft conceit that Xbox One was mismanaged.
Curious that they didn't outright say Oculus is aiding with VR. They doing it fully in-house? (which I think would be the smarter long-term move)

Oh jesus. The comments about Forza at 4K 60fps are borderline insane. Not in a million years. What exactly are you guys expecting from Scorpio? 4K 30fps maybe. Most titles will be 1080p 60fps with updated graphical features, AI etc.

Thanks.

Part of me wants to be cynical. Afterall this is the company that tried to persuade us games upscaled to 1080p counts as 1080p.

But it seems like they're pushing for vr, and to do that for years they're really gonna need some horsepower behind it.

Will be interesting to see how the market reacts to this.

4K/60, yes.

4.6x the raw power, anything capable of 1080p 60 fps on Xbox One should be capable of 2160p 60 fps on Scorpio.

Not true. The Scorpio will be in Titan X territory, not 1080 territory. And the Titan X is a dGPU instead of integrated. A Titan X (single) struggles to stay above 30-40 @4K on recent titles.

If a game is 720p on Xbox One. Will Scorpio render the same game at 1080p?

I'm not a console console (I live and die by my PC), but I'm really happy for Xbox gamers. It seems that the Spencer era is bringing good things to both Xbox and PC, so if this new platform means more and better synergies between the two, I'm all for it.

Not true based on what?

4.6x the raw power.

Forza Motorsport 7 without doubt with be 2160p at 60 fps locked on Scorpio.

You're comparing a card running games not directly optimized for it with a game built for the hardware and already runs 1080p 60 fps locked on current hardware.

Nah, I believe Phil when he said that he had been talking to developers about what they wanted to see in scorpio. I don't think they would have told them they wanted something so powerful if they where just going to make it take the backseat.

But perhaps 3rd party games that also have a PC release will scale just scale like the PC version?

ITT people underestimate the power needed to achieve 4K @60fps.

Really guys, take your 1080p60 and be happy with it, that's what Scorpio will be able to pull off for a >$500 box.

Exactly. I expect a few titles to hit 4K 30fps at least bit I'd expect most to be 1080p.

The Xbox One Slim is $299. I think that Microsoft can price this thing at anything because it's really only for hardcore gamers. It's sort of like the Xbox Elite controller. My prediction is $599.
Exactly. That price point clearly doesn't work.

It's gonna be 499 at the most.

There's nothing in this hardware that suggests it'll need be more than $400 at retail for MS to make money off it in 2017, barring bundles.

Scorpio is designed to deliver 2K at 90fps for VR. That's the power envelope we are talking about here.

It should be relatively straightforward to knock up an MS brand HMD in 18 months, taking the best from the other three headsets to produce something cost effective. Plus they have their Hololens team to help for comfort/fit etc
